CHAPTER 20

Ema warmed in delight at Caroline’s remarks. A true Luna. Yes, that was her lifetime ambition, was it not? What she would give all the brightness of her mind to? But it was Amelia in question here. She had seemed so innocent when she had came as a bride to the Alpha. But now that her true colour had shown, there had to be a way to tackle her and everything she stood for.

But there was a soft, persistent voice in her head saying ‘Be careful’. They were referring to this Amelia.

Caroline loosed a controlled smile at Ema but the shrewd glint in her eyes remained discernibly hostile. “Oh, Ema. Shut up, don’t you realize that Amelia is not the friend you have known for such time now, she has been telling lies – to you, to us, maybe even subconsciously, she is not like us, she is an abomination!’

A quick look to the face rendered Ema feel uncomfortable by the words that were just used; all along she had been feeling as though she is left out, or rather replaced by Amelia.

Besides, Caroline spoke in a calm tone and added, “We would not be harming her.” On the contrary, we’d be helping her. Our introduction to her and showing her what she is really all about and her place in society. Oh, do you not think that she needs to be told all of this? Amelia, is such a stripper that fully understanding the extent of her talents is impossible to achieve? "

Then it did not sound all that terrible when it was said like that. And gradually, she nodded in realization of the fact that Caroline has virtually been able to sweep her off her feet along with all her skepticism.

“Ideas?” Ema asked, her nerves getting the better of her and at the same time anticipation overwhelmed her.

Caroline smiled even more widely, her eyes twinkled like she has just won the battle. “First, more information is required. It is crucial to identify Amelia’s actual Hybrid type and perhaps, the powers she possesses.

Secondly, one has to familiarize with the threat Bruce pointed out to her, that is, the thing that is coming right after her.”

She started to pace, her steps deliberate and acute. "Once we have that information, we can begin making plans. Amelia needs to be isolated and taken out of Bruce's and the pack's protective environment. After that, we can assist her in "discovering" who she is."

Ema shrugged off a shiver running down her spine at the way Caroline used the word "discover." She told herself that this was for the pack's benefit. Even though Amelia could not see it at the moment, it was for her good.

"How can we obtain the information?" Ema enquired, her mind already spinning with potential answers. "Elijah and Bruce will now be on high alert. It will be difficult to spy on them.

Caroline laughed softly, almost cruelly. "Oh, sweetheart. You forget that I spent a long time as Luna. I am familiar with every covert corridor and cranny in the pack house where one could listen in on conversations.

Furthermore, I still have wolves for friends in the pack who can recall a time when things were... different."

She proceeded to a tiny writing desk situated in the corner, removing a pen and paper. "This is our plan of action," she declared, starting to scribble a rough map of the pack house. "You will stay near Amelia by using your status as her "friend."

See if you can see any indications of her true self emerging as you watch her. I will go to work getting data from the people in the pack that I trust."

Ema nodded, experiencing a purpose that she had not felt in months. "And after that?"

She began to walk around the room, with her movements precise and vertexical. Once we have that information, we can start thinking of strategies that have to be implemented In the first strategy, Amelia needs to be removed from Bruce’s and the pack’s protective custody then later help her ‘’find herself.’’

Ema tried to shake off a chill that ran down her spine at how Caroline used the word discover Ema, reminding herself it was all for the pack. He said even if Amelia could not see it at the moment, it was for her own good.

However the night advanced and the plan extended, a little voice in Ema’s head asked – which price would this victory cost. The question that remained at the end was — and when all was said and done, could she face herself?

When Ema finally left Caroline’s cottage it was already late at night and the moon was low and Ema had a future ready with many possibilities. The pack house could also be seen in the distance as she strode back to the quarters where she lived. In the room of Bruce to his study he had the light on and for a moment Ema could discern the shadows of the two and their bulky body, two souls in one, who are still recovering from the events of that night.

Ema grew more determined. Everything would change soon. She would have all that she ever wanted very soon.

Their last plan of action that Ema could think of before going to bed that night was the trap they planned to stage. It would be perfect and she would be able to never get it wrong. Amelia is to die at the end there would be no chance for Amelia.

Ema had it in her mind that what she was doing was not good. But as Caroline had mentioned that whatever she was doing was for the greater good of the pack. And that should justify any single evil she was to do to Amelia, her one time best friend though she had loathed her for a while and the jealousy that was imbedded in her heart was already finding its way to her heart. “It doesn't really matter” she said out loud, Trying to convince herself

And the friend they used to have, she remembered all of a sudden, would not come to visit them either.

Yet, everything was done, nothing could be done now to correct the situation. Electronic cash was not reversible once the user had started the process of spending it.

It was that dream of the powerful able and utterly accepted woman who at last became a part of the community that Ema closed her eyes and dreamed in the darkness of her room.

Little did she know that the trap that she and Caroline wanted to create for Amelia was going to turn into something which would shake the pack’s tradition and relationships between them to the very core, proving their love and friendship, as well as their loyalty.

The stage was set. This group of players was now in operation. And now, the actual gaming of the game was imminent, this time, with the contracts at the risk of being ended fatally. Either way. Whatever will happen in the next few months. The end will forever justify the means.
