CHAPTER 65
They listened to the soft sound of the front door shutting as Elijah went out and the rest of them seemed to not make a single sound after. Rosa stood still for a moment, her hand out-stretched as if to beckon him back. It was confusing, fear coursed through her veins and there was something else she could not put a name to.
“Rosa?” More serious and slightly accusatory this time a warm and friendly tone in his voice brought her back to reality. An unofficial specification that follows from this question of course: ‘Who was that man, really?’
Rosa looked at her husband, a weight on her chest that had begun to feel like she carried a lot of secrets within herself. She had been expecting this day and possibly feared it even as she tried to create a new one that was free from the world of the supernatural. But she had thought, perhaps prose and imprudently, that it would always be possible not to have them intermingle.
He gazed into her eyes and saw fear: “Kevin,” she said softly, “I think we have to talk. ”
Kevin scowled, which was rather unlike him, as deep creases appeared on his kind face. I asked her, “Rosa, you are frightening me now; what is happening?”
As Rosa was about to open her mouth and respond, heavy footsteps from upstairs signifying the arrival of, their son, came banging in. Michael entered the room running with soccer cleats in his hands and a cheerful look on his face.
“There you go!” he exclaimed conquering his joy, “That’s what I have been looking for. ” However, it dropped from his lips when he noticed that the atmosphere in the room had changed to a tense one. “Mom? Dad? Are all of you alright?”
Rosa faked a smile and took a prompting step forward to tousle her son’s hair. “Nothing’s wrong sweetheart. Why don’t you go and prepare yourself you have a game coming up we shall be going shortly. ”
Michael looked from father to mother expecting an explanation but found none on Wiley's face, he simply nodded and went upstairs. As soon as he out of earshot Kevin spoke harshly to Rosa ‘Shaking his head in disbelief ever growing frustration all over his face, Boys!’
“Rosa, please, do not hide anything from me”,
Rosa heaved a sigh, preparing herself for the worst and putting herself in a state suitable for the conversation she was about to have. From where she stood, she could not hear the cacophony of the audience but she went on, “After Michael’s game,” she said in a whisper. He felt her concern and made an assurance to her with the words; “I promise to explain everything when we get there”.
Kevin looked her over for what felt like a long time before finally nodding his head in agreement. "Alright," he agreed. ‘But nothing more of secrets from now on, Rosa,’ he said, ‘whatever it may be, it confronts the two of us. ’
Rosa felt the guilt deep within her increase at the words of her husband. Little did he know what all these years she had been hiding from him, this secret of hers.
The remaining part of the day also proved to be uneventful. Rosa pretended that she was cheering for Michael in his soccer match; pretended that the victory of the team was something to be happy for, like the other parents. But she could not afford it - her thoughts flew off onto the arrangements of the words that would soon need to be said, the truths that would have to be told.
Last of all, given that Michael is securely settled in front of a Nintendo Game, Rosa and Kevin decide to take a seat at the wooden kitchen table. The two sat in complete silence for a moment then the noise of the clock ticking on the wall was almost unbearable.
“Okay Rosa,” David replied, and even though his tone was soft, his words were authoritative. ‘It is high time I came here,’ and, ‘Who was that man today?’ and ‘What has this to do with Amelia?’
Gulping, Rosa shut her eyes for a moment and then opened them again to look forward to the future. And when she opened them, she looked at him and faced the young man who was Kevin full in the face. “He is Elijah, I knew him before… Before all this… There is a part of my life, my story, that I haven’t shared with you. ”
Kevin had anticipated this question and looked at the floor again before leaning forward in his chair, and spoke in an aggressive tone. "I'm listening. "
Rosa inhales and decides to peel off the layers of lies she has been spinning over the years And even at that, she wasn't willing to tell him the entire truth. “Before all this, Before I got here before I even met you, I was a member of the community. More like a pack, I suppose you could say”
Ever so often, Kevin was as lost as any beginner to the culture of a foreigner, “What, pack?”
‘’Werewolves Kevin,’’ Rosa said, the word lingering in between them like a wound. ‘’I was once a member of a group of werewolves. ’’
Kevin looked rather stunned, even though part of their expression was worried. "Rosa if this is some kind of joke if this is your way of making me laugh" Even as she spoke her eyes betrayed her as their glisten produced the sparkle that always accompanied her intention to joke even court jesting was no exception.
This prompted Rosa to interrupt; “It’s not” she said in a stern tone. “I can hardly believe it, but for some reason, it is true and I am apologizing to you for that, Kevin,” she persevered; “Yes, the supernatural world exists, David, werewolves, vampires, and all that stuff”, She had to explain that she was born into that world.
She stopped for a while and watched the troubling look on David’s face when trying to digest this piece of news. Once more, he did not speak, so she went on, “That life is gone, the moment I found you I just wanted a simple and safe life. ”
Kevin had paled and still, he gestured for her to go on.
“Amelia,” Rosa whispered, “Our daughter, one of the bonds that brought us together She is not a normal person. ”
‘I don’t understand,’ said Kevin slowly and quietly.
Rosa blew out the air and attempted to calm down. I closed my eyes, feeling somewhat weak as I tried to gather her thoughts: “Amelia is half werewolf and half vampire, and you don’t even share blood with her
