CHAPTER 77
CHAPTER SEVENTY-SEVEN
First thing I was acutely of when I came to was my body being in dire pain, my mind blank for a few minutes. A groan left my lips, my vision hazy and the images in my brain of what had happened prior to my fainting were all jumbled up and blurry. I glanced around in a frenzy; partially dark walls met my eyes just as my back registered the coldness of the cemented floor seeping underneath it.
My throat went dry, my mind shifting to a state of internal panic when I noticed I was chained, both in the hands and the legs with cop cuffs. The muscles around my stomach knotted as I struggled against the rather tight cuffs. How had I gotten myself in this mess? Right. I let Collins distract me, growing prey to my own feelings and now I was paying the price in the hands of the werewolves. This had to be another of Carson’s attempts to take me down except this time it felt like I had no way out. All my life I had spent with my head plastered on a computer screen, typing my life away and never once did it occur to me that I needed to hone some escape skills. Not only couldn’t I move but I lacked the skills to actually uncuff myself. In the movies, they made it look it so easy but now all I could feel was the coldness of the tight metal cuffs around my wrists and ankles.
“Don’t try. You’ll only make it harder on yourself and probably end up with harsh cuff marks on your body. I’d hate to have to explain why a beautiful woman who happened to be acquitted with Collins happens to have cuff marks on her wrists and ankles,” a voice said, coming into the room and I quickly pinned it to the face of the guy who had kidnapped me. Earlier before me losing unconsciousness I had gotten quite a good glimpse of him and he had somehow made it sound like he knew me.
“Let me guess, its Carson making you do this. That jerk wasn’t just going quit, now, was he?” I said, groaning under the strain of the cuffs. Fuck! I hated Carson and how he’d turned the world I’d known upside down. Now I was barely floating in this unknown world, wondering if I would survive long enough to watch him fall at my feet begging for mercy.
“Carson?” he scoffed, coming closer as the lights in the room flickered on. It took me some time to adjust before I finally saw him.
Despite looking younger than me, he did exude a certain sense of authority and also happened to possess a broad build on a fine-looking face. He looked like the straight out of the novel jock stereotyped guy in every high school movie; ripped, tall, athlete-looking type and definitely every good-looking. Was being good-looking a must have character trait for being a werewolf?
“Why else would you kidnap me?” I questioned. It was pretty obvious he was working with Carson. The lengths that old man would go sickened me. He was the one who slaughtered my family, robbing me a normal childhood and an enjoyable life with best friend.
“Why do you think I went to the trouble of kidnapping a fucking mortal? To use you as leverage of course,” he dragged a chair, sitting down as he smirked,” Collins will do anything to have you back and that includes stopping his maniac of father,”
I had certainly not accepted that. He kidnapped me as leverage to strop Carson? Very much interesting.
“And who are you again?” I questioned, this time my interest spiked. It seemed like there was something interesting going on in the werewolf world that I was yet to know about.
“Alexander, the Alpha of Creek Moon pack. I was that huge dog from the kidnapping of the unfortunately dead granddaughter of Mrs. Heathers, remember?” He replied casually. So, this is how he looked beneath that brown wolf fur?
“Oh,” I muttered before quickly adding,” What make you certain that kidnapping me is guaranteed to make Collins do whatever you want? He and I never shared anything intimately deep,” I tested the waters.
His smirk deepened,” Oh, I know Collins and he is whipped for you. That kidnapping and how he instantly changed his mind when you showed up told me enough about the two of you. So now that I got you in my custody, its either he complies or I get to disfigure you pretty face,”
His tone was subtle yet icy at the same time. For an Alpha that young he was quite intimidating but I was going to offer him something he won’t resist. Maybe I had a chance to sue the wolves against Carson White. This would be the betrayal he never saw coming and the twist I needed.
“Instead of disfiguring my face how about I make you a deal?” I asked, looking at him with an attempted serious expression even though I was really straining.
“You know for someone who lying on her back, tied up, you sure do have quite the huge balls,” he leaned back on his seat,” Fine. Lay out what you got and I’ll see if I can bite,”
“I know you’ve heard the rumors about my feud with Carson White,” I started, panting a bit heavily but mostly from trying to see his face.
“Yeah, you are supposed to be some weapon. There are rumors that you apparently had some dark magic but I do know for sure the cops are after you for torching down your house, costing your brothers life,” he pointed out ever so subtly.
“The latter part is a lie and the part of me possessing dark magic is a lie too. Sure, magic turned me into something lethal but at this point I doubt I’m your biggest problem. It’s the assassin, yeah?” I questioned.
“Why? You know him or her?” He questioned.
“Maybe yes, maybe no but I can sure help you save your pack but only if you can convince the rest of the werewolves to join me in this war against Carson White,” I said.
“Look, gorgeous. Me more than anyone revolts the very idea of the existence of the Blood Moon pack but I would never join hands with the enemy to bring an end to an entire pack of wolves,” All this while, his expression had remained subtle and hence not easy to decipher. I couldn’t tell what he was thinking and whether he was taking the bait or not. Unlike Collins, he knew how to keep his reactions on check and that had to be his strong suit.
“Fine. Then the assassin will keep on attacking. Your choice,” I said, letting my head fall back against the floor a little bit too hard. I still didn’t understand the extent of my powers. All I knew is that the moment my twin brother was in my sights, our powers would unite and one united scream would end the world of the werewolves and the witches who practiced dark magic. Just one scream and it would all come to an end.
“If let’s say, I was to take your word for it, what is the guarantee that the assassination would top?”
“A hundred percent if you make the other packs follow suit,” I said.
COLLIN’S POV
She walked right past me and still I stood rooted where she’d left me. She knew she was my mate and yet she chose to go silent on it. I had seen it in her eyes; the glint she tried to hide. Maybe I finally understood it all. She didn’t hate me at all. As a matter of fact, it was quite the opposite. She cared about me more than she cared to admit. I had seen it written in the depth of her pupils right before I’d kissed her. She wanted me; she cared about me; she had feelings for me but she knew the moment she accepted what she felt for me, then she’d have to forget everything about her revenge against my father. She was at crossroads, knowing that if eh ever gave into the pressure of her feelings than her family’s massacre would go on unrequited.
I hit the wall with my closed up fist, the pain of the impact shooting up my body making me cuss under my breath. My phone rung, a new number showing up on my screen. Picking it up, the last thing I expected was Sasha’s angry voice blaring through the speakers of my phone.
“What did you do to here?” she snapped, making make me inch my ears away from my phone.
“What are you talking about?” I questioned.
“You took here, didn’t you? What are you planning to do with her? Kill her just because you can face her in battle in a fair field? Or are you planning to torture her just because you can’t have her?” she shouted over the phone bitterly.
“Calm the fuck down Sasha! What the hell are you talking about? Did something happened to Nadia?” I asked feeling my heart speed up with the anticipation of the doom about to be let down.
