CHAPTER 46
Elijah interrupted him, “The man that fed you is as much your father. ” “He was a good man and a father figure to you, but was he really your biological father? “
Amelia uttered the last words barely stammering ‘You are my father,’ Amelia said.
Elijah now nodded and there was a combination of concern and happiness on his face. "Yes. "
He let her try to process this information and seconds later, they were both quiet. All her orientation was changing, her outlook on life itself was shifting to make room for this new information.
“Does Bruce know?” she questioned him rather impatiently
Elijah shook his head. “No, only I and your mother knew, and now you. ”
“Why?” snapped Amelia. Why would you hide this? What made you let me remain in darkness my whole life? "
Elijah crouched with his hands and looked into the face of the priest his eyes pleading for mercy. The words became bitter again, “Amelia, you need to comprehend. ” The circumstances. . . they were complicated. Your mother was married. That’s true and I as the beta of the pack, I have to give my allegiance. The pack would have been destroyed if the real truth is told concerning the donkey’s misfortune. "
Reading her feelings Amelia angrily stated, “So you choose the pack rather than me. ”
Elijah answered harshly saying, “No. ” “Your mother and I chose to give you love, a family, and a secure home. In essence, your mother and I thought it was for the best.
Tears welled up in her eyes and she quickly averted her gaze afraid of crying in front of him. ‘‘And right now? Why tell me this now?’’
There was a long silence to which Elijah responded. ‘’Apart from the part that you requested? Because I nearly lost you’’, he murmured. “I knew I could not stand the idea of you suffering a lonely death in the dark after I saw you in that clearing surrounded, overpowered and exhausted,” he continued, his voice cracking. This I can sort of feel for you, Amelia, — ‘How much I love you. ’
Everything that he had said engaged Amelia, and she looked at him, turning back from the refrigerator. His eyes were welled up with tears and this was a sight that she had never seen on the face of the usually unemotional Beta.
“Ever since I got here you have always stood by my side,” was what Amelia said, perhaps trying to make out the situation as more of a family affair than a romantic one. The training, the advice, the shield. Was it a sensation that went beyond the call of duty; call of pack instinct you had in you always?
Elijah gave a headshake. “No, never because you are my daughter,” he said harshly, “I got this feeling every time you gained a little more or achieved something new, every joyful moment I could have normally in mothering a child, but I had to pretend and rejoice in being the Beta of a pack for a potential member. ”
Reminiscing all her past interactions with Elijah Amelia could not get a grip of what was happening to her. The tolerance that he had shown her, the understanding that appeared to be in his eyes when every word, every movement suggested that he knew her as nobody else in the world did. Everything fell into place now.
“Does this. . . does this concern Bruce in any way?” Amelia asked, new apprehension rising within her.
Elijah looked at her determined and replied, “No. ” “Bruce’s affection toward you is something belonged only to him, this doesn’t define who we two are to each other. ”
Relieved, Amelia nodded. Of course, new questions dictated by air temperature changes were far from being born. ”Am I … am I even a true hybrid then? If you’re my father, and you’re a werewolf… “
“You are,” Elijah said to her confidently. “You see, there is still so much that you do not know regarding your mother’s past Now that would be a conversation that would have to wait for another day when she is here to explain it. ”
Amelia's head was spinning. She felt that is she was transforming so drastically at what she was and what was happening to her. She had a lot of confusion and therefore for some time, she could not speak as she tried to arrange her thoughts.
Finally, she answered: “I do not know how to feel” “I have been lied my whole life, I am angry about that But at the same time, there is a part of me that is relieved that I am aware of it, to understand the meaning of your constant attendance. ”
Elijah hesitated for a second, and then, placing his hand, gently shook Amelia’s hand. Vaguely, that is the message I write: “I know that this message might be too much to take in. In addition to that, I want to state that you never expected anything from me. If you would like to take some time or space to think about it that is perfectly fine. But I truly hope that one day you will be able to forgive me. This way we could at least get the chance to be father and daughter
Amelia could feel the pressure of Elijah’s hand when he grabbed her hand for a handshake. It was a familiar and warm gesture; something she had gotten used to over the years. Nevertheless, it had the new meaning now.
The reality of it was Amelia did not know what would occur in the near future. ”This alters so much,” she said, “But I do know one thing. ” She looked at Elijah. "You prevented my death. You have always stood by me even when I could not comprehend why this was the case. That has significance.
Elijah looked relieved when I said that. “I thank you, dear Amelia That is much more than I was hoping for. ”
For awhile they sat, without speaking, each with his own clouded gaze. Essential dynamics of their relationship changed in ways that neither of them was fully aware of before the revelation that was between them.
Amelia only uttered something that could be heard again. Next, she asked the following questio, what must happen next?
Elijah then put his hands around her and gave the woman a comforting squeeze. “For now let it be that way As with any family, there is still a lot yet in the way of us But as the pack, as couple, you and I have each other’s back. ”
Amelia just nodded, feeling quite helpless and lost at the same time. This she knew had changed almost everything in her world and yet for some reason she was stronger now that she knew this man was her father. More grounded.
At last it was over, and as the truth had sunk into her Amelia felt herself again overtaken by the weakness of the past days; she fell back on her pillows with a soft sigh. Elijah stood and did the fatherly thing at which he astounded as he pulled the blanket over her to cover her up.
“Take a rest now,” he whispered. Pronunciation: ‘’Wake up and behold, I shall be there. ’’
This was the first time Amelia felt strongly safe after this and she drifted off to sleep knowing that. And she was not alone even if the future was shrouded in doubts and vagueness of the path to be taken. Her father had always loved her, and he still did he had always been proud of her, and he still was When she wrote him express letters she received affectionate replies The letters he wrote her were full of love He never failed to advise her and check up on her well being His love for her was clear He would transfer his love and affection to his children This is evident because Ramsey’s relationship with his daughter was one of love and care. And they would face whatever followed as the team would.
The last thing she saw before dozing off was his face and in it there was the warm affection of a lover, and the cold determination of a sentry. Her father. The idea pursued her to her sleep and to the new reality that would take some time for her to fully embrace but was a warmth she never realized she needed.
