Chapter 58

Knight

I could feel everything while I checked in with Aroura’s security staff. I cloaked my feelings through the bond and focused on what was going on in front of me.
“A has us stationed every fifteen feet we rotate in three shifts; we all live on site. During the hiring process, A did background checks on every one of us, also personality tests, and walked us through her goal. We all have been vetted in ways most people wouldn’t go as far as doing. She had Jaxon come up to us acting as someone against her to see who is loyal to her, if he finds a weak link, she has allowed me to take care of them for her.”
He looks around watching the different men patrol, “A, has helped so many people, some we know were sent to you across the country, but she has also helped some of us find our scent matched mates, quite by accident. Those of us who have been lucky enough to find our mates because of her, yeah, we are beyond loyal. We are determined to help her in any way we can pay her back for bringing our whole world to us.”
I nod pushing my hand through my hair, “can you walk me through your protocol if you are breached.”
He nods and pulls out a tablet, pulling up a tab that says Breach protocol, “these are only accessible via a warm fingerprint scan, so that means no one can access unless the person is alive. We have ten separate protocols so no one knows for sure which will be followed at any given time. One of the ways to get A out of here is through the tunnels that the house was built on. One of the tunnels leads directly to the airport, which she uses quite often.”
I laugh, of fucking course she did.
He laughed, “Yeah, we knew all about you but was told to wait to help her in the long run. It was frustrating for those of us who hadn’t met their mates yet, they couldn’t understand why at first why she didn’t have you with her, then as they met their mates, seen the trauma, and had to help work through the mental, emotional aspects. I still don’t know how she did it alone.”
He coughed and looked at me, “Option 2 is tunnel that leads to an undisclosed location. No one knows where it is other than A herself. Option three is safe rooms that she had built into every single room of the house. The only people who have the access codes. Is myself and A.”
“Why did Aroura choose you as someone to trust with this information?” I ask crossing my arms. Staring him down.
He laughs, “I honestly have no clue, I met my scent matched mate out of the first group of Omega’s and Alpha’s we had found, and was pulled into a pack, we wasn’t preformed. We grew around what she needed. One of the Alpha’s in our pack had been with her, being tortured for the last year, forced to take her against both of their wishes. It has been a long ass road the last nine months. However, with all the help A has sent to us and everyone else. We couldn’t have helped them without her, we would have never found them without her.”
I nodded, “Yeah that sounds like my girl, she would give the shirt off her back if it mean’s saving someone else.”
He nods, “You aren’t wrong. Option four is a hidden cellar in the nursery that has access to security camera’s and only opens to A’s fingerprint on either side of the door. All these options includes the safety of everyone on the estate. Option five is a little harder to describe. There is a fireplace inside the house that has a false wall behind it with bullet proof protection. However, only A knows the location. Option six is actually her idea of a joke. In the library there is a bookshelf that opens to a huge room that isn’t plotted on any blueprints. It also has bullet proof protection and is actually a reinforced bomb shelter.”
“Holy fuck.” I say my eyes widening at each option. She wasn’t playing games with these fuckers.
“Option seven is the most dangerous, there is a tunnel that leads out to the other side of the gate. It gives us a hidden advantage to come up behind an enemy and take them out that way.” He coughs, “Option eight is a tornado shelter on the back end of the grounds, it has enough food and water stored for three hundred people for ten days. Option nine was created just in case of floods. We haven’t had major flooding since Hurricane Helene, if the house falls, there is what is essentially a submarine where everyone can get into and make it through anything from floods to a full tactical attack. Option ten is surrender, which none of us will do.”
I look at the man and nod, “You guys are prepared.”
“No not us, her, we just implement what she has prepared.”
I nod, “Yeah, that’s my girl, she would want to be safe after what she went through before.”
He nods, “She is one tough cookie. You can tell she’s been miserable, but she never lets it break her.”
I slap him on the back and start to walk around the perimeter. I open the curtain to the bond again and try not to laugh at the feeling of Aroura just passed out, content and at peace. I could feel my brothers’ smug satisfaction.
I know I should be up there with her, but I just need to see with my own eyes that everything is secure. I had to see for myself that she was safe. Not having been there to protect her this last year, not knowing where she was, it has driven me insane. I take a deep breath and exhale as I hear footsteps coming my way.
“You missed the best reunion with out mate.” Lucian said as he walked up.
I barked a laugh, “Oh trust me, I felt it.”
He smirks and falls into step with me as I make my way around the yard.
“Fuck man, to be able to even touch her with what she went through, she was terrified that she would have a panic attack. However, she let us ease her through everything. Before we got to the spice, she broke down. Man, I wish you had been there with us. She became so overwhelmed from not being near us, and her choices.”
“We have to make sure she knows we don’t blame her for walking away even if it hurt us.” I say.
“Yeah, well earlier wasn’t how it should have gone, but we definitely have to reiterate that she did the right thing, and that we will always have her back.”
