CHAPTER 34

Bruce furrowed his brow. So, an elderly lady? Were you able to identify her? "

 Elijah ground his teeth and nodded. "It was Caroline. " 


 The name floated in the air between them like a heavy, symbolic fer which they knew they were responsible for but didn’t want to face. Bruce’s eyes opened real wide as if he could not believe what he heard, and then they became slits of concentration. 

 ‘Caroline,’ He repeated and when he said her name once more, it was as if this weighed completely against her true identity. "Are you sure?" 
 

 "Definitely," Elijah replied. ‘‘She was there even in the dark And Bruce… The cabin was warded. Magically protected They will do everything they can to keep whatever they are up to hidden. ’’ 

 
 All of a sudden he got nervous, Bruce began to pace and every single unnerved fiber showed it. ‘This has taken me by surprise. Everything becomes different when Caroline is included. ‘

Elijah stared his Alpha up and down, with the scrutiny that equals the amount of effort he puts into designing one of his masterpieces. “What wishes do you have? It seems we may have to come face-to-face with Ema. ” 

 

 Bruce gave a headshake. said, “Not yet, we still need more information, if we revealed more details we might push Ema into Caroline’s trap even deeper. ” 

 
 “And Amelia, what about her?”, Elijah asked hesitantly. ”Must we have to tell her?” 

 
 Bruce stopped, his harassed look painted all over his face evident. ‘I am not sure,’ I want to protect her from this partly, but. . . " 

 “However, she is entitled to know,” Elijah said on behalf of the man. ‘Especially if,’ was briefly interrupted by the thought, that she could be in danger. 

 

 Reluctantly, Bruce nodded. “Of course you are right,” I said, “We will talk her into it together,” I added; “But I want to know everything you said to her, everything you heard, and everything you saw though; Every small detail. 


 The following hour Elijah mapped every inch of the geography; the positioning of the cabin, the knock Ema had employed, and the brief visual tours of the interior he had been given. Bruce did not interrupt, and only sometimes asked questions to ensure he fully understood the situation.
 

 He was certain that Bruce would be speechless for quite some time after Elijah had spoken his piece. ‘This adds more complexity,’ he finally said to his assistant. “We would have thought Ema would be more loyal but this shows a level of planning that wasn't anticipated. ” 

 ‘’What do you think they are planning to do?‘’ Elijah enquired. 
 

 Bruce gave a headshake. “I am not certain,” he said, “But it is not good, knowing Caroline She would always have strong ideas about how the Pack ought to be administered. She also disapproves of outsiders at all That is why she took her fictitious vacation to allow her the opportunity to scheme against Amelia. ” 


 Elijah's gaze grew strained. It is your opinion that Amelia has something to do with this? About what she is indicating that she is a half-breed? " 



 Bruce sighed rather negatively, “It is a possibility one cannot rule out. ” “Caroline, despite her streak of modernity, would never think of having a Hybrid holding a senior position in the Pack; that would go against her principles, beliefs, and values. 

 

 As the implication sunk in both of them stood in a quiet reflection for some time. Finally, Elijah spoke up. "What's our next move?" 

 Elijah's gaze met Bruce and his usually friendly and warm look turned to that of an Alpha male wolf. With these words, "we continue to converse with Ema and do nothing to disrupt her plans, although, for the first time, I am confident that she believes she has the upper hand and that she has outsmarted the both of us as she ‘‘pulls Caroline into her evil plans. ’’ 

 

 “And if we find the signs of their cheating?” Elijah questioned even if he already knew what the answer would be. 

 

 Anger was reflected in the glance of the Bruce’s eyes; he blushed and a black lightning illuminated his eyes. ‘After that, we will do whatever it takes to protect the Pack no matter what the cost. ’ 

 

 It took a lot for the mind to process all the information that Elijah got when he left Bruce’s study. It was even more than that, in this new version of the game, the stakes have been upped. He could not hide the grim satisfaction; he never thought Ema could be trusted completely and now his worst thoughts were coming true. 

 

 But Elijah got a hint of social interaction between Ema & some of the young folks belonging to the Pack when he was walking around the Packhouse. She smiled smoothly, then laughed softly at a comment someone at the table had made. Sometimes it was indeed hard to come to terms with this picture while observing her; clandestine meetings and hidden plans. 

 

 Elijah did not even let the doubt cross him as he shook his head in disbelief. In essence, what he had seen, he had only witnessed. He would not be fooled by Ema any longer no matter what card she was passing or costume she was wearing. Hi, ss's bias was towards Bruce, Amelia, and the Pack. And he would protect them in any way that he would deem necessary. 


Night time came, and the Packhouse had an aura, you know…something unsaid was going on all the time. Bruce and Amelia must have been discussing the information that Elijah said in their rooms in low tones. Elijah was sitting by the window with his gaze riveted on the black wall of the planted trees which signaled the beginning of the forest, and Ema was wandering around the cabin’s main areas while remaining unaware of the attention placed on her. Answers are hidden in the darkness somewhere. Threats and secrets. 



 In the future, there will be more decisions that will need to be made and challenges that will need to be addressed. Elijah understood that it would be days of challenge for everyone because of the shift in the balance on the Pack territory. 

 

 Even after that, he found himself unable to shake the impression that something big was around the corner, and with that in mind E Elijah turned from the window and got into bed immediately realizing that he had a peaceful night. It was a storm that was brewing and would drastically affect the Pack’s structure. 

 

 Elijah would also be ready when it broke. No matter what comes their way, he would face it all for his Alpha, for his Pack. Up to this point, Elijah was prepared to continue the game of secrets and lies as the game was about to move to the next level.
