Chapter 64

I heard as I'm passing through one of the pack house's halls. I freeze in place, keep silent, and listen in. I know it's impolite, so sue me. I can make out two ladies who appear to be in their early twenties and who are clothed in workout gear from behind the wall. The blonde says in a low voice, "Amanda's a human, but she's gonna end up just the same as Michelle if Alpha suddenly loses his temper." "But she's so unlike that skank." I think she's hilarious and nice to everyone and I like her." the brunette responds, giving me a little grin. "Let's only hope that this time, we don't get a whore who did not care about the pack, but an actual Luna."
I slink away and enter a different hallway, their remarks still fresh in my head. What did they mean when they said this time the pack will actually have a Luna? And who is Michelle, exactly? I hear Ryan calling me from his office as I'm moving down the corridor. I've visited this location a few occasions when Gabriel required certain papers and files so I was ready to rush over. As I enter, I notice a small brunette lying on his lap with eyes the color of rich chocolate, ruby-red lips, and a faint flush on her otherwise pale complexion. She has a delicate appearance, a thin physique, and an air of purity that is tempered by a wicked glint in her eyes.
I raise an eyebrow at Ryan and say, "Mate?" He smiles down at the girl while nodding. I wanted to give you two an introduction. She just returned today from a visit with her relatives, and Gabriel has been keeping you cooped up in the home. I laugh together with his mate. "I'm Amanda Thomas,"
"Wow. The gossip about you in the pack won't stop. Lily Danbury here." She exudes excitement, which makes me grin. I grin. Given that she happens to be the Beta Female, she appears wonderful, and I hope we can become friends. It would be fantastic to have a pleasant face around because I haven't made much friends in the pack yet.
I stayed and chat with them for some time. When Ryan and Gabriel met a pack in Spain, they got to know each other. Their relationship was first a little difficult, but it later became more amicable, and Lily finally moved to America with Ryan. The sweetest pair ever, they have been together for four years. Lily is quiet and reserved, whereas Ryan is more extroverted and boisterous. But after chatting to them for over an hour, I discovered that when she does talk, she's extremely snarky. She outsmarts Ryan, who would only playfully frown at her in response, and I can't stop giggling. I must leave though eventually. I assure Vanessa that I will see her soon so we can say goodbye. As I leave the pack house, four guards pursue me as I make my way back to Gabriel's home. In terms of security, that man is absurd! I take the protracted, peaceful walk through the forest before ascending the steps and entering the home. The moment I notice Charlie from the party sitting there chatting to Paloma and Valeria, I do a second take and sigh softly under my breath.
When I shut the door, they all turn to face me, the two siblings rolling their eyes and pulling faces behind their cousin. They appear to dislike their relative as well. I conceal my chuckle and give the man who is approaching me a stiff grin. He grabs my hand and for longer than necessary pushes his lips unto the top of my knuckles, making me uncomfortable. "Amanda, it's been a while." He says huskily as he stands up straight.
It has, indeed. Are you in town to see your cousins? What I really do want to know is just how long he plans to be here, so that's why I'm asking. He grinned at me, nodded, and sat down on one of the couches. He then began blathering on about how he had to go and join his younger relatives. I finally excuse myself and head upstairs to my bedroom. Due to a very obstinate Alpha who snuck into the spare bedroom last week and transferred my sleeping body to his bedroom just in the midnight, I have grown accustomed to calling it mine.

I take my phone from the nightstand, take off my flats, and go into bed. Aware that the room is soundproof, I had previously made sure the door was shut. I dial Gabriel's number and hold the phone up to my ear as I wait for him to answer. ''Amanda.'' My tummy starts to flutter as his deep, rich voice comes through the speaker. "Are you alright? You're already at home, and I'm good. The guards are outside, I'm in our room, and I'm not agitated. I tuck my feet beneath the blankets while he giggles. "Good. What about telling me whatever happened to Barbara today?"
"Ugh! She screamed so loudly about how you are hers and how she was meant to become Luna that she almost ruptured my eardrums. She then started threatening me, so I deflated her ego." I gloat while remembering my remarks. "She has to learn a lesson about not harassing my mate." I have to say. I can't help but notice the threat of torment in his threatening snarl. "She'll fit right in if you put her on trash-picking duty, I'm sure of it!" His soft giggle emanates from the speaker, and my insides are warmed by the comforting sound. "Your Highness, I'll see how Much I can manage."
"You need to!" I teasingly point out the blanket's wavy patterns. "What other thing did you do today?" "Nothing much; I simply left this place to go play a game in the pack home where I defeated Paloma, then I returned here." I make the decision to wait before asking him about what I overheard in the pack house. " But, um, today someone came." But, um, today someone came." "Who did —?" It was then that the door opens and Charlie enters like he owns the place, I tune Gabriel out. His hazel eyes spot me on the bed, and he smiles as he approaches. I really need this man to get the message and let me be. "What on earth would you be doing up here, lovely? Come with me; we're going to the movies."
"You can't be serious." I cringe as Gabriel growls on the other end of the phone. I give him a courteous grin and tell him I'll be right down. As I hold the phone to my ear as I wait for him to depart, I overhear Gabriel cursing at his cousin." "How in the world did he get there? and why would he be in our bedroom and when did he arrive? '' "He's came in here and it seems, to spend some time with his younger family members. He was present when I returned from the pack house about an hour ago, and just as I was going to inform you, he entered the room. ''
