Chapter 44
Lucian
The wait was excruciating. Not having any control over what was happening. Nash had gotten back about an hour ago, but I couldn’t take my eyes off of the doors in front of me. Knight was sitting against the chair on the floor, his eyes locked waiting for news.
I took a sharp breath as Dr. Gwen walked in. She wiped her eyes and walked up to us.
She took a deep breath, “When we opened her up, there was more damage that what we expected. We did everything we could, but we were unable to save her.”
“No!” Knight cried as Nash dropped to the ground in front of her. I stood there in shock. My body feeling broken at this news. This couldn’t be right? Our mate couldn’t be dead. We’d feel it. We would know.
“I’m so sorry, I thought we could save her, but the damage was so extensive.” She wipes her eyes and looks to the down and to the right.
I tilt my head and watch her closely. Something wasn’t right. She was lying to us. But why? Why would she. Then it hit me. Aroura had asked her to. But why would she want to.
“She asked you to lie.” I say, causing the doctor to jump back.
“what?” Nash asks standing back up, “There’s no.”
“She’s planning to run.” Knight whispers.
“No please, Don’t make me break my word. Please.”
“What did she tell you?” I bark standing over her.
She turns her head to the side and looks up at Nash, she sobs, “She wanted me to tell you that I died on the table. She said she needed this so she could hide. She said that you can no longer keep her safe. If the world thinks she’s really dead, they’ll stop coming after them. Lena and Jaxon are the only ones in her standing will that can take Kason. They know if something happens to her that they are to take him and run. She has just lost your child; she was brutally raped and forced into a bond. She was terrified that she couldn’t survive with you.”
Nash nods, pushing his glasses up, “Do a press release saying that she has died. I’m going to call our private jet to be prepared to take off. We will send her and Kason away with Lena and Jaxon, just until we get everything cleared up. We will need you and your pack to go with her.”
“No, we cant just send her away!” Knight yells.
“We have to do what is right for her.” I say.
“We are what is right for her!” Knight barks. “We can keep her safe. We can protect her. We will fight for her.”
“She needs time to heal.” Nash says calmly.
“She can heal with us! She has to be with us. She can’t just walk away! We are a pack! We are mates. She makes us stronger, just like we make her stronger. No I do not agree that we send her away. She can stay here. She can face this with us by her side.”
“Knight, you aren’t taking in what she wants!” Nash says.
“No I am thinking that our mate is terrified about what she just experienced and feels like she needs to run, she feels like this is her fault and that pretending she is dead again is what is going to keep her safe.”
I push my hands through my hair.
“Just stop.” I bark.
“We aren’t going to let her leave, but we are going to do the rest of what Nash mentioned.” I nod at the doctor, “We will have our helicopter piolet land upstairs. We will have you and your pack move into the house with us for a few months. We trust you with Arouras life. Obviously, she trusts you too or she wouldn’t have asked you to do this. Next, we will issue the statement that she died from the injuries from what happened to her. We will then do what we do best. We will finish this. We will make sure she is safe. But we aren’t letting our mate go anywhere.”
Knight nods as the doctor looks at us, “Are you sure you want all of us to move?” she starts.
“That’s the only way we will be able to keep her safe. There is no way we could keep her being alive hidden if we had you coming and going day after day.”
She nods and pulls her cell out of her pocket, turning her back to us she talks into her phone explaining to her pack what is going on.
Less than five minutes later she turns back to us, “They agreed.”
“Good,” I nod, “We will send a car to them in about four hours. Now, I know that Aroura is still knocked out, so our next goal is to get her transferred to our home.”
She nods and agrees, “we will get everything prepared to get her up to the helicopter, give us another hour.”
I nod and turn to my brothers, “Nash, go to the grocery store and pick up as much as you can to start our haul at home. I would suggest going to Sams or Costco. We will definitely need things in bulk. Knight, call in our team and have them start patrolling our grounds. I then need you to call Lena and have her set up for Dr. Gwen’s pack to stay. And an area for Aroura to stay while she is healing. The pack bedroom is upstairs, and I don’t feel like that is safe for her for now. So see if she can put us in one of the downstairs bedrooms with an attached nest for her if she needs it. All the packages that Aroura had picked out should have arrived by now and have her put them in the attached nest. I want you to go with Nash as well.”
He nods and pulls out his phone calling Lena immediately and gives her our instructions.
Nash glares at me before nodding. “We’ll take the SUV and load up on everything. Knight ask her to send us what she would need to make some easy meals that we can grab.”
Knight nods and grins as his phone starts buzzing against his cheek as he talks to Lena. “She’s sending me texts with some things to grab.”
“Good, now I will fly out with Aroura and meet you guys at the house.”
“are you sure this is what we need to do?” Nash asks softly.
“Yes, because I’m not letting her go.”
He nods and they leave the room. I tilt my head back and look at the ceiling, “Fuck I hope I made the right choice.” I say as I wait for the doctor to come back and take me upstairs with Aroura and her to the helipad. I wasn’t going to let our girl go. Even if it pissed her off.
