Chapter 69
As I peer out the window and see the moon, I can hear him sigh. He reaches for me, and I move away as I feel the bed sag. I continue to shuffle away each time he moves towards me for the next several minutes. He growls fiercely, and I smile triumphantly before yelling as I lose my footing and tumble off the bed. I quickly get up off the ground and cast a quick glance at Gabriel, who is plainly biting his lip to hold back his laughing. "I had intended to do that" I told him ."And you did, my darling, for sure." He responds and closes his eyes before laughing.
I'm shocked into stunned stillness by the sight. His features were entirely at ease as he let out deep chuckles from lips that were stretched into a grin. Right now, he appears even more attractive. I suddenly stop gazing and get to my feet as I move for the door. He stops laughing, but I can still hear him chuckling. As my hand turns the key to open it, I'm yanked back against a strong, muscular chest. He kisses my neck repeatedly while I cross my arms as though to resist giving in. "Stop it, Gabriel," I say.
He doesn't even sigh in response; instead, he picks me up and carries me to the bed. He lays me down, ties my legs round his waist, and forcibly presses his hips into mine. I fight and gasp, aware that he's attempting to divert my attention. I scream, shoving him away as I roll away. "Just allow me to be angry with you." "No. And I figured you'd already forgotten about it."
"It doesn't really matter, Amanda."
"It is to me! I'm curious about what transpired because your pack predicts that I'll turn out to be just like her." I get out of bed while still sitting up and move toward the balcony doors.
I need to leave him because being around him is making it difficult for me to think clearly. " But you wouldn't want to share anything with me. I wouldn't have discovered you were a werewolf till much later if I had not been with you. You wouldn't have admitted to being a hybrid if I hadn't overheard you and Ryan bickering. What, do I too have to discover this secret by accident? ''
Then there is a lengthy stillness. None of us speak up. Gabriel is seated beside me on the bed with his breathing regular and quiet as I stand there by the doors. The way he's acting so quiet gives me the impression that he won't even tell me. Although I don't like to push him, this worries me. I wait for a bit, feeling my hope wane along with my legs, until I finally sigh deeply and decide that I should simply turn in for the night. "You are not my first mate." he said. My eyes widen as he speaks softly, and I turn to face him. "What do you mean, W? Do werewolves have several mates?"

He sighs and ducks his head from my inquisitive gaze. "When I first came across Elizabeth, or Eliza as you've heard, I was just twenty-one years old. I was naive enough to think that she and Luna would form the perfect couple back then. I gave her anything she asked for and treated her like a queen, but the pack, the members of the council, and the royals did not like her." He stops suddenly as I turn to look at him. The knowledge that he formerly had a companion makes me anxious. I massage my chilled arm and turned to face the floor when his focus turns to me. His eyes shut tightly, and his breathing grew rough and uneven, as if he were battling to control his need to injure. "I fought with everyone who rejected her because I couldn't figure out why. She persuaded me to mate her and then mark her after we had been dating for a year and half. I'm not sure why I pushed it off so much, but now that I know she has been cheating on me, I'm glad I did."' I take another look up at him, my mouth gaping. "She did what? how could she have done that, he asks, shaking his head and shrugging. "Our kind can tell when a partner is cheating, and I've heard that hurts more than anything else. However, Eliza was able to place a spell easily so that when she had a sexual contact, I felt nothing since she was also a small part-witch from her mother's line. She denied it when I questioned her about it, but other pack members showed up and told me the truth. When she had relationships with vampires and werewolves, the stupid whore didn't leave the humans! Our connection turned into a joke." The light on the bedside table is suddenly broken as he grunts loudly and slams his hand against the top. I scurry over and grabbed his arm to prevent additional injury.
He growls and turns his dark, enraged eyes at me. I mutter to him as I prick his lips, then I let go of him so that I may reassuringly trace his cheeks with my fingertips. He wraps his arms around my waist and rests his head on my belly while taking a big breath. I use my hand to comb over his silky, brown hair, which ofcourse at night, appears practically black. He stands up and walks over to the armchair where a glass decanter and two sparkling glasses are placed on a tray on top the coffee table. He takes off the lid and poured some potent scotch for himself to settle his anxiety while my nose twitches at the fragrance. I waited for him to finish his narrative while sitting on the bed with my hands folded in my lap. He talks after finishing a whole glass, and his voice is gruff. " She only desired my money, the position and the opportunity to brag about her new status as a Royal. When she would come home very late at night and claim that her café had a full day, I should have known and should have seen beyond her phony justifications. I was totally blind."
I couldn't say anything as he begins to tremble violently. "So, what happened afterwards?" He remains silent for some time, merely inhaling and exhaling deeply while gripping the glass so tightly that his knuckles grow white and I start to worry that the glass may break.
"Dear?"
He replied afterwards, "I let them to murder her." I instantly get frozen. I look at him in disbelief and am confronted with green eyes that are in anguish. How could he allow the death of his own mate? I thought.
