Chapter 28

I scream and struggle in his grip, causing him to growl and continue on his way to wherever he's bringing me. I quit trying after a time and just dangle across his shoulder, my black hair streaming ahead of me as well as my gaze fixed on his denim-clad butt. "Hot damn," I exclaim gratefully. He takes another set of steps after walking along a hallway. As we reached a floor covered with windows which look down over the now-tiny living room below, I gaze about at the various doors and furnishings arranged around the home.
My gaze returns to Gabriel as he enters his bedroom through two black double entryways and, as I recall, places me on his large-sized bed. I scrambled to the other side as soon as I hit the squishy mattress in vain. Gabriel's arm encircles my waist and and pulls me back, my hands gliding across the covers as I scowl. "There are those who believe you are my stumbling block. So please, pay attention to what I'm saying and stay." He spins me around and pleading with me to compromise with his eyes. Before a frown crosses my lips, I nod in agreement. "So... I'm your stumbling block?"
"No," he says softly, the back of his fingers brushing my cheek. "They don't realize it, but you are my strength."

I look at him, my eyes wide with surprise. My cheeks are on fire, which prompts his smile to expand and his emerald eyes to twinkle with delight at my plight. I clumsily clear my throat before nodding and gazing around his room, trying all I can to escape his attention.
He walks forward towards the door without saying anything until he's convinced I won't run. "Can I at least get out of here?"
"No. Please stay here till I return. Is it clear that you are not to leave this room or this house?" He asks, his back to me, as he comes to a halt beside the door, his hand just on handle.

"You wretched bit of—" I toss a pillow towards him, which lands softly on the floor after hitting his back.
"I like it because it's feisty." I hear him giggle, and then he's gone, making me to scream into a pillow, frustrated.

I enter Chris Valentine's office and then close the door, observing as William Valentine looks at me through the large window as he surveys their territory with just a glass of scotch in his hand. Our packs have been divided into districts, with me commanding the majority of America and Chris commanding the southern districts. Chris is the leader of The Venerable Pack, while I am the leader of The Renascence Pack, which I named after I resurrected the pack ever since my parents died and elevated it above its previous position. We're supposed to be neutral allies, but now that the former and the current Alphas have heard what I have to say about Amanda, I'm not so sure.
A little spitfire is circling in my head at all hours of the day and night. It irritates me that all I can consider about is her. I tried everything I could to keep away, to ignore and move on and then leave her alone, but she was kidnapped and tortured by my own pack. After that, my wolf and I didn't want to let her out of our sight. We became so secure of her that it always amazed me when I act or think in a way that prioritizes her safety and protection. It scares me how much I prioritize her over the rest of the pack, but it feels right at the same time.
I want her in every possible way the more money I spent with her. Mura, my beast, is a wolf that I can't seem to control. He pines for his soul mate and lusts after her. He doesn't seem to mind that she's human and frail, a creature easily broken by our species. No, all he desires is to mate with her and claim her as his own, demonstrating to all other males that Amanda Thomas is his one and only. Every day, I have to contend with lustful fantasies about the pleasure I could give Amanda. Her sincerity doesn't help matters either, as she is constantly teasing me without realizing it. Try controlling two territorial beasts if you think trying to control one is difficult.
Vampires are yet another species that is equally possessive of their mates, or beloveds as they prefer to refer to them. The Moon Goddess made the wise decision to give me two insane beasts, and now she's simply sitting with a bowl of popcorn and her feet placed up on a coffee table, watching my messed-up life unfold. With a sigh, I subdue my beasts, who are presently demanding that I return to Amanda. It's giving me a migraine because I need to take care of some other matters before returning to my mate.
I take a seat in the chair and look at Chris Valentine. He'd only been in charge of the pack for two years, but he'd already proven to be ruthless in battle. He is the golden boy, with blue eyes and blonde hair. His parents' features were mixed in and prominent, and he looked exactly like them. "It's hard for me to genuinely think she's your mate." He laughs dryly and shakes his head. "And she kept us in the dark about the reality that she was to see you the whole time." "Considering what you have said to her when you found out she was chatting me the other night, I told her to." I growl threateningly at him, causing him to narrow his eyes in my direction.
"That was not my intention. I was just curious as to why you were so taken with her; she's a human." He clenches his fists and closes his eyes before breathing deeply and opening them again. "I couldn't tell her what you're like; what we're like." "Well, I suppose I should express my gratitude for that." I grin at his perplexed expression. "That night, I was the one who picked her up, my friend crying on a random street, alone, you fucker! She allowed me to console her, and I can confidently say that our bond is now much stronger. I'll deliver a fruit basket to you." "You bast –" "Chris," with a war ning tone in his voice, William spoke up.
