CHAPTER 66

CHAPTER 66

The words that were said were only getting worse and there was no going back once those words were spoken. Kevin leaned back in his chair and stared at her stunned. After a silence that can be described as tensely pregnant, neither of them had the urge to break the silence.

“All this time” Kevin managed to clear his throat and speak at last. These words filled with disbelief can also be used to express that people can keep lots of secrets over many years.

Rosa could not help but tear up. ”I’m so sorry for wanting to preserve you, to preserve Michael,” she tells him, tears springing to her eyes, “I thought leaving that life behind, not talking about it, would make it remain in the past. But today when Elijah came…”

“You think something’s happened to Amelia,” Kevin paraphrased her, as comprehension registered on his features.

Acting in response to the cue Rosa gave, Maria said softly, ‘Exactly" Rosa nodded, a sob rising in her breast. ‘No, there is more than that, Elijah wouldn’t have come here for nothing and something is not right, I know. ’

Kevin passed his hand across his face as he looked to be in deep shock as he tried to process all the knowledge that he had gained. “Rosa, this is… it is so much. Werewolves, vampires, hybrids… It sounds like a fairytale. ”

“I know,” Rosa said in rather low tones. “Yes, it is the truth, all of it. ”

This was followed by rather a weighty pause between them. Rosa looked at Kevin apprehensively; her heart pounding with trepidation. Could this be the end of all they have strived for as a couple and as partners in a business? Would he still see her as a woman or consider her just a social worker now that he had been exposed to the gruesome details of her life?

So, Kevin steepled his hands and said in a gentle voice holding Rosa’s hand across the table: He frowned and spoke slowly as though he did not understand all the things that had been said, but he did not need to understand that, he just had to do what he was being told to do. “And I am… I am offended that you didn’t tell me this for so long Rosa, but Rosa I love you, we are family we will do whatever this is, whatever is going on we will go through it together. ”

A feeling of relief immediately came over Rosa and she started to cry again. “You mean that?” she broke and her voice shook.

Kevin nodded, and holding her hand he said something. “Yes, I do. But no more secrets Rosa. I want all of it- everything from now on. ”

Rosa looked at her and nodded; a sense of relief washed over her even as new anxiety flooded in. "Thank you," she whispered. “I did not want to bother you, I am sorry that I did not tell you this earlier. ”

“We will get through it,” Kevin said to her. “But right now we have to try and concentrate on Amelia If something has happened to her…. ”

”We have to learn what Elijah knows,” Rosa concluded, and her tone was more assertive now, the fear replaced by the resolve.

She became confused and abruptly turned to Kevin. "Okay Kevin?” he nodded slightly, his lips slightly curved upward although the circumstances were serious. ‘‘Well, do I need to run to the store to get some silver bullets or something?’’

Nevertheless, she laughed and that was the scene that unfolded before her eyes – Rosa as she was stripped of her name, and reduced to just a body. “That is Hollywood rubbish,” she replied, at least appreciating her husband’s effort to be cheerful. “But we may face some of the rather peculiar tasks. ”

This time, though fear was fighting with hope deep inside of her, Rosa started to discuss the possible further actions with her partner. The people she used to know and the threats they posed were gradually returning into her life, something she didn’t want anymore. But she wasn’t alone this time and despite her every effort she couldn’t help comparing herself to that sable-haired girl with the elegant and slender neck. For the first time in years, the woman experienced a genuine feeling of power standing next to Kevin, facing her past.

Whatever had befallen Amelia, whatever obstacles they were to encounter in the future they would do it together. As a family.

Upstairs Michael went on playing his video game without consciousness of the life-altering discussion that had just occurred. Rosa and Kevin glanced at each other, as both of them were reminded of the conversation they were going to have with their son.

But that was setting the ball for a trial for another day. For now, it was time to get their daughter back and time to deal once more with the supernatural world. However, she did not mention to Kevin that he was not the real father of the Baby.

Meanwhile, Seattle’s active nightlife is illuminated by neon signs putting up a strange brightness of dark alleys and the shining rain. Among numerous guests celebrating and people who were going from club to club, three people stood out as businessmen carefully observing their surroundings. These were no wild party animals who were out to have the time of their lives. They were hunters, predators on the prowl.

Lucas, the leader of this small pack of rogues, looked up, still in his mid-fifties but had the build of a lion he lifted his head a bit and sniffed the air. Lifting his gaze to look at the trail, his large eyes, which had a slightly ethereal light to them, grew small with determination.

“This way,” he said in a low tone to Mara and Dex, his friends.

The three partners did not waste time on the dancing and began to actively probe, and act like hunters with their prey. They had been hunting for weeks, considering all the leads, all the rumors, all minor clues regarding their prey’s whereabouts. And now, for the first time, between their guises, a gulf yawned, yes, they were near, very near.

For Ema had given them the Ultimatum, "FIND AMELIA OR DON'T COME BACK AGAIN"
