Chapter 18: I Can't Sleep

Naomi Jamieson POV

We almost kissed when a lady came in and I felt so shy and we walked out not talking about it.

We got home not taking much,I had my bath and told him to sleep on the couch in the living room and he didn't argue with me and he left to sleep there after telling me goodnight.
I locked my door and tried to sleep but I could not sleep.

I was able to close my eyes and sleep for about a few minutes when I had a nightmare about the demon.I was sweating all over and he knocked asking,"Are you okay?"

"Yes I am,it's just a dream,sorry for waking you up."

"No problem,let me know if you need me."

"I don't think so,just go to sleep." I took a deep breath and went to my collections of paranormal book and picked one to read titled 'The Hybrid Alpha'

I will spend time reading this and maybe sleep might come when I get exhausted from reading .

I opened the first chapter and I read;


"You thought you could escape from me, Eva? You should know better than to escape from the pack."

Alpha Thawne stated. His voice carried an aura of command. He sat on a big wooden chair, barefooted, like the others. Laura, who didn't know what was going on, just stood there, not daring to look at the leader who addressed her. She was still in shock seeing those big wolves turning into humans.


"Maybe she is still panic-stricken when she knows who she was sent to get rid of." The wife of the Alpha, Luna Eiith, chipped in.

Laura felt the imposing gaze of the Alpha on her and her skin burned. "Tell me, Eva, why did you run?" He asked.

Laura didn't know what to say, she just kept mute, who would believe her if she told them she was another person, not the Eva they knew. "I am sorry, my lord, If you would give me the mission again, I would do it for you" she found herself saying.

Alpha Thawne chuckled. "My Lord? I have never heard of such a silly name. You sure are Eva, always coming with things beyond the realm's knowledge." He stopped his chuckle and his face became imposing again. "Are you sure you would truly carry out the task?"


"Yes..." She replied. She just had to play along in order to escape again. Apart from her, Luna and the Alpha, no one else was inside the room they were in.


"Go to Blood Moon Pack and make the Hybrid Alpha fall in love with you..."

Laura was taken into another room where he met two other ladies there. They seemed to look happy when they saw her.


"You are alive, Eva" One of the ladies squealed the moment she entered.


"For now I guess," She replied.


"When you escaped from the pack when Alpha Thawne sent you to Blood moon, we thought you were dead because no one escapes the Alpha but you are here now." The first lady said again.


"I'm sure she had been sent back to the place she dreaded to go. One way or the other, Death seems to always find her, Olga" the other lady replied to the first woman, Olga.
Olga sighed and released her hold on Laura.


" Eva, whatever it is you have been sent to do to the Hybrid Alpha, don't do it..." Olga said in worry. "You should die in the hands of Alpha Maverick than die in the hands of the Hybrid."


"Why?" She found herself asking.


"Because no one ever sent to the Alpha to gain his heart always comes back alive. He killed his six destined mates, he has no heart to love and the same fate awaits you if you go" The other lady replied.

She had committed suicide in the place she came from and woke up in this realm, only to find out she was being sent to her death. Was it really her punishment for trying to take her own life or was it why she was resurrected to make the Hybrid Alpha fall in love and gain his heart?

*Laura left her pack, got captured and locked up as she was questioned about the reason for entering their territory, she refused to let it out and the Hybrid Alpha made the blood feast take place just to make her talk.*

The full moon was glowing in all its glory, shedding its light over the inhabitants of earth. The aborigines of the blood moon pack gathered around as they watched the event that was about to happen. The Alpha's command had made them watch what they considered an omen. It was the Blood moon night, an event when starved prisoners would have to fight and devour each other and the last man standing would be set free.

This night was different, the last man would be able to devour a healthy prisoner and that prisoner was Laura. After what the man she had come to know, his name, Alwin, had told her, she would prefer to die a normal death than get devoured and painfully die a slow death.

The prisoners were lined in, about seventy of them. They growled like raging beasts, waiting to tear down each other apart. Laura could only describe them as Zombies who strived for nothing but food.

Across them was Mave who still had the black eyes and intimidating eyes that could send down fear into any creature. Alwin stood behind him nervously, he hopefully hoped that the real Mave he knew would come back to his senses.

He came up to the wide circle and addressed the people. "We all know that this Blood Moon event was stopped by the previous Alpha who hated bloodshed but now, we have once again gathered to watch this event hold but this time, for a solid reason!" He stopped.

He looked at the grim faces staring at him and then at Mave to see if he had come back to his senses but still nothing. "We found this creature who didn't seem to belong to the pack wandering around our territory for dangerous reasons. She failed to reveal her suffering and that's why we are adding her as a bonus to the winner of this feast!" He paused. "The last man devours her and hangs her skull as a trophy!"

The starved beasts snarled at her but they were all restrained by thick chains, made from another material. Alwin went back to his previous position.

Everyone cheered, his speech seemed to have revived the blood show the pack had always wanted.

Laura watched in terror. She was immobile since she was tied to a tree. She wanted to scream but her mouth was gagged, she watched helplessly as Alwin gave his speech and the jubilation.
The Alpha was no mere joke! Before she had taken on the assignment, she thought the rumors about him were all hyped but now, she was witnessing how cold-hearted and beastly he was.

The rampage started. The man eaters brawled, one of them jumped on another and ripped his head off. The rest devoured the fallen man, tearing his flesh he remained a pile of bone. When everyone was finished with him, they resumed again, tearing each other down and devouring themselves.

From seventies, they dwindled to sixties, fifties and to ten. The ten of these monsters growled, stalking each other like predators stalking their prey.

One of them suddenly broke off and sprinted at Laura who was too shocked to scream and the moment the beast tried to shred her, Alwin who was obviously faster appeared in front of Laura and held the beast midway with his hand and squeezed his brains out.

It was a gory sight Laura would never forget in her life because she felt numb, lifeless but conscious. The rest of the battling prisoners knew better than make the mistake or die in the hands of the Beta.

They wrestled until only one prisoner was left. It was a big one with bones ripping from its body. It was the prisoner that had eyed Laura and grumbled for one piece of a loaf that had been given to her. Alwin, who was back to his normal post, wished for Mave to come back to his senses.

One step at a time, it charged across the field towards Laura, its eyes totally ignoring the events and cheers hauling for him. He was after the prey, nothing else and in seconds, he would rip her to shreds.

Meanwhile, Mave stirred in his subconscious as the scent of the peach flower hit him. His wolf kept kicking within him and kept growling 'Mate'
He was woken from his dream when he suddenly realized what he had done.


"Mave?" Alwin called from behind and he looked back, his eyes waiting for explanation.


"What's going on?"


"We don't have time to talk, do you really want that prisoner to die?" Alwin asked and Mave's eyes darted to the field where the prisoner was about to attack his mate.

Mave got on his feet as he realized that in seconds, something bad was about to happen. His wolf kicked in and took a forceful transformation by turning into a very big black wolf and the moment the beast bared his fangs on Laura's head to rip off, The big wolf caught him by the waist and used his paws to rip his head off.

The crowd quietened as they realized that the Alpha had stopped the fight. Alwin came up beside him and spoke up.
"The little show we have all seen here was to make this prisoner confess her truth and the deed had been done. She had decided to tell the truth and that's why the match had to be stopped!" His voice boomed.

There were disappointed looks on their faces and Alwin knew that a protest was about to begin because the Alpha had gone back on his words.

One of the notable elders in the pack, Kolk, stepped out, he had served Mave's previous generations and the look on his face clearly showed that he was displeased. Mave transformed back and he wore a challenging look on his face.


"You have gone back on your word, Maverick! She has to die!" Kolk protested and Mave stepped up to him, towering above the old man.


"You shall not!" His reply shocked everyone, even Alwin who never believed Mave could get worked up on a single woman or prisoner. Kolk was a respected elder, who after the Alpha, had more influence than anybody.


"Why, Maverick?" Kolk's voice was dangerously calm, yet threatening and commanding.


"Because...." Mave stopped and looked around. He watched their faces and Alwin's, then at the prisoner too who was too shocked to have found out to still be alone.

"Because she is my Mate!"

I can't believe I have gotten to chapter 6,so Maverick mate is someone sent to kill him? I must keep on reading.
