CHAPTER 56
Holding the small bag that she had casually thrown things in over the last couple of days – money that she had been able to save and a few of the items – Amelia stepped out of the cabin
The road was deserted. Amelia proceeded swiftly not walking in the middle of the road staying closer to the trees and masking from anything that could sight her as she walked. She had learned all the paths and was not sure the Witch locator spell was working
When Amelia was close to the main road, she could hear someone coming towards her. She felt her heart rise in her esophagus as she hid behind a big tree and held her breath as the person drove away.
Once Amelia decided that the coast was clear, she proceeded to continue her voyage. Down the road path that people rarely used. The fresh night breeze brushed her face and for what seemed like the briefest of moments, she was free, Amelia was alive.
But she couldn’t linger. Amelia realizes that she cannot stay there for long as someone is bound to realize that she is missing. Bruce and Elijah would go to any end just to find her. She needed to act violently and also ensure that she was not easily traced.
Amelia walked through the sleeping town being extra careful to hide her presence. She did not go through the main streets instead she was crisscrossing through the trees and some of the dark alleys. Her destination was the bus station on the outskirts of the town; her ticket to freedom.
Thus Amelia thought while walking Where could she go? Where would she go? What would she do? The great future that lay ahead of the remained unknown to her and though it made her fearful, it was also full of endless opportunities. In several weeks for the first time, only a glimmer of hope awoke inside of her.
With the first signs of daybreak, the sky was still somewhat dim when Amelia got to the bus station. She nervously walked to the ticket counter.
“Just one for the next bus out of here for me please,” she said her voice sounding a lot braver than she was inside. She headed for the bus station.
He yawned and hardly looked at her as he tore the ticket and handed it to her. “The bus is going to depart in twenty minutes It is on platform 3. ”
Amelia just simply nodded her thanks and tightened her grip on the ticket as if it was her only hope. Scared as she was, she looked around quickly for any signs that someone was following her before she settled to wait in one of the chairs at the corner of the waiting area. But the station was still silent and had few people, mostly those who get up earlier in the morning.
She started to have second thoughts which made the counting of minutes more and more unbearable. Thoughts like this kept flooding her mind; ‘Am I making the right decision?’ What about the pack – her family? What about Bruce and Elijah who gave their all, gave their life, to protect her from this fate?
Amelia swatted the thoughts away with her head shake. She had to put emotions to one side now, she could not afford to get involved emotionally. All this was about survival – survival in the literal sense, as well as the ability to remain a person with a soul, a person.
The sound of an engine that is starting up piqued her interest. The bus was already at the station, looking at the number on her ticket boldly written on the bus, she smiled and said: "This was it".
This was her break-even point. Heaving a sigh, Amelia got up from the bench and proceeded towards the bus. Every movement was orchestrated majestically; she felt as if she was being translated into a new life that was laced with much unknown.
When she stepped onto the carriage Amelia took one final glance at the town she called home. They stood about a thousand meters away and beyond them, she saw the pack house hazy still amid the early morning.
“I’m sorry,” she said softly; there was sadness in her eyes, and one tear rolled down her cheek. “But I have to do this for me” to assert the necessity of the action for themselves.
The bus doors shut with a hiss, which means Amelia was able to get a seat near the back. When she enters the bus, which is to take her away from all familiar surroundings, she feels such feelings as fear and sorrow; however, the exhilaration grows within her.
In one way or another, she was entering a new phase of her life now. This time she had gained the upper hand on him.
Though the girls had no inkling of it, Amelia was already many miles down the road, literally and figuratively, gazing out the window as home transformed into the unfamiliar. She sighed, shut her eyes and spread her arms out before her. A few days seemed to be an eternity for her; thus, she was finally able to release the tension.
Whatever challenges lay ahead, whatever obstacles she might face, Amelia knew one thing for certain: She was free, free at last from Ema
Amelia knew one thing for certain: She was finally, true As the surviving branch calmed down in its incessant attempts to please anyone she became the epitome of an enlightened elite embodying true wisdom.
The bus started moving, taking Amelia to the new life – to the life that she used to dream of; the life where she did not have to live up to others’ expectations, where she did not have to hide the things that she did which will ease her life for the future.
As she emptied the distance between her and San Francisco, Amelia realized that something was lifted off her back. It was a path full of question marks as to what she would do next, but it was also her path.
And for now, that was enough.
As For Bruce and Elijah, their Search had just begun, they were done with Ema there was nothing in their way stopping them from finding Amelia and bringing her back home.
This seemed like a relief, little did they know, the darkness lurking from the dark had gotten its opportunity to pounce on their happiness.
