Chapter 38
Gabriel isn't as awful as I am, but there are clearly hints that perhaps the distance has had an impact on him. He has little bags under his eyes and his skin seems it has lost its color, and he appears exhausted, as if he has lost all of his energy. I'm not even going to start on myself. In barely a week, we've devolved into a shambles! "We don't look good." He chuckles as he draws away. "You have really no idea how difficult it was for me and my wolf to keep knocking down your door day after day."
"Isabella kept me in the loop." In a shrug, I lift one shoulder. "She said you'd infuse Wo - Wolfsbane into yourself?" Why then would you do something like that? Chris tells me it hurts a lot." "I wanted to give you some breathing room because I had already overburdened you." "But why?" "Amanda, my wolf makes it hard to resist you" He cuts me off and pulls me along with him, resting back against the sofa. "All he wants to do is claim you in any way he can, but I want to give you some time."
Humans are incredibly unusual for Alphas to get as mates, but whenever they do, they usually are fiercely guarded. I want you to be in my sight and not within harm's path at all times. And if I permit my wolf take command, he'll compel you to do something you don't want to do, and that's something I won't allow." I hum, my face buried in the curve of his neck and my arms encircling him. When he strokes my hair, I get a tingle up my spine and feel tired all of a sudden. He has no right to criticize me; after all, the guy got me up at three a.m. for Pete's sake!
I felt him standing with me, still in his arms some time later. I jerk open a drowsy eyelid to discover that I'm being taken back to the room. I sigh contentedly as he sets me down upon my bed and wraps me with my blanket, cuddling even deeper into his chest.
I opened up my eyes seeing him stand up, putting one hand in his pants pocket while stroking behind his neck with the other. He leans down and plants a delicate kiss on my forehead before walking towards the door, the sensation of his lips staying long after he has walked away. I called to him just when he was about to leave my room. He turns, his body silhouette black by the soft glow emanating from the corridor. "Please stop injuring yourself. I don't really like the concept of you being in pain." I murmur, knowing that because of his heightened powers, he can hear me.
"As you wish, mi luz." He stares at me as he speaks, and his eyes are so intense that I'm not sure what he called me. "Sweet dreams, little companion," (my light.) "Goodnight, Gabriel," I said. I murmur as I watch him shut the door and hear his movements as he goes downstairs and out the door. For the very first in a week, I slept soundly and with a grin on my face, knowing that everything between us has finally come to a satisfactory conclusion.

I'm currently dangling from the balcony, my grip strong on the sheet rope I've fashioned. I do, in fact, have a death desire. When the door bursts open. Then a familiar voice yells my name, I calm down before shouting out in terror. When I hear Gabriel's footsteps approaching, I didn't have to wait long for him to lean over the balcony and stare at me with fierce green eyes. Before gesturing to the pair of soldiers and Paloma below, I laugh awkwardly. "What the fuck are you thinking, little mate?!!" Gabriel thunders down from above, making me dread what is about to happen.
"Hey! I'll let you know, gentleman, that I'm of normal height!" I yell, pointing at him, before resuming my grip on the rope. I disregard him and make my way downward from the rope, my fingers whitened by the tightness of my grip. Gabriel's house stands three stories high, so if I fall, I'll almost certainly end myself in the hospital. The males are standing over to the side, such that they cannot see up my skirt, because the wind is not blowing today. Finally, my feet reach the earth, and I smile with delight as I glance up at my work of art, before groaning as two hands grab my hips. I know who it is because sparkles and tingles virtually erupt all over my skin. With a scowl on his lips as well as his eyes deepening by the minute, he swings me around enough to face him. "I can't possibly leave you by myself for a single second, can I?" He screams angrily and pulls me back into the house, holding my hand. "For the love of God, Amanda, you could've died!" "Nah, the ropes were very tight!" While the guards return to where they are typically stationed, Paloma cuts in behind us. "Don't encourage her!" As he left me to be brought to my doom, I manage to give Paloma a high five.
I'm back in his room, where he's pacing across from me and I'm sitting on the side of the bed. When I see how upset he is, keeping quiet feels like the sensible thing to do. So I let him mutter to himself and give me furious looks now and then. "Wait, what was that?!?" He screams angrily and bends downwards to look at me in the eyes. I'd be dishonest if I said I wasn't concerned about the full extent of his rage. "That was my attempt to flee. I mean, it's pretty self-evident." "You're going to stay here." I sneer and pushed him away as he growls.
"I'm not like that at all! This is the crime of abduction!" "You are my companion-" "That I can be from my house" "It's too risky!" He yells at me, forcing me to stop talking.
As he pants, his chest thrusts up and down, attempting to control his respiration. His eyes, which were originally a dark green, have turned obsidian, with crimson streaks flashing across them as if asking to be seen. I can tell he's trying to relax. However, the way he rubs the tip of his nose as well as the frequent grunts that leaves his lips indicate that it's not working.
"You're staying here, and this will be the very last time we'll talk about it!" He clenches his teeth and walks out of the room, slamming the door behind him. The sound takes me by surprise, and I let out a frustrated yell. He took my phone from me only moments earlier when I attempted to contact Chris to come pick me up. Now I'm stranded in this place because I don't have access to any devices.
