CHAPTER 79

You are the link between the three realms,’ Elijah whispered. It was werewolf strength and instinct melded with mage intelligence and magic In the right owner you could broker a truce between our peoples In the wrong hands . . .

“I could start a war,” said Amelia, softly.

This knowledge weighed her down just as a thick garment weighing on the wearer’s shoulders and chest could do. Throughout her existence, she had been feeling like she did not belong anywhere. Now she knew why. Still, comprehension does not relieve the pressure of that weight that sometimes may fall to one’s lot.

When she had exhausted all questions about the photos she asked them, “So what do we do now?” Others are more aggressive and scared, “How do we stop these people from coming after me?”

Hearing this Sarah moved closer and assumed a more formal look on her face. ‘We wage war; we constantly defend, we strategize, we create partnerships and help you stand till you are ready to confront them on your turf’.

Elijah nodded in agreement. ‘Sarah is right,’ he said, ‘Running and hiding is not the solution. To control it, you have to master them, you have to hone the extent of your powers.

Amelia cringed at the thought of that. And yet this is what I was lacking: But what if I can’t? What if I am not strong enough?

Rosa reached for her hand and held it kindly. ‘You are strong enough, sweetheart. You are my daughter, after all. ’ From anywhere in that cabin one could see the hint of a proud mother sparkle in her eyes and it made Amelia’s heart burst with joy.

“And you won’t be alone,” Bruce added his deep voice making her feel better. ‘You now have the pack backing you and it seems you also have your team of rogues’.

Amelia searched the room with her eyes to view the people for what she thought was the first time. They were not only shields or friends. Technically they were strangers, connected by some random event but they were a family now.

She inhaled, standing tall. “Alright,” she said and tried to sound as calm as she could despite the way her thoughts raced through her mind. "Where do we start?"

Elijah had a slight grin on his face. Next up, we have training, proper training at last, Total training that isn’t half-baked of held back because the powers that be are afraid of what we may become. ”

Perfect, Amelia nodded and she could not help but feel both scared and exhilarated at the same time. "And then?"

‘And then,’ continued Sarah, a fierce grin appearing on her lips, ‘we go to them and make them regret it – making you a target means making all of us one’.

When they were putting down strategies and making more plans, Amelia was overwhelmed by a kind of serenity. It would be tough going from here on; it was a path of danger, an unknown road. A feeling that she maintained she had not felt in the past years before she joined the club she now belongs to.

When they were separated into different groups, she glanced at Elijah, and a single moment was enough to say a hundred things. But there was so much more to talk about in this unprecedented situation, forgiveness to be asked and to be given. However, at that moment, Amelia was sure that no matter what was in the great unknown waiting for them, they would go through it hand in hand.

When the meal was over and the talking began to get down to business, Amelia got up and went outside to the back porch of the cabin. Such was the heat within the room, the cool air outside was quite refreshing.

She felt the cool night air on her face and she gazed at the stars wondering how her life had turned right side up in a few hours only. The normal life that she had been so eager to get back into now sounded incredibly unattainable, so childish.

But when she is standing there, trying to catch some of the whispers coming from inside: her mother’s tender voice, Elijah’s strict tone, Sarah'ps jokes – Amelia understands one thing. She might never have a normal life, but she had something far more precious: a purpose, and people that would support her come what may.

Taking a big gulp of air she returned into the cabin and was preparing to meet all possible challenges. For the first time in a long time, Amelia had a speck of hope as she looked at her future. It no longer matters if the woman was fleeing the truth about herself. It was high time for her to be herself, to be the creature – that she was destined to be.

With her hand on the knob, there was a newfound whisper of a smile on Amelia’s face. Whatever came next, one thing was certain: people’s lives were soon going to become markedly more entertaining

The moon was nearly touching a treetop when it began to set, and consequently, there was much darkness: very long shadows crept across the forest floor indicating Ema’s path. She was tired from the recent combat but decided that it was rather less painful than her injured pride. The occurrences that happened at the bookshop and the occurrences in the forest clearing scene went around her head again and again reminding her of her Appalling Failure.

Sadly she could have been one of them, she had been so close. They had been so close to the goal; Amelia had been only within arm’s distance from catching the weapon. And then it had all fallen apart. Elijah’s pack agents, the sinister people who attacked them, the forest combat – everything became a subconscious scene of failure.

Meanwhile, In the scene where Ema finds herself at the site of the rendezvous, she is overwhelmed with evil feelings in her tummy. She was aware of what was in store for her and that is why the disappointment and anger she was to encounter was palpable to her. But there was no one else to turn to. In the circumstances, she was forced to report her failure.

A chasm lay before her and it was night there, but the night which did not have the power to chase away night but rather to devour it. Ema forced herself, opened the door and got a breath of the dark, heavy air which was not refreshing.

“You’re late,” a voice boomed from the darkness and Ema’s spine was covered in goosebumps.

Ema, who knelt on one knee as a sign of respect towards the Ruler fell on her knees and bowed her head. “I’m sorry, Alpha” There were complications that I did not anticipate, Therefore I’m sorry I failed you, Alpha. ”
