CHAPTER 88

It was a full moon night and the moon was almost touching the trees; the forest was rather dense, and the pack territory. Besides a convenient thicket, two persons breathed with regard and suppressed anger, their muscles strained in anticipation. Alpha Bruce with his muscular build, all kept tense as a coiled-up spring got more worked up as he rushed across the compound while Beta Elijah leaned against a tree with his eyes shut as if in a deep meditation.

Three days had passed since Amelia was kidnapped, three days that can be considered hell for both men. When Ema attacked them they were overwhelmed and rendered immobile long enough for the traitor to grab Amelia and run. Even after so many years after the incident that had brought so much hatred in Bruce he still kept that in mind which made him remain full of hatred.

“Have you heard anything from our scouts?” Bruce demanded snarling, he stopped walking for a moment to stare at Elijah.

Elijah blinked and looked at Bruce with both a worried, but fired-up expression on his face. “They should be reporting back any minute now. If their intel is correct then Ema and that hooded bastard should be leaving the compound soon. ”

Just at this point, a sound of disturbance among the twigs in the vicinity informed that two wolves had appeared. Conversation disappeared and their expressions immediately transformed into their human masks when they neared; they knelt before the Alpha and the Beta.

“Report,” Bruce barked the room and his face remained stern.

The first scout, a thin man of a marked appearance, opened his lips: “Alpha, we finally got the coordinates of the compound, the place is pretty well protected though but we found that they have a blind spot in their encampment on the Eastern side. ”

“And what of Ema and the hooded wolf?” Elijah asked abruptly turning around and moving closer to Bruce to stand beside him.

The second one was a thick-set woman with close-cropped hair and she replied to him. “The group of people left the compound an hour ago and were moving in the north direction from what we heard, they do not intend to come back before dawn. ”

One of the interesting advantages was the ability of Bruce and Elijah, who had been friends for some time, to look at each other and understand what the other was thinking. It was the only opportunity that could be at their disposal to save Amelia and get her away from the rather wicked aunt.

“Assemble the strike team,” Bruce commanded with clenched teeth, his resolve set on fire. “We branch out in thirty minutes. ”

When the scouts left quickly to convey the orders, Elijah put a hand on Bruce’s shoulder. “We will rescue her, boy. And we will punish everyone who is between us and her. ”

Bruce just nodded his head and again clenched his jaw tightly. “We will,” said Bruce. “But I just hope that we are not too late. ”

Half an hour later it became clear that the pack’s best fighters were ready to go to war. Swords were honed, battle tactics were set out in detail and gentlemen’s word honor in the form of death pledges were given. When the strike team convened at the rim of it all the air was heavy with electricity and the premonition of the violence.

Bruce’s stature was that of a leader, standing tall before his warriors and with the look of a powerful and ready-to-fight warrior. “Tonight, we fight not only for our pack, but also for one of us Amelia is not only my mate and the daughter of Elijah, she is the symbol of the treaty between werewolves and vampires Now, the people who took her want to erase that hope, fear, and ignorance shall not triumph. ”

A faint sound of murmur which was more of a growling could be heard passing through the assembly of wolves.

“Just remember,” Elijah, who had been in the business for many years now, said, “our job is to find Amelia alive. ” “Anyone, and I repeat, anyone who we meet on the way is our enemy and will be treated as such,” Elijah said sternly.

With the sign from Bruce the strike team proceeded to advance, they ghosted through the terrains of the forest with ease. They went about in a united manner, which depicted how well-oiled a military group is supposed to be, especially when on a mission. They had been trained for years and were also very experienced and tonight, they would require all these skills and comradeship.

When they reached the compound vicinity Bruce gave the signal to the team to stop. Behind the strip was a vast high concrete wall and he could make out some barbed wire along the rim of the wall. Towers were spaced at equal distances and had spotlights on them which moved in opposite directions over the forest.

Bruce decided to consult his second in command and a rather rough-looking man he was; Elijah “You and your men go outside and cause a ruckus at the west side of the building – try to lure as many guards as you can but do not start a fight unless you have no choice – we need them disoriented not alarmed. ”

Reluctantly, he agreed with the statement and stepped back into the shadows signaling his squad to follow.

‘We have to stop them,’ said Elijah to Bruce, although he was smiling in a rather unpleasant way. This one for instance elicited the stock proverbial response which has become rather customary in that regard; “Just like old times, eh?”

Bruce smiled back at him, but the smile only made it to the surface and did not in any way translate to his eyes. “We hope the team has not digressed from where it was in the past. ”

They waited without speaking, with all their abilities more than ever on the strain. The time that seemed like an eternity was eventually followed by a volley of loud bangs, which seemed to have lasted about five minutes. Sirens rose from within the compound, and cries of alarm jostled with shrieks of terror and the clamor of approaching guards.

“Now,” Bruce growled, and as one of the remaining members of the strike team pressed forward.

They got to the eastern wall in seconds, wall climbing being one of the benefits of being a supernatural being. This, however, was all that was left of the guards who had not been decoyed by the smoke on the other end, as they descended on the other side.

Bruce didn’t hesitate. With an animalistic growl of anger, he rushed at the first of the guards and the naked fury that bloomed in the man’s eyes was matched only by the violence of the cat’s claws as they ripped through the soldier’s tunic and into the flesh beneath. Beside him, Elijah looked like a substantially younger werewolf, dropping two of the guards in the most slick manner imaginable, rendering them out with stunning kicks and punches.

The rest of the team easily terminated the rest of the resistance, their moves were so precise and fast that the guards did not even get a chance to sound the alert. When the last body hit the floor, Bruce turned his nose up toward the air and sniffed searching for the smell of Amelia.

“This way,” he growled, the scent of her mysterious hybrid trail slightly masked by the smell of wolfsbane. The team trailed behind Bruce and Elijah as they ventured further into the compound.
