CHAPTER 44

She shifted her position around seated, her posture alert and ready for a fight. She held a silver dagger and that sparkled, adding to the hope of killing countless of her enemies but those were extremely insufficient to overpower them. Amelia was not going to let that happen without a stiff resistance, however. If this was going to be the last time she was going to encounter vampires, let them remember her for the hell of a struggle.

The first attack was an attempt of treachery and it was performed from the back. Amelia glanced up and felt the flow of cool air as monstrous claws were moved over her head, she dodged. The demoness twirled around with her dagger reflecting the moonlight, then she stabbed the vampire right in the face. It staggered back, howling cold in pain and its body oozed blood, now mixed with silver.

But then, there was no time to cheer over the victory, which although small, was a victory nonetheless. In turn, already a new vampire was upon her, opening its fangs and trying to slice her throat. Amelia lifted her arm and clenched her jaw as she felt her teeth cut her skin. Not only antalgia is severe, but it also roused some archaic instinct within her. Her call became hoarse and she felt as if she was becoming uncontrollable; the wolf in her surfaced and her eyes shined as she rumbled.

Amelia screamed in both pain and anger as she jerked the vampire off of her arm; she then flung the creature across the clearing with enhanced force. The others stopped what they were doing, and for a moment they gawked at the sign of might. Yet, this hesitance only lasted for a short moment.

They attacked her in turns, two or three of them at a time. In the battle, Amelia tried her best and fought evenly with them because of her mixed blood. Her dagger sliced the vampire again and again with more silver dues. But the same woman also felt the receipt of an equal amount of blow for every blow that she administered. Claws raked her skin, hands came in for the kill across her lower back, and she could see herself dissolving slowly.

A new feeling of hopelessness briefly crossed the face of Amelia as she fended off a new strike. This is where she was going to die – in this open space, away from her friends and family, her home, and her heart. The pain of separation from Bruce and not seeing him again almost pulled her heart apart when she uttered the above statement. However, it also brought a powerful idea within me that I need to do something or be successful in whatever I do. She would die fighting if it was the last thing she wanted to do death.

Essentially, the leader of the vampires seemed to detect her strength decreasing. He stepped forward with what appeared to be glee in his eyes. ‘It was a good fight all the same you know,’ he said wrapping his arms around her in a way that would make a shark green with envy. Well, that is now history. Teenagers, would you just quit once and for all? I will have it done soon enough.

Amelia splattered blood on the blacktop by his shoes. She snarled then pointed a knife at them with an uncertain hand, and with vehemence, said: go to hell.

The leader became slightly enraged at this point and spoke: ‘Get lost’, was his reply to her much to her surprise, and as if that was not enough, he said ‘Do what you want’. He signaled the other vampires to move further closer to Amelia so that they could attack her.

Realizing in her heart this was it she readied herself for attack. But the night air was cut by a horrible sound as the vampires closed in on them. Everyone was frozen by the tune which was naked, aggressive, and powerful.

Something large came into view from the verge of the woods, and it rushed past the site at such a pace that it was difficult to notice. Blinking slowly Amelia found it rather hard for her tired head to process what she was seeing. Like paper dolls, the newcomer attacked the vampires and bodies began to fly through the air in every direction.

Some patterns were distinguishable to Amelia as her peripheral vision began to go black. Elijah. Bruce's beta. He'd come for her.

Hearing the words of reassurance from Elijah, Amelia could feel the wave of relief wash over her so severely that she had to sit down. She listened to the sound of Elijah stabbing the last of the vampires, and feeling the numbness in her fingers finally released the silver dagger. It’s odd to see him so angry, I remembered his wolf form as if it was a whirlwind of fur and fangs.

Finally seeing the effect of the bullets on his followers, the vampire leader quickly ran away. But Elijah was hot on his heels, leaping and wrapping his large embrace around the vampire, making a vice-like grip of his mouth on the vampire’s throat. One could hear a sickening crunch sound and then there was supreme silence in the clearing.

Amelia stood up unsteady and it seemed the adrenaline that had kept her going all through failed to work when she was in the link. He went back to human form and the next thing she saw; he was running towards her with a pained look on his face. But the world was still, and growing steadily more dark.

There was a moment of silence then; “Amelia!” His voice was muffled, and yet very distinct. Laying in the bed, Amelia stared at the lifeless body of one of the Vampires. ” Amelia, stay with me, you are safe now,” Julia said.

She tried to answer him, to ask about Bruce, and to say to him thanks for coming. However, the body of this frail woman could not stand it anymore. Elijah’s muscular arms came around Amelia and she closed her eyes and fainted. The last thought that went through Sandy’s mind before the lights went out was Bruce and the faint possibility that she might see him again.

As Elijah buried his face into Amelia’s lifeless body he scanned around the clearing for any threat. However, it was clear that vampires had already been defeated, their dead bodies were turning to ashes due to the effect of the light of the full moon.

Turning his attention towards Amelia he looked at her bruised face. And had fought, she had fought bravely, and more fiercely than any of them could have dreamed it possible. However, from the start she was doomed to fail, at least that was the impression one got about the entire forefront. Elijah blamed themselves; they should never have let her face this alone for as long as they did.

“I have you now,” he said softly more to himself because she was not hearing him. “Amelia, don’t be scared you are safe I am taking you somewhere where you will be safe. ”

Love was very evident as Elijah lifted Amelia and he took her in his arms. He could only hear her breathing although she breathed rather faint and still; her head rested on his chest. She needed to be hospitalized, per se. However, she was greatly in urgent need of her pack. She needed Bruce.

Elijah gave a slight nod and a smile to Amelia before he was able to take her out of the ugly mess that was the clearing now. But she has survived all these years. Finally, they became able to start on compensation. The pack would regroup and those who sought to separate them would be taught a severe and bitter lesson by the bikers.

Elijah followed the forest back to where hid his car and the forest seemed to split in the middle. The night was now still and calm, as though the world was on the wait-and-see type of stare.

Then Elijah put Amelia in the backseat and placed an emergency blanket on her. He closed the door and started the car; he looked at her through the rearview mirror and she was still unconscious.

He whispered, “Wait for me, Amelia. ” “We are getting to a safer place. ”

This time, a piece of Amelia’s final stand was seen to be left behind as the car pulled off. Seeing this, Elijah asked himself, what adversities were to follow, as the hours pressed forward and they drove through the night. It was a rather dark hole with no ray of light at the end of the tunnel.
