CHAPTER 19
CHAPTER 19
Feeling her heart beat so intense, Ema pressed herself against the cool stone wall outside Bruce's study, trying to hear every word of the conversation going on inside. It wasn't in her intention to pry between Bruce and Amelia’s conversation. In an attempt to salvage their dead friendship, she had come to the pack house searching for her old best friend Amelia. had stopped dead in her tracks when she heard the urgency in Bruce's voice as he dragged her into his study.
Now that the startling information was coming to light, Ema could not shake the feeling as though everything around was shifting tremendously.
Amelia, a Hybrid? It did not seem feasible. Ema had been Amelia's friend since childhood and had known her for many years. They had exchanged everything: secrets, dreams, and hopes. Or so she had believed.
As Ema listened keenly to Bruce lay out the circumstances for Amelia, a bitter taste filled her mouth. Amelia had been unique all along. Different. Strong. She was completely unaware of it.
Ema balled her hands into fists by her sides. It wasn't fair. It was she who had grown up daydreaming about the world of werewolves and who had devoured all the myths and stories she could find. It was she who had put in the most effort to establish her value as a member of the pack. And yet Amelia, sweet, gullible Amelia, had waltzed in and taken everything, including the position of Luna, Bruce's heart, and now this amazing heritage.
Ema realized she had to leave when Bruce's voice grew quieter and he began to talk about threats and danger. There was too much to risk being discovered. She moved out of the pack house and away from the study with quiet steps that came from years of practice he/she is caught. She then left the pack house and walked out of the study as sneakily as she was beginning to get accustomed to.
After she came out, the cool evening breeze blew in her face, but it has little to offer when it comes to her chaotic feelings. Ema wandered through the pack grounds she was so lost in thought she barely even acknowledged the courtesy of people giving her a nod in the passing.
She required to discuss this with someone knowing that literally she has been contaminated with this shocking revelation. But to whom? The pack as a whole was rather dedicated to Bruce and Amelia. They could not understand a confusion of emotions that a woman felt, anger, betrayal, jealousy, and a host of other things which was not easy to decipher.
Then she remembered the name of Caroline as the light being switched on in a dark room.
Caroline the former Luna had been unceremoniously demoted when Amelia came into the picture. Caroline knew the taste of losing all that she and her husband have built over they years of hard work. Bruce's mom. Caroline, who never really accepted Amelia as one of the group’s members to begin with.
Ema then marched herself to the small house that Caroline chose to stay at the border of pack territory where she now lived and where Ema found herself regaining her determination. Snippets of the conversation she would overheard run through her mind as she strolled.
You are nothing like a human, actually; You are a chimera.
A very special kind of Hybrid you are, one that has powers you have kept hidden your entire existence.
. .. These lies they try to tell, Amelia, when all they are trying to do is protect you. In order to maintain your anonymity from people seeking Mayhem’s power for their benefit, they employed an old power to distort not only your werewolf but Vampire side as well. "
Each word chided, vexed and worried Ema’s heart like a knife. At the same time, she could easily predict that Amelia was different from other girls, and that is why the two became friends. Although there was a feeling in her that she hated the guts of Amelia but at the same time she can’t live without her. Nevertheless, understanding she was so distinctive and valuable was virtually unendurable.
.
It does not take Ema long to transform her sadness into vengeance, and she now stands at Caroline’s cottage foaming at the mouth. The three loud raps with the handle the knocked three times at night when the night is more silent and still.
There was a short pause after that. After sometime, there was the light sound of the footsteps approaching and the door opened to show Caroline. The previous Luna looked tired, the shine and the joy that was once seen on her face were overshadowed by stress and grief. But as she looked at Ema who was clearly stressed she gave her the looks that could cut through steel.
“Ema?” Caroline was surprised and she could also hear the tone of concern creeping into her voice. ”So, is something bothering you? It is rarely appropriate to visit someone at this time of the day.”
Feeling extremely self-conscious Ema did a quick glance in the back seat before continuing to speak. It was in an even whisper that she spoke, The Ema looked at Caroline and said in a hurry that she wanted to speak to her before adding that it was important about Amelia.
Caroline’s eyes lit up with something, maybe curiosity and maybe a renewed interest of passion which she once had. She step aside and made the door wider for him to come in. "Enter," she commanded. "Tell me everything. "
The door closed behind them and Ema was talking non-stop. Speaking to the caller, she began to walk around the small living room, and she could almost repeat everything the man was saying word for word.
Caroline simply listened to her, and she appeared to look gravely more serious with each detail Michael was detailing to her. When Ema had finished, Caroline sat very straight in her armchair, and in her eyes there was a kind of expression of hatred which was not quite clear to Ema. Caroline was panting and was slightly feeling dizzy.
Caroline, uncharacteristically anxious, immediately sprang further questions, “Are you positive”? ‘Candidly, did you get it right:’
“Yes,I am” Ema agreed with a determined head sway. Every literally single word. Bruce said that Amelia is a Hybrid, and a different kind of strong and special one at that, or so he thought but Amelia was clueless and so were her parents who had somehow masked he powers from her.
Caroline quickly got up from the chair and went to stand by the window. Fixing her gaze into the darkness, she looked at herself in the mirror: it was a contemplation of dual emotions.
”I always had this feeling that something is not quite right about her,” Caroline said more to herself than to anybody else. This is not so believable to me how she quickly adapts to pack life and how Bruce is immediately attracted to her as far as this series goes.
She looked directly at Ema and a look of deadly determination was etched across her face. Ema, can I translate this for you? What might that mean for the Pack? For us?
Ema shrugged her shoulders also feeling rather nervous and uncomfortable about the situation. Caroline had been her last resort of seeking at least solace, if not comprehension. But the older woman was not offering any form of comfort with her facial looks.
Caroline said more, her voice low, ‘That’s what it means, Amelia is powerless.’ Yes, she holds edores, but she doesn’t know how to wield them. She is likely to feel let down by all those people who never saw it fit to share such information with her and feels vulnerable. Bruce included. "
Caroline’s direction was getting obvious to Ema, and now she was wide awake. “You think that we could—what? Arrang this for some ulterior use?”
Caroline then gave a demonic look with a hungry grin. “I think Ema that could be our chance to correct things, to bring back the pack and guide it by the rightful Luna.”
