CHAPTER 21
CHAPTER TWENTY ONE
“Why can’t we just call the cops? You know, like how normal people do when they are in trouble?” Sasha pointed out.
“I have no idea how many times I have to tell you that I cannot call the cops. The moment I do, my grandchild is gone and I cannot afford to lose the last of my blood. This not like the normal city dear,” Mrs. Heathers answered and once again silence flooded the car. We had taken her in my car instead of having her board a taxi.
“When I agreed to tag along to this town in the middle of nowhere, I seriously did not expect to get into this kind of shit on the first day. I mean, a kidnapping, really? We’ve barely been in this town for five minutes. Heck! We do not even know this woman,” Trina whispered in my ear, her head bunched up between the two front seats but my mind was focused on the directions Mrs. Heathers was giving in a little panicked way.
“I may be old but I’m not deaf child,” Mrs. Heathers spoke.
That seemed to shut her up but I had to agree with Trina. This was not how I had planned to spend my short time here. I was supposed to be here so I can finally find the answers from my past and being caught in a kidnapping case on my first ten minutes, was not exactly how I had pictured my first day. But Mrs. Heathers used to be a great friend of my family back then and pretty much the only person who could help me in answering the questions of my past that had been tormenting me for years to no end. Her only daughter had been a victim as well that same night, living behind a one year old kid. I released a shaky breath. One thing was for sure; this town-my supposed hometown, was more than what it presented on the outside.
“We are here,” Mrs. Heathers signaled.
We were outside what looked like an abandoned warehouse, a little off the town. Shrubs had grown around it and just a bit off at the back, it led to a forest. I did not remember any of these places and as a matter of fact, this particular warehouse looked kind of creepy.
“And who is this Collins again?” Sasha questioned, grimacing as she stepped out of the car on the gravelly path leading to the warehouse. Who told her to wear heels?
“Somebody you would never really want to mess up with. He is something dangerous and I must warn all of you. Be wary of him and his kind,” Mrs. Heathers stated sternly.
“His kind? Is he like some Mafia guy or something? If he is hot enough, I would not mind getting-“
“Sasha!” Both Trina and I shouted.
“What? You had no idea what I was going to say. Well, maybe you had some bit of idea,” she rolled her eyes.
“Okay. Now, I need you to stay back here and I’ll go in alone,” Mrs. Heathers pointed out.
“No. I cannot let you go in there alone Mrs. Heathers,” I countered sharply. If she expected me to let her walk in there all alone without knowing exactly what she was walking into, then she had something else coming.
Her gaze softened as she looked me, cupping my cheek,” You remind me so much of your mother. She had the same fire that I now see coursing in your eyes. Just like her, I know it will be fruitless to argue with you. Come on,” She dragged me but at the mention of my mother, I had felt a certain wave of pain filter through me. I avoided Sasha and Trina’s gazes, knowing they’d would ask me questions. I had lied to them about ever knowing my parents but that had been for the best, well, at least it was for me.
“I think I’m just going to stay here. I do not exactly have my running shoes on with me,” Sasha said, as she reentered the car.
“You are such a coward,” Trina rolled her eyes as she joined us. Luckily enough, both Trina and I had adorned converse shoes. So carefully, along with Mrs. Heathers, we approached the warehouse, hiding behind a rather thick shrub.
“Hmm…so this a solo mission,” Mrs. Heathers spoke as she scouted the area around the warehouse.
“What?” I asked.
“Collins is obviously on an unsanctioned mission since I didn’t see any of his pups around. We are going to walk right in but,” Then she grabbed my palm and for a woman her age, she was pretty strong,” I must warn you. You might see things in there; things that are not normal to the human eye but do not panic because whatever you see, has a meaning and an explaination. Now, come on,” she let go of me, walking stealthy towards the backdoor of the warehouse before I could utter another word. Well, this was certainly getting more weird.
“Strange. I think I’m beginning to have an interest in this particular town. Come on, let’s follow her,” Trina whispered as she nudged me.
It was a pretty big warehouse but when Trina and I hid behind some really large metal boxes or at least they appeared to look to like that.
“What do you want from me Collins that you had to stoop so low to kidnap my granddaughter?”
“You are not alone Heathers. Who did you bring along? Wait, why is that scent so familiar?” The familiarity of that particular voice hit me deep as I barely registered the sounds of footsteps growing closer.
“Alpha,” I muttered as I walked away from where we were hiding, rushing into the clearing and almost running into the man I had coined the name Alpha. He wore the same shocked expression as I. Every nerve in my body was awake as flashes of what had happened between us, rushed through my brain.
“N-Nadia? What are you doing here?” He questioned, pulling me back to reality.
“I could ask you the same thing. What are you doing here? Unless you are working with-“I was cut off by Trina’s scream.
“Fuck! That’s insanely big dog!” She cussed just as I laid my eyes on it. It looked like a wolf or dog perhaps except abnormally bigger with its sharp teeth bared out as it circled the chair where Mrs. Heather’s granddaughter was tied, looking completely shaken.
