Chapter 35

Knight
It took seconds for us to find the source of the gunshots and I ran toward the source, determined to take down whoever had shot at us.
Lucian had dropped to his knees beside Aurora putting pressure on the wounds as Nash ran into the house to protect Kason.
I kept having to push the image of Aurora’s body jerking with each bullet she took. I silently prayed that Nash would get help here quickly to save her and our baby.
I found one target on loading his gun and took him out with a bullet between his eyes. I wasn’t bothering with being quiet, I wanted these guys to know that I was coming for them. They had not only shot my mate, but they had also seen her being vulnerable with us. And no one got to see her that way but us.
I could hear another target ahead of me rushing through the trees. I grabbed my knife from its holster and threw it, grinning as I heard the thud of the target hitting the ground and the moan of pain. I quickly ran ahead and put pressure on his back, “How many of you are there.” I ground out as I pushed the knife deeper into his spine.
“Fuck stop man, there was just two of us, please stop.” He cried. I grinned, and pulled zip ties out of my pocket, locking his wrist together. Ignoring his cries of pain as I jerked him up and forced him to walk in front of me. I was going to enjoy breaking him. But it would have to wait until I made sure my mate was okay. Her part of the bond was silent, and I knew it was because her body had shut down from the pain.
I cleared the tree line and found Lucian still holding pressure to her wounds, he looked up and nodded as he saw me walking one of the gunmen toward the house. “I’m putting him in the basement,” I say as Nash walks out.
“Ambo will be here in two minutes get him stashed.” He says as he takes over from Lucian.
I nodded as I pushed him into the house and down the stairs and into one of the many cells that Aurora had built into the house when she had moved in. I threw him onto the cot and quickly grabbed the med kit and the quick clot and poured it into the wound causing him to scream in agony before passing out.
That would keep him from bleeding out before I could get information out of him. I was determined that we would find out who they were and what they were after.
I ran back outside just as the EMT’s rounded the corner of the house and rushed over to where the guys were. Nash had to physically restrain Lucian as the EMT’s took over. Finding her pulse they nodded and quickly packed the wounds with gauze before sliding her onto the stretcher.
I pulled out my phone and shot a text to Lena, who was with Kason in the panic room in his closet. That it was clear and that they were safe but that we were going to the hospital to wait for news on Aurora.
We rushed through the doors of the emergency room. I slammed my hand down on the desk and got the nurses attention, “Our mate, Aurora was brought in a few minutes ago.”
She pursed her lips as she looked at the screen in front of her, typing quickly.
She nodded, “Yes, she was brought in with two gun shot wounds one in each shoulder, it looks like they are going to take her to surgery in a few minutes. Do any of you know anything about her medical history.”
“She’s pregnant,” Nash says before laying a folder in front of the nurse. “We just had a meeting with her current doctors a few days ago about her care. Here is all her information, including medications, and previous surgeries.”
She smiled up at him, “You wouldn’t happen to have her insurance cards as well.”
He nods at the folder, “Top page. Includes her birthday and address for billing purposes. Anything that the insurance doesn’t cover will come directly to us, Pack Wolfe.”
She relaxes her shoulders, “She’s lucky to have such attentive mates. Let me get all of this into the system then I will walk you three up to the surgical waiting room. The doctors will meet you there and discuss any information.”
We nod and I wrap my arm around Nash from the side, “Thank fuck for you.”
Lucian just drops into a chair and his knee starts bouncing as he focuses on the nurse. I know nothing I can say is going to stop him from blaming himself for not seeing the shooters himself. For having put her in the position to being seen by someone else. But he wasn’t to blame.
The nurse quickly inputs all the information and signals for us to follow her. We take the elevator up to the third floor and then walk into an empty waiting room with a tv softly playing in the background and another tv that only had Aurora’s name on the screen and the words Preop beside it.
A doctor walked in moments later and sat us down, “We have read through her chart and found that she is pregnant. The surgery we are about to do will not harm the baby at all. The bullet wounds were not in her shoulder as we first suspected but to her arms on both sides in the flabby tissue there. We are going to go in and make sure that there aren’t any bullet fragments left then close her up. We will be keeping her for a few days to make sure no infections will set up. We will be watching for things like MERSA, also known as staff. We don’t want this to set up in her joints or bones because it could become septic very quickly which could harm the baby. Right now, all you can do is pray.”
We nod as he gets up and walks out the door. Now we wait.
