CHAPTER 76
Amelia hesitated for a moment to see him: relief rushed in but was immediately followed by confusion. Very very little of the woman in her was tempted to rush into his arms and feel the safety that she had always felt from his embrace. But the other portion remained fettered, recalling devious and half-sino go in this capacity.
“Get away from her,” Bruce’s voice was a growl and he stepped forward. "Now. "
The attackers paused, which by all indications did not anticipate this new factor. Elijah looked at the wound of the rogues, saw how Sarah stood guard in front of Amelia, and saw the circle of enemies around them.
‘There are more of us,’ one of them shouted, in an attempt to sound confident. ”This does not concern you at all,” and turn around and dismiss her, and everyone will just look the other way and act like the incident never took place.
Bruce smirked as coldly as before and the feeling Amelia got was a creeptingly icy one. She knew that Bruce could fight and had observed the muscles he had at his disposal. But this – this was something else entirely.
‘Outnumbered?’ Bruce said, his tone still surprisingly composed. It is a pathetic statement to say ‘I think you do not know the kind of situation you are really in. ’
In precise response, other beings began to emerge from the sliver of darkness that hugged the edge of the woods. Amelia knew some of them – the members of Elijah’s pack, with whom she communicated while she was with them. Some were unknown to one another but all had the same look of despise determination.
The tide had turned.
What ensued was perhaps one of the most chaos-enabled phenomenons one might ever witness; an affair of sound and colour. Bruce joined in the fight taking down his enemies with ease due to his large size of the man. And it wasn’t just the speed; Elijah glided like he was en pointe, which only made his combat prowess all the more terrifying; it was choreographed violence.
It was clear that they had rehearsed this several times; the pack was well-coordinated, and those not actively hunting watched the others’ blind spots and acted as if linked mentally. It was almost like watching a clock and even a wheel that had been set into motion and the one aim of them all was to accomplish the mission that had been set before them.
Inspired by this, Ema and her rogues found new strength and vigor as they moved for the second phase of the battle. They were not prepared to give up, and therefore, they had to defend themselves with all their might.
Amelia stared at Elijah as he waded through the sea of people cutting through them to get to her. He looked at her and she at him and for a moment it was as if the rest of the enemies did not exist.
How about organizational needs and issues to which people turn when they have so much they want to say; or so many questions that want answers? But for now, the man’s presence was enough to make her feel her heart flutter to her stomach and back up to her throat.
In as much as it had started, the fight was now concluded. The remaining attackers saw that there was no way that they could defeat the defenders and they retreated to the forest. Bruce followed their exit with the obvious intent of chasing them, but a stern call from Elijah restrained him.
Silence enveloped the clearing and only the sounds of heavy panting of the fighters and the sounds of hurt from the wounded men interrupted this silence.
Elijah walked up to her slowly, still gripping the arms of one of the attackers, his focus on her face. He got to her then and dropped down beside her, His face was a blend of relief and concern.
‘Are you okay?’ he murmured, his fingers not quite touching her face.
With a fair amount of difficulty, Amelia managed to nod her head, she could not speak as her emotions filled her up. And there was so much she disliked to stay silent and so many feelings that were clashing inside her. However, Ema was faster and before she could say you are welcome a voice interrupted her.
“As heartwarming a family reunion may be,” she said, her voice near a snarl, “we have every right to ask some questions. ” Namely, she glanced at Bruce, “Who were they and why the hell do they want from me?”
His face tensed up as he stood seeing the group, Elijah looked at them with an unwelcoming glare. Bruce joined him, standing side by side with him, in what could be described as a show of solidarity.
“Well, that is correct,” Elijah commented, and his tone was audible at the clearing. ‘You all deserve answers’ he said, ‘But this is not the place. We need to find somewhere safe and treat those who were wounded. Then we will tell you the rest. ’
Both Bruce and Elijah looked at Ema, the rage and hate could be seen on their faces, just as Elijah wanted to rip her throat out, Amelia stepped in and protected her. "Not now, Elijah. Not now"
Ema looked like she wanted to fight back, but a hand on her arm from Lucas and his strong gaze made her bow her head. She nodded reluctantly.
When the rest of the group started regaining their composure and their next course of action, Amelia started feeling sleepy. The energy from the chase and fighting process was fading away, she just wanted to sit, and she did.
Elijah must have sensed that she pulling a long shift because he was suddenly standing in front of her with his hand out. ‘Aww come on,’ he encouraged softly. ‘This is the best place for you’ Wicked witch ‘No it’s not and let’s get you out of here. ’
The desire and anticipation reflected in Bruce could not be hidden and Amelia did not take long to decide to take his hand. When he pulled her up, she was still under the impression that this was only as far as this was concerned. All that which had been hidden from her or had not been explained to her, all the possible threats that may still surround them, she realized that everything was going to change after tonight.
And as they stepped out of the clearing Amelia turned around for the last time. The forest which had been the theater of fighting was looking beautiful and charming in the light of the moon. But appearances, she was now realizing, are more often than not very deceptive.
She took a good deep breath and swung round again, forward, looking at what lay in front of her, determined to whatever next was coming. The truth, no matter how unpalatable it might be, was out there for her to get. And this time, she was bent on getting it all from him.
