CHAPTER 38

Caroline silently nodded at him, but she did not look satisfied in any way. Ema, this is a rather courageous move Indeed. Are you sure you are prepared though? This is our only chance, and my thoughts are we heed it as a call for us to make the right choices. Should it not work. . . "

‘It will not fall apart,’ Ema said quietly. Caroline, I promise you. I've thought of everything. Bruce will have no option but to quit trying to save her by tomorrow to employ a stricter one at that. . . she plans to be out of traditional leadership by the time Amelia gets banished. "

The older woman stared at Ema and then contemplated the risks they were willing to take to match the look she saw in the girl’s eyes. Finally, she breathed out: it was a low, rich, impassioned note. "Ema, it better work. For I have news for you: The other werewolves have seen me return this evening The gossip will spread quickly Anyone who knows that Amelia is half-vampire will surely be watching her to see if she remains in her right mind.

Ema had her usual confident look, but it slightly flickered. "What do you mean?"

Caroline’s blood pressure was up once more, and she stood up, beginning to pace the little cell. ‘Consider it. The timing, straight after you have been sowing the seeds of doubt in Amelia? A genius will not be required to connect the dots They will be waiting for any signal that Amelia is weakening or getting nervous. ’

But does not that work to our advantage? Ema asked reasonably. “Then they will be more welcoming to what I have to say tomorrow if they are already wary. ”

Coalesce around her because they hate the dark, a thing that shows that they are indeed alike in this sense. ” “That is why your plan has to be perfect,” she stopped pacing and stared at Ema with a fierce look. I want to say that we are not going to get a second chance ever. "

Ema also gave a serious nod to the statement that she made. “I told you, everything has been arranged. ” Caroline, I guarantee you that I will not let you down, tomorrow at this time the pack will belong to us again.

For a brief period, the load of what they were to do next just balanced between both women and they did not say anything. It raced through Caroline’s mind, everything she could think of, and everything else that was beyond her control that could potentially go wrong. But they have committed too many errors and gone too far and cannot stop easily now.

At last, she concluded, “Very well. ” “I will have faith in your scheme, Ema But I want you to bear in mind that while we will also be at risk of having Amelia against us if this fails, Bruce is an Alpha through and through, and as much in love with his hybrid partner as he is with his sentient ship, he will not allow anyone to threaten his alpha position . . .

“He won’t,” Ema was quick in her response. Any ordinary man would buckle under the pressure; Bruce would have no choice but to step down by the time I am done. Thus, for the protection of the group’s welfare.

Caroline quietly agreed but she could hardly keep doubt out of her mind. She went up to the door and then hesitated with her hand on the handle. ‘‘Watch out for her Ema, Amelia is worse than we had anticipated she is pretty dangerous don’t let her fool you. ’’

"I won't," Ema promised. ”Sleep, Caroline, sleep; tomorrow is different. ”

Caroline’s head was filled with what-ifs and dread and so out she turned and back into the blackness disappeared. Thinking that the interests of the pack were at risk because of Amelia, she had motivated herself to set up this plan. But then, in their big play, doubts started to creep in rather like a shadow.

Had she overestimated Amelia, was this why she felt that the young lady was not pulling her weight? Did her self-prejudice obscure the actual possibilities of a hybrid model? Was Ema prepared for the part they had in store for her? Or was Caroline bet the pack’s future on a warm, dumb carrot?

Caroline thus gaining more determination headed back to the secret cabin. Now, it was highly impossible to entertain such ideas since it had taken her this far into the marriage. The next day their fate would be decided they met and thus pledged themselves to this pack. It will all be changed, in one way or another, everything will never be the same again.

Perched on the edge of the bed in her room in the pack house which was pitch black by now, Ema sat and felt her heartbeat race due to adrenaline. Tomorrow. She would take her deserved position as the pack’s savior the following day after planning meticulously for weeks and scheming to get her way.

She began imagining how shocked her pack members would be when he revealed to them the new motives that Amelia had. Care was taken by her in putting her arguments in a negative way that was going to touch on the darker side of the pack. They would be beseeching her to lead by the time she was through.

Ema felt a tiny bit guilty though for the trickery. Amelia realized that it was not her that was the monster that people tried to present her as. But Ema did not pay any attention to the emotion. This was for the greater benefit she reminded herself over and over again. Such a pack called for strong traditional leadership that it received. She was the embodiment of the dangerous changes that men need protection against and thus they needed her.

Ema was able to sleep finally when the break of the dawn touched her face through the window. The power would soon be hers are the final words she said before falling off to sleep. She would be the new Alpha female by evening. And nothing would ever be the same.

Other than Bruce, Amelia slumbered all over the pack house and was unaware that a thunderstorm was brewing. Caroline’s confrontation made her brain full of ideas and potential threats, thus making her a nominee for the position. But at least she had made her stand, and drawn some sort of a line in the sand. It’d face whatever is next in life head-on.

The air was charged with tension just like a storm was brewing as the members of the pack went to bed on what seemed to be a day of reckoning. The pack’s future was at stake, and there would be no doubts tested Ema had formed the alliances it had. Secrets would be exposed
