CHAPTER 37
Caroline is stiff and nervous; she continually paces the little cabin she has been given. She could not admit it to herself, but what had occurred to her with Amelia earlier that evening upset her very much. The older woman’s blood boiled with such audacity of the hybrid; she had dared to follow Caroline and practically present a threat.
Caroline gave a low growl of anger, standing with her hands by her sides ‘damn that girl’. “Who does she think she is?”
But the anger was gone almost as soon as it rose, replaced by the cold creeping back into her at the core of her being. Caroline was wrong thinking that Amelia would not do anything to get what she wanted. What more was she able to do if she had been able to locate the warded cabin, and face Caroline face to face?
Caroline's gaze shifted towards the pile of scrolls and books that litter the table and the floor all over the cabin. It felt so exposed, all of it: documents from the secret conferences with Ema, aesthetics of species mixing, pre-classical books on lycanthropes, and the structure of a pack. If Amelia had entered – Then, perhaps, what could she see – How much of it was hers?
Caroline grumbled all the while pulling the coat on and walking towards the door. She couldn’t stay here, indulging herself in problems and concerned thoughts. She had to, at least, call Ema to ensure that; all that was planned for her was not affected by this incident.
Caroline went through the forest in the direction of the pack house with the breath of fresh air and the chill of the night heaving on her face. She had been in the profession for quite some time and as such, went around with a lot of agility. And she stayed on her guard waiting for Amelia, or any of her accomplices that she was waiting for them to jump out on her at any one time.
Caroline could pick up other werewolves when she got near the boundaries of the pack’s territory. She grumbled a curse to herself. She would forget how unsafe it was for her to be here in her confusion and fuss. Her “Vacation” was supposed to keep her out of the sight of the villains, while Ema began working on their idea.
Caroline avoided the areas that she used to know Luna patrolling, ass hiding from the patrols. She knew well how she could be considered a spy and therefore her face was filled with fear as she scuffled from one shelter to another. At last with a great deal of relief, she got to the pack house’s rear entrance and quickly sneaked in.
Most of it was now closed and beside it, there was nothing several halls in which the majority of the pack was still asleep at this late hour. Caroline made her way to the wood-flooded room in her stockinged feet in relative stealth to Ema’s living space. She looked uneasily from left to right and back again before she knocked lightly on the door.
The door hissed before slowly opening and Ema was there standing in front of me with a look of being caught off guard. Caroline? “Where in the world are you?” it was more like, “This is all I can do for you now lady,” she said, helping the women get into the house before quickly shutting the door.
Caroline said, for instance, ‘We have an issue,’ while the nature of the problem was not explained. "Amelia knows. "
Ema's gaze expanded. "Knows what? How much?”
“She paid the cabin a courtesy visit this evening,” Caroline corrected her sister the room bristling with anger. >Approached me directly about the meetings and demanded that I tell her what we were up to.
Ema got off her feet sat on the edge of the bed and said one word “Goddess. ” “How did she find this place? How on earth would she know where to search?”
Caroline's eyes flickered erratically. “I came here to ask you this as well Ema Have you been careless, oblivious, or intentionally out in the open when you get here and when you leave?”
Such an accusation made Ema furious. “No no, I have been very careful, as you advised me. No one I have dealt with has even a slight suspicion. ”
“Someone does,” Caroline angrily reacted. Or have you thought about the fact that Amelia has some vampire in her? She has more superfine senses than the average wolf. They have left any trace if but to somewhat, and that is enough for me. . . "
”I haven’t,” said Ema, although on her face there was an impression of doubt for a short period. Nevertheless, there was a time when I thought someone was after me; I looked back and there was no one behind me. "
Caroline shut her eyes and took a deep breath to calm herself down for the future conversation. The culprit is likely to be Elijah; that dirty Beta as most people refer to him. He always had a surplus of intelligence that was never helpful to him. He continued staring icily at Ema and said. “Ema, this is the type of carelessness we can ill afford right now,” Caroline said, her green eyes reflecting her concern as she met his gaze “With Amelia having the ability to turn Bruce against us – before we are ready, everything that we have been fighting for, everything that we have been building could come crashing down. ”
It was a determined look and watching this fresh-faced girl transform like this made me sit up straighter; made me pay more attention. “That will not happen. I swear to you. You should not worry because I am going to complete the arrangement tomorrow.
Caroline furrowed her brows. "Tomorrow? So soon?"
Ema gave a nod. ‘Well, as we promised, I have been keeping them warm for weeks now, teasing the right people and fanning their worries over Amelia and her need to transform and her dual-self Caroline, the pack is worked up and ready for someone to step in and claim that they are right in defending our traditions and way of life.
The contour of Caroline’s lips curved upwards into a hapless smile. ‘‘And you will be that someone’’.
“Yes right,” Ema said rather affirmatively as if she was sure of herself. “I will make my big move at the pack meeting tomorrow The pack will be calling for her head and wanting to go back to the old way by the end of my speech. ”
