Chapter 20: Stop Reading And Sleep

It's already 2am.I will just read a chapter and go to bed. Later in the day,I will finish the book. It's so interesting and I am wishing they are real.
I turned the page and I rea;
"Since when?" Kolk asked.


"From the onset she arrived. I felt something odd about her and that's why I ordered her to confess or be devoured" Mave stated and got up. "And next time..." He smirked.

Kolk felt something odd, for a moment, he could have sworn he saw something change in the alpha,and the next moment, he hit the hard wall. His legs failed him the moment he stood, it was like all his energy had been sapped.


"Mind the way you speak... I am the Alpha. Evil runs in my blood, Do not test me!" Mave growled. His eyes are already black with the intent to kill.

Alwin wouldn't move, he already knew it was the Hybrid form of Maverick and he knew the consequences of interfering.

Laura walked through the street of the pack. The three maids escorted her, she had come to know their names as Hermosa, Luciana and Michelle. They showed her the territories of the pack.

It was fun sightseeing with the maids and she really enjoyed their companies.


"Look" Hermosa, the oldest among them, pointed to a gathering and there were chants and roars coming from them.

The four of them walked to the place and made their way to the front. Two men were fighting, the space given to them was wide enough to determine the fate of the fight.

One of the men transformed into a giant wolf, intimidating but not as big as the Alpha's black wolf. It was beautiful and it would be almost twice the size of the creature he was staring at. The brown wolf launched at the other man with its big paws but the latter, using his reflex and speed to his advantage, dodged and sent a heavy blow to the neck.
The wolf staggered sideways and attacked again, but this time, this man waited until the last moment and moved out of the way and instantly, he transformed into a massive brow-white striped wolf and caught the other by the neck.

It pinned the other down and bit deeper until he got a submission from the other wolf and with that, the crowd broke into a wide crowd and chanted 'Lucas! Lucas!..."

Laura liked the fight - The guy, maybe. He had the skills, maybe he could use the new position to hire a bodyguard.

The maids looked at her and Hermosa tapped her. "Are you okay?"

Laura was jolted out of her thoughts and she faked a smile. "Oh, yes... I'm okay"

She made to leave but mistakenly bumped into a man. "I'm sorry" she apologized without looking up but the man she bumped into grabbed her hand with his strong hand.

She looked up in surprise, this man was a tall man,well built and a scar running across his jaw to the neck, probably, to the chest too. He looked dangerous.


"You... You smell nice" the man pulled her close to him. The maids panicked in terror as they seemed to know who the man was.

Laura didn't know where she got the strength from but she wriggled herself from his grip and shifted back. By now, the crowd chanting had quietened as they realized the event was happening.


"Who is he?" She asked one of them.


"That's Brom, Elder Kolk's son." Michelle answered her.


"I'm sorry for bumping into you, sir..." She apologized again but Brom snickered and moved closer to her but he was stopped.


"Trying to hit on the Luna is a punishable offense and you can be hanged for it" Lucas broke from the crowd and joined the women.


"And you are?" Brom asked.


"The Alpha's beta's brother, Lucas" he introduced. The crowd began to grumble and whisper. 'The luna?' 'I heard the mate declare the prisoner used as a trophy for his mate..' 'Such insolent act!'
Absurd words were spoken and Laura felt ashamed but what made her curious was how he easily knew who she was.

She watched Brom leave with anger, likewise others too until only the five of them were left.


"How did you know who I am?" She asked immediately.


"Your hair and skin, you are just like how my brother described. ``Beautiful like the moon, unique and strong" He replied with a smile and bowed. "I am Lucas... Alwin's Brother"

Laura sat in her room, she was grinning from ear to ear as she thought about her encounter with the Beta's brother, Lucas. His manliness, strength and character reminded her of her first love, Mario.

{Seven years ago}

Laura, who had her bag slung on her shoulder, walked through the train station that seemed to be desolate with people. True, night had set in and the train wouldn't be arriving any sooner, she had to walk herself to her destination.

She felt conscious as she passed by a group of ruffians who were smoking. She hastened her steps and when she figured out that she had gone a considerable distance from them, she slowed down her pace.

Her relief was cut short as she began to hear some of the thugs following behind her, the stench of the cigarettes they smoked covered her made her choke and she immediately clamped her hand on her nose. She had a breathing problem, she was asthmatic and she avoids inhaling unpurified air.

She looked back and saw them coming towards her and in apprehension, she ran a bit and suddenly bumped into a person, someone strong enough to hold her from falling.

Her world slowed, she was caught in the warm embrace of him and just staring into his misty eyes, she felt trapped, unable to look away.
Her beautiful moment was brought to an abrupt stop as the bad guys stopped, just inches away from the guy.


"Why are you f**king with our prey homey!" One of them, four in total, ranted out and moved closer to the guy in a challenging manner.


"Chasing after a helpless lady is cowardly" The man had replied in his Italian accent. Ethane had always fantasized about going to Italy with her prince charming for vacation.

The way he had stood up for her and defended her that very night made her fall for him. Her very true love.

Lucas seemed to have the same traits. She turned red but the door opened and that brought her out of her fantasy.


"Hey, Herm... What's up?" She smiled. Hermosa looked up at the roof in confusion


"Just the light glass" she replied, she checked again to be sure.


"When I say what's up, it means how are you doing...." Ethane slurred and smirked.


"When did you know about it?" Hermosa asked.


Ethane grinned and went over to her. "Have you ever seen a Bird that swallows people?"

Hermosa widened her eyes in fear. "A big bird? Where? I must inform the Alpha!" She panicked.

Laura laughed. "O. it's called Aeroplane... A plane and it's not real" she lied.


"Tell me more" Hermosa requested. She stood and watched Laura explain things she found too true to be a lie.


"...A big snake that swallows people is called a train," Laura explained many things to her, she knew she might give herself out but then she didn't mind, she just wanted to gawk at the curiosity of the old woman.

The door flung open and the other two maids ran inside. They had been at the door the entire time and listened to her speak absurd things.


"Tell us more, luna" they squealed and Laura sighed. She knew she had spent the entire day talking.

.Mave walked into his room. There was another unnoticed door inside his room which he opened and a mini library was revealed.

He racked through the scrolls that were there and his hands mistakenly fell an object. A sparkling chain fell to the ground. The moment he saw the chain, he began to choke and fell to the ground.

Alwin sped in and returned the chain back to its position and covered it.


"You alright?" He asked.

Mave coughed and when he found his voice again, he got up. "Yeah."


"Tell me, you still feel haunted by what he did to you?" Alwin asked but that earned him a growl from Mave and he muted.


"Take that trash away... I don't want to see it laying around again." He growled and walked away. He went into another row of scrolls and picked one.

I was so carried away with my reading and didn't know when Aiden came in and I screamed seeing his red eyes shining at night,"Ahhhhhhhhh," I covered my face with the blanket and the light was turned on it was him.

"You almost gave me a heart attack,why didn't you knock or make a sound?"
"I did but didn't get a response,what are you reading? "

"Just leave my room."
"No way." He took the book from me and said,"Stop reading and sleep,you need it,it's almost 4am." He yelled at me and left.

Did he just yell at me in my own room?
