CHAPTER FORTY ONE

I pushed away the strand of hair sticking on her face but she barely glanced at me. Her gaze remained glued to the flower vase on her nightstand but one could easily tell that it very distant. There were no tears in her eyes but just a blank expression. I could feel the rage and frustration reverberating from within her and that made my wolf agitated. If I could, I would suck the negative emotions off her. A sigh slipped of my lips. There was no way I was ever going to live her unprotected. I switched on my phone and immediately a string of missed calls and messages streamed in. They were mainly from Danny and Ethan and surprisingly enough one from Father. Why would father call me? I pushed that to the back of my mind, choosing instead to call Ethan first and he answered on the first ring.

“Where the fuck have you been?” he snapped. Impatience was clearly a wolf thing and at this point I could not judge him for it.

“Calm down Ethan. What happened?” I questioned, gripping on the strand of hair that were feeling pretty messy on my head.

“What happened? Are you fucking kidding me right now? We are supposed to chase any single lead we get on who is the assassin behind all this together as a pack and instead you’ve been gone a whole fucking day with your phone switched off. You are Alpha or are you forgetting that?”

I pace about lightly, on hand resting on the arch of my waist,” I will never forget that I’m the fucking Alpha Ethan and don’t you forget it either,” I seethed, blew out a deep breath,” Look, I may have just found the man behind the assassinations. Could you do me a favor and bring along five of the best sentinels to the ghost house as fast as possible?”

“Why? Did you get the assassin?”

“Just bring the fucking sentinels Ethan, “I grunted in frustration as I cut off the call.

My finger lingered over father’s name on the screen, wondering if I should call him back or not. It had been long since we talked and partly I knew it was my fault. I was stupidly head over heels in love with Laila that my family had not mattered to me then.

“You should go. Your pack needs you,” Nadia’s soft voice filtered through my moment of indecision, pulling my attention towards her.

“I can’t leave you unprotected especially when there is a hybrid running freely around town,” I meant every single word I just said. I would be damned if anything were to happen to her. It was insane to think just how it was possible to care so deeply about somebody you barely know.

“I’ll be fine. I have Sasha here with me and do not forget Mrs. Heathers lives right next door,”

“No offense meant to you best friend, but she is the type to run away at the slightest scare. Like you said, Mrs. Heathers lives next door. Do you really think if something were to happen to you she’d be here on time to save you? Besides, I doubt that she is any match to that Hybrid. I cannot just leave you like that without someone to guard you. I can’t just let that Drake guy come near you. He could hurt you and I would never be able to forgive myself if something were to happen to you,”

“Well, can you at least cover up?” That is when I realized I was still naked but her flushed cheeks were priceless.

“Are you sure you want me to cover up?”

“The naked version of you is truly tempting but right now, what I need s some alone time to absorb all these…strange revelations. Who knows? Maybe I will actually shift from writing romance to paranormal, considering that is what my life is all about now,”

“Hey, you have me. Don’t you ever forget that,” I grinned.

She smiled back at me,” Yeah. You make a pretty sexy distraction,”

I should have been offended by that but I’m not,” Well, if I’m such a sexy distraction as you claim, then why don’t you join me in the shower?”

“Nice try Wolf Man. I only share showers with people I date and you and, it’s pretty clear that its only ever going to be about sex. But you can go ahead and get that shower. I’m concerned however. I’m hundred percent certain that I saw you rip right through your clothes. So what are you going to wear now?”

Oh shit! I had forgotten about that.

“I guess now that lives me no choice but to spend the night here,” I said, grabbing a towel from the nicely stacked ones.

“Go take that shower if you need it so badly. Meanwhile, I’ll see what I can salvage in my parents room,”

“I’m not going to-“

“Be a good little cub and do as I say,” she smirked, stepping off the bed.

“Usually, I take offense when someone insults my wolf but there is something dirty…about the way you say it,” I spoke slyly, my palm coming into contact her ass.

She shook her head in pure amusement, “If you keep that up, I might be really tempted to join you in that shower but I won’t. Keep it in your pants Wolf man,”
