CHAPTER 11
The bedroom was filled with a warm glow as the early morning sun filtered through the curtains. Bruce's firm chest against her back and his strong arm around her waist were the first things Amelia noticed as she slowly stirred. Recollections of the night before filled her mind, causing a smile to tug at her lips.
She moved a little, making an effort to look up at Bruce without waking him. His eyes were already open, watching her with a tenderness that made her heart skip a beat, so it was a pointless attempt.
Bruce grumbled, his voice still husky from sleep, "Good morning."
Amelia grinned more broadly. "Good morning," she said, tracing the firm contour of his jaw with her hand. "Are you sleeping well?"
In response, Bruce drew her in closer and nuzzled into the nape of her neck. "More than I have felt in years," he whispered against her flesh.
The touch sent a shiver down Amelia's spine. She was still in awe of how swiftly their relationship had transformed after they had finally shared their emotions. She was left breathless by the intense intimacy that had replaced the tension that had simmered for months.
Her toes curled as Bruce's lips found hers in a slow, deep kiss. Upon their eventual separation, Amelia burst out laughing, as they were both a little out of breath.
"What makes it so humorous?" Bruce raised an eyebrow in question.
Amelia shook her head, amusement glimmering in her eyes. "Really, nothing. I'm just... happy. Happier than I ever thought I could be."
Bruce's smile came over him; it was a beautiful, rare thing. Gently brushing a strand of hair from her face, he said, "As am I." "Amelia, you have restored brightness to my existence. I doubt I will ever be able to express my gratitude to you enough for that."
Emotion surged through Amelia. She was aware of how challenging it was for Bruce to be so honest about his emotions. She could not express how much it meant to her that he was at ease enough to do so.
She did not respond; instead, she leaned in for another kiss, giving it her wholehearted devotion. With great anticipation, Bruce reached down to her hip and pulled her close to him.
As usual, the heat rapidly increased between them. Amelia was astounded by how easily Bruce could move over her body and how well their fit seemed to be. Every touch and kiss felt familiar and comforting.
Amelia gasped as Bruce's lips moved down her neck and she ran her fingers through his hair. "Bruce, we really ought to get up," she sighed. The pack-"
Bruce gave her a playful growl and gave her collarbone a light bite. "The pack can wait." "I want to concentrate on my partner right now."
Amelia felt a thrill at hearing the word "mate." Even though they had been spending time together for weeks, she was still occasionally overcome by the depth of their connection. The mate bond hummed between them, intensifying each feeling and thought.
Amelia gave in to the urge that was racing through her body and let Bruce touch her. His lips and hands appeared to be everywhere at once, meticulously charting every square inch of her body. She curved towards him, her hands caressing the firm surfaces of his chest, following the scars that chronicled his life as Alpha.
When they did get together, it was with an almost desperate passion. Bruce moved inside of Amelia as she clung to him, her nails dragging down his back. Their surroundings gradually vanished, leaving only the two of them, engrossed in a personal realm of enjoyment and intimacy.
Afterward, as they lay entwined, content and panting, Amelia experienced a calmness that enveloped her. This was her place, in Bruce's arms, in this pack, in this life she never thought she would have but now found irreplaceable.
Bruce kissed her gently on the forehead. He whispered, "I love you," in a tone that only a select few people outside of this room would ever hear.
The words made Amelia's heart skip a beat. "I love you too," she replied, snuggling closer. "More than I ever thought possible."
They continued to hug and kiss each other tenderly for some time, neither of them wanting to end the moment's enchantment. But eventually reality started to get in the way.
Reluctantly, Amelia said, "This time, we really should get up." "Remember that meeting we had with the council this morning?"
Bruce buried his face in her hair and moaned. Why do not we just stay here all the time?
Playfully pushing at his chest, Amelia laughed. "Go on, Alpha. You are needed by your pack. And I need a shower."
Bruce's eye took on a mischievous glint. "A shower, you say? It is my responsibility as your friend to see to it that you are well taken care of."
Amelia's laughter echoed off the walls as Bruce picked her up in his arms and carried her towards the bathroom before she could object—not that she really wanted to.
---
An hour later, freshly showered and dressed, Bruce and Amelia made their way to the pack house's main hall. As they walked, hand in hand, Amelia couldn't help but notice the way other pack members reacted to their presence.
Where once there had been skepticism and even hostility towards her, now she saw smiles and respectful nods. It seemed that her dedication to the pack, combined with Bruce's obvious happiness, had won over even her harshest critics.
As they entered the council chamber, the assembled elders rose to greet them. Amelia felt a surge of pride as she took her place beside Bruce at the head of the table. She had earned this position, not just through her relationship with Bruce, but through her own hard work and determination.
The meeting proceeded smoothly, with discussions ranging from territory expansion to new education initiatives for the younger pack members. Amelia contributed several ideas, her unique perspective as a former outsider providing valuable insights.
Throughout the meeting, she was acutely aware of Bruce's presence beside her. His hand would occasionally brush against hers under the table, or he would shoot her a proud smile when she made a particularly good point. These small gestures of affection and support meant the world to her.
As the meeting drew to a close, Elder Thorne addressed them both. "Alpha, Luna, if I may speak freely?"
Bruce nodded, his expression curious. "Of course, Elder. What's on your mind?"
The old werewolf's eyes twinkled as he looked between them. "I just wanted to say how pleased we all are to see the two of you so... in harmony. Your bond has brought a new energy to the pack, a sense of hope and progress that we haven't seen in many years."
Amelia felt a blush creep up her cheeks at the praise. Bruce squeezed her hand gently, a small smile playing at his lips.
"Thank you, Elder Thorne," Bruce replied. "Amelia has indeed brought many positive changes to our pack. We are fortunate to have her as our Luna."
The warmth in Bruce's voice as he spoke about her made Amelia's heart swell. She still sometimes found it hard to believe how far they'd come – from a cold, contractual arrangement to this deep, abiding love.
As they left the council chamber, Bruce pulled Amelia into a quiet alcove. Before she could ask what he was doing, he captured her lips in a passionate kiss that left her breathless.
"What was that for?" she asked when they finally broke apart, her voice slightly dazed.
Bruce's eyes were intense as he gazed at her. "For being you," he said simply. "For making me a better Alpha, a better man. For loving me despite all my flaws."
Amelia reached up to cup his cheek, her thumb tracing his cheekbone. "Loving you isn't hard, Bruce," she said softly. "It's as natural as breathing."
They shared another tender kiss before reluctantly parting to attend to their respective duties for the day. As Amelia watched Bruce stride away, every inch the powerful Alpha, she felt a rush of pride and love. This complicated, sometimes difficult man was hers, just as she was his. Whatever challenges lay ahead, they would face them together.
---
The day passed in a blur of activity. Amelia found herself bouncing from one task to another – mediating a dispute between two young wolves, reviewing plans for the new community center, and even taking time to visit the pack's daycare to read stories to the pups.
As evening approached, she made her way back to the pack house, looking forward to a quiet dinner with Bruce. She had just reached the main entrance when a commotion near the forest's edge caught her attention.
Curious, she changed direction, heading towards the source of the disturbance. As she drew closer, she recognized Bruce's imposing figure standing with Beta Elijah. The two men were engaged in an intense discussion, their bodies tense and expressions grave.
Amelia hesitated, not wanting to interrupt what was an important conversation. But before she could decide whether to approach or retreat, Bruce's head snapped up, his nostrils flaring as he caught her scent.
"Amelia," he called out, his voice strained. "Come here, please."
As she drew closer, Amelia could see the worry etched on Bruce's face. Beta Elijah looked equally troubled, his usual easygoing demeanor replaced by a seriousness that sent a chill down her spine.
"What's going on?" she asked, looking between the two men. "Has something happened?"
Bruce and Elijah exchanged a loaded glance before Bruce turned back to her. "Elijah has discovered something... concerning," he said carefully. "Something that could have significant implications for our pack."
Amelia's mind raced with possibilities, each more alarming than the last. "What is it? Are we in danger?"
Bruce put his hand over hers and gave her a comforting squeeze. Not in immediate peril, no. However, this knowledge... alters the situation. We must talk about the next steps."
Elijah apologized as he cleared his throat. Sorry, Luna, but I believe it would be best if I had a private conversation with the Alpha first. Before we can distribute this to the rest of the pack, we must confirm a few details."
Even though a part of her wanted to object and demand answers right away, Amelia recognized the necessity of exercising caution. She squeezed Bruce's hand in return and nodded. "Obviously. I comprehend.
Bruce gazed at her, love and gratitude beaming from the bottom of his eyes. "My love, I appreciate your understanding. I will get back to you as soon as I can with all the information. For now, how about you have dinner first? As soon as I can, I will join you."
Amelia gave a nod and reached up to gently plant a kiss on Bruce's cheek. "Aim not to speak too much," she muttered. "And keep in mind that we will face this together, whatever it is."
Amelia could not get rid of the feeling that their lives were about to take a sharp turn once more as she made her way back towards the pack house. But with the love of Bruce still shining in his eyes, she felt prepared to take on any obstacles that were in her way. They could conquer anything together.
Bruce and Elijah were back behind her, talking deeply, their voices urgent and low as they tried to process the enormity of Elijah's revelation. As the sun began to set, the pack grounds were covered in long shadows that gave the impression that nature was holding its breath, ready for whatever lay ahead.
