Chapter 46

I'm currently taking a walk in the woods. I'm also out of my mind since I went alone, despite Gabriel's cautions that I shouldn't go around the region without a guard or himself. I resent Gabriel for not permitting me go along to his dumb pack meeting as I cry out in horror as I yet again, trip over another stone. "You haven't been given permission yet." When we were apart for a week, he had commented before departing me in his home that it appeared as if a thousand battles had occurred. What the fuck was I, a small child?
"Are you Amanda Thomas?" A voice from behind jolts me back into the real world and causes me to turn around. Three guys clothed in blue, white, and gold uniforms emerge from the trees all together, one holding a scroll. When I discover they know my name, I look at them warily. The hoods on their dark blue cloaks hide their faces, making it almost difficult for me to sight them. As the man in their middle hands out the same scroll to me, I'm worried about the dramatic change in the mood. "Because we are not able to travel further due to other obligations, could you please give this to King Silva on our behalf?"
"Sure," I respond, causing them to smile. ""What do you mean by 'what's in it for me?" "How does it benefit me?" I'm not Gabriel's messenger, running out to fetch his mail. '' I cross my arms and deadpan. "I'll give you twenty dollars," The man reaches into his pocket then pulls out the cash, his deep voice deadpanning. ''Sold!'' I smile as I take the scroll as well as the money from him then waved farewell and watched them walk away, giggling.

I walk carefully back to Gabriel's house, staring up at the puffy white clouds drifting all over the blue sky and the tall trees' green leaves swinging in the soft breeze. It's a lovely day, with a gentle breeze ruffling my tresses. The birds sing from their nests, and squirrels and bunnies chase each other, making me happy...until I tripped over a vine the fourth straight time today. I disentangle my leg while screaming angrily, then march back with my hands clenched at my sides.
As I get closer, I can hear noises, and I eventually break by the treeline and stumbled out from the woods. Looking up, I saw Gabriel come to a halt in his talk on a giant rock that appears to be a platform for the large throng gathered around it, each one staring at me. ''Amanda?'' Due to the microphone in his front, Gabriel frowns and motions for me to approach him. My name echoes in the clearing. As I approach him, the throng erupts in gasps and murmurs, and I look at them, perplexed. Some of them are even shrieking with delight, which I find strange.
"Hey," I say, accepting his offered hand and allowing him to help me up upon the slab of granite. "I was asked to hand you this by certain men." "Twenty dollars?" Before grabbing the cash from him and replacing it with the scroll, I gaze down at his hand. "Oh no, that's mine." I gave them the task of delivering this." As he reads the scroll, I glance around at the enormous field littered with people. Before returning to face Gabriel, who is already staring at me with wide eyes, I grin and waved back to the people who waved at me.
"Did they wear cloaks and a blue, white, and gold uniform?" "Yes!" "How did you figure that out?" "Amanda," He groans and hands the scroll to Ryan, who grins at me as he wraps it up. "You charged the Royals?" I look up at him as astonished gasps resound through the calm day. Because of our proximity to the microphone, the crowd can hear our chat, but neither of us notices. "Is it similar to the royal mail in the werewolf world?" Of course, I'd levy a fee! They should execute their work correctly since I'm not their messenger."
The audience hollers and cheers in accord, drowning out Gabriel's sigh. I huff and cross my arms. "Everyone leave." Gabriel yells over the commotion, causing the throng to separate, with some fleeing for the enormous pack homes and others for the forest. He returns his gaze to me just as I grinned at Ryan before frowning and pulls me away from his side. When Ryan rolls his eyes over Gabriel's controlling behavior, I mimic him, sniggering as he barks at us. "Amanda, the werewolf council's royal guards are the ones you encountered in the woods."
"Oh," I sigh as I realize what I've said before shrugging. "I'll tell them it is indeed your fault I charged them; you didn't inform me about them, so then you're in hot water." I manage to extricate myself from his grip and make my way towards his home. Before trying to catch up with me and connecting our hands, I heard him tell Ryan something. Gabriel happily talks about his area and pack as we work our way back. "So, you're the Alpha, Ryan's the Beta, and you're both in charge of the majority of America?!" I exclaim, staring up at him as he locks the door behind me and walks me to the kitchen.
"We've been together since we were both nineteen." It took nearly a full year for me to track down my siblings, Ryan, and other prior pack members who'd already gone when I escaped." He supports me upon the kitchen counter then stepping between my legs, his gaze fixed on his hand, which is teasing my hair. When I'm near Gabriel, I've discovered that he enjoys some type of touch. He has a tendency to become possessive at times and like to keep me in sight, which entails holding on to me.
"Wait, how old are you?"
"I’m twenty-six years old"
"That's a six-year gap,"
You'll have grey hair before I do!
'' I chuckle as I leap off the counter and into the pantry, looking through the shelves for something to eat. "Why don't you want to eat anything?" "Because," he says as he clutches my arm and drags me back to him. "I'm not one that cooks from time to time."
