CHAPTER 49

His car roared on the poorly lit blacktop as the headlights illuminated the dark as Elijah drove on country roads. His hand clenched the steering wheel so tightly that the skin had turned pale and his thoughts was filled with hope and anxieties. Every one of the witches that Beta could think of and make contact with had been used up and had been searching far and wide for a match to Ema’s witch and that locator spell. Now, as the earliest light were just starting to line the horizon, he was out of choices – or maybe out of choices that were not deadly.

The car slowed further as it neared a shack which was some distance from the next nearest dwelling. Elijah pulled over and at least gave himself five minutes to prepare for what he was about to face. Taking a deep breath in, he got out of the car and went to the door of the little cabin, rusted.

Before he could knock on the door it was flung open by a woman who had big bosoms and dark curling hair and her eyes were green. Morgana. The witch crossed her arms over her chest and looked smug as she leaned against the doorframe.

“Well, well” she said with a tinge of grinning with her lips curved into a devilish smile. “Elijah. Haven’t seen you in a while. ”

Elijah nodded stiffly. A tall, dark haired woman stood up and crossed the door in an elegant manner. “Morgana. May I come in?”

The witch really extended the hand to him and smiled even further as she moved aside for him to join. It was a chaotic scene of strange parcels of magic, dried herbs were hanging around from the logs on the ceiling, and books that lined every possible flat surface.

“To what do I owe this unexpected pleasure?” Morgana began to lean back in an armchair if her house. “As far as I can remember, you were very much specific that our… relationship is over. ”

Thus, Elijah also stood still, albeit in an unconsciously coiled position. “I require your assistance Morgana and it’s about a life or death situation. ”

Morgana's eyebrow arched. The woman simply cannot contain herself, asking instead: “Isn’t it always with you wolves what a mess have you got yourself into now Elijah?”

To sum up, Elijah said the following – Amelia’s exile, Ema’s threats, and the locator spell which they all have been living with as a Sword of Damocles. With each word that he uttered, which was spoken in such an authoritative tone, the relaxed smirk on Morgana’s face slowly slid off her, and a cold determination replaced it.

‘This is no small thing you ask Elijah,’ she said after she had reached the end of what she wanted to say. “To cloak someone from all locator spells, and from one that you painted as powerful as you did – is a deadly magic. And expensive. ”

Elijah's jaw clenched. "Name your price. "

Morgana rose, and positioned herself in front of Elijah. She tilted her head, and with her free hand, gently running her fingers through his face. “Oh, my dear Elijah. It’s not things like money and favors I asked for here. Magic such as this… Demands a price. ”

“Whatever it takes,” Elijah said strongly grabbing Morgana’s hand. See for example the following: “The outcome of the picture may influence Amelia’s life. ”

Morgana’s eyes trailed over him and though there was no pain or remorse written on her features there was something else, something like regret. longing? – passing through them. After a while she replied softly, ‘Very well. ’ But as you requested, or rather demanded, here it is. ”

Elijah’s phone vibrated when Morgana started preparing the items that were required for the spell. A text from Bruce: ‘Ema’s getting suspicious,’ gasped Elijah, looking at the clock and wondering just how much longer this could continue.

Elijah quickly typed back: ”busy on it… keep her preoccupied”

Back in the pack house, Bruce is a man of two faces, literally trying to pull a fast one over the other members of the pack. For the past days he had been acting out the role more suitable to the lover Ema wanted – the REMORSEFUL Alpha who come to his senses , a beloved mate he wants. It was a part that made him sick to the stomach but he performed it to the best of his abilities knowing only too well the implication that came with the job.

Now at breakfast, looking at Ema across the table, he managed to put a smile on his face. “I was thinking,” he said, as he slowly took her hand across the table, “maybe it is time to go somewhere, just us: to maybe try and rebuild what we have?”

Ema’s eyes opened wide, at the same time there was a certain degree of distrust in her eyes. “That sounds great darling, But you forget; you have a lot to do for the pack. ”

Bruce, clearly unfazed, simply raised his shoulders, and let his arms drop back down to his sides. The pack can do without me for a few days. The pack will benefit from the strengthening of our bromance later on don’t you agree?

Ema nodded and forced a smile, but her eyes did not light up at all. “Ah of course where did you have in mind?”

While Bruce regaled the audience with stories of having time alone with his wife, deep in his heart he was hoping that Elijah had managed to kill the man. Each second that he acted this farce for the governing powers tore at his insides, so he would do it a thousand times over to ensure Amelia’s safety.

And back at the cabin of Morgana the atmosphere was filled with the tension of the looming magical battle. The witch was in the middle of a giant diagram on the ground with candles placed to correspond to parts of the square. Elijah stood as close to the wall as possible, his chest filled with hope as well as terror.

Morgana smiled and began to chant, In an ancient tongue the tone and melody rose and fell like music. The candles: they flickered and grew tall as if they could soar to the heavens; more than once they burst into sparks and died out completely. Among itself, a gust that should not exist in the closed cabin of the car blow past them, tossing papers all over the place and shaking the windows.

And then, as if a snap of the fingers, it was done. The air grew silent and Morgana fell to the floor unable to stand anymore.

Elijah was the first to get to her side, grabbing her hand and pulling her up. “Did it work?” he gasped with as much intensity as the ones surrounding him.

Morgana nodded weakly. “It is completed, Your Amelia is concealed from any magical tracking. ” But Elijah she had added holding his arm firmly and looking deep into his eyes. “There is a high cost for this magic; this price will be due and when due, one has to be ready to pay it. ”

‘Oh what do you mean’ Elijah asked as a cold feeling run down on his spinal cord.

Morgana shook her head. “I’m not sure of the specifics how it will manifest itself,” he said, somewhat hesitatingly, “Magic of this nature has its own intentions. When the time comes, you shall know and you shall make a decision. ”

Elijah nodded solemnly. “I comprehend, thank you Morgana I will ensure that I do not forget this. ”

All of the sudden, he turned to go and walk out of the house and as he walked out Morgana shouted at him. “Elijah… be wise. What you are doing here is risky. Do not lose yourself here. ”

With a slight bow, Elijah went out of the cabin, his adrenaline rushing in his head due to the things that have been done. He contacted Bruce when he was on his way back towards the pack lands
