CHAPTER 23

CHAPTER 23

There was only a low-lying moon and the Pack’s territory was covered by a dense forest which made it rather dark. Ema could hardly contain herself and was now pacing her darkly lit room, so many things had been made clear to her. To Caroline, she was willing to wait because she had acquired all the information she needed and relocated close to Amelia. Her maid was standing in front of her and she was clutching a worn leather volume with folkloric and mystical information about the otherworld’s realm, her hands were trembling.

Ema had been confronting Amelia for weeks because something was telling her that Bruce’s partner was not entirely normal. The first thing she saw was that Amelia was exhibiting some behaviors that were not typical of the werewolves she had watched in the movies. Ema now had information that could change this precarious balance in the Pack after hours of research and questioning.

Amelia was not like other hybrids that you could find, she was stronger and more vicious than other hybrids. But the best of all the Hybrids were her Oregon Clan.

You could see the realization physically big and knock Ema off her feet. Her kind of hybrid was rare, often feared, and ever so dangerous. The skills, they possessed were far beyond any typical werewolves and therefore they posed a serious threat in terms of being loyal to the wrong side in divided factions. Bruce had been so careless that they had to have somebody in the group, somebody who possessed an authoritative power.

The contract that bound Amelia to Bruce and the Pack was introduced to Ema’s mind. At the time it was just expedient for him to do so, as it gave him the assurance and insurance of her loyalty. But now that the agreement was expiring soon Ema saw a chance to take Luna’s position, and secondly to protect the Pack from the threat that they did not invite but brought into their lives.

Ema inhaled and prepared for what could turn out to be an explosive meeting that may shift the dynamics of the game. She stealthily left her room, hiding the book in the inner pocket of her jacket, and moved past the Packhouse in dead silence to Bruce’s study.

Because one of the vital tendencies is hospitality, Ema opened the heavy oak door without even attempting to knock. Bruce glanced up from his desk startled to momentarily break into a frown that was back shortly behind the stern air he portrayed.

He looked into her eyes, at a low volume, and he responded, calmly, gently, “Ema. What do you want, you visiting at this hour of the night?”

This time Ema boldly took one step forward, and she could be seen in the flame of her eyes. She looked as if she desperately wanted to say something that would blow Bruce’s mind and with a whisper, that was filled with so much passion that it was almost eerie, she uttered, “I know what she is, Bruce… ” “You already know what it is that you have brought into our Pack,” Ema responded.

Bruce's face stayed expressionless, He looked at her calmly, and replied, “I’m sorry, I have no idea what you’re speaking of,” in a cold manner.

Ema angrily placed her hands on his table and spat, “Do not try to act stupid on me. ” “And the priceless partner of yours? Is she not a hybrid? "

After that, there was an awful silence for a while. Bruce frowned and Ema saw that he looked ready to pounce on anyone, like an alpha wolf in sheep’s clothing. He spoke again, in a voice that was too low, and rather unpleasant to listen to. And if she is? How about it?

Ema chuckled bitterly. “What’s the matter? Bruce, are you really that dumb? Hybrids are dangerous. That’s why they are outliers. The balance that we both know we constructed is in jeopardy because of these hybrids. ”

“You do not have a clue what it is you are saying,” Bruce grumbled rising from his chair. “Amelia helped this Pack the moment she arrived; the only thing she has done is show loyalty. ”

“And what is the duration of that?” Ema posed a question and rained on their parade. When will the real one surface? Before she stabbed all of us in the back? "

Bruce’s animation grew and in his eyes the passion of a man who was more than willing to take on an adversary boiled with boundless intensity. Ema, are you disoriented already? Remember where you’re seated.

"My place?" Ema scoffed. “Bruce, you don’t have to choose because I am coming to stand by your side as your Mate and Luna. Tell me that this woman has almost come to the end of her contract with this Pack and I am telling you that I want her out, now. ”

Bruce furrowed his brow. Ema, this is not the case since the contract we agreed on has one month to expire. You are familiar with the phase. "

“As far as I am concerned, the terms are completely irrelevant,” Ema said shrugging her shoulders and scowling dangerously. ”I want her out now. You will never know just how many people I can get to open their eyes and realize the kind of monster you have in your company is alive if you don’t let her go. ”

This kinda tension that existed between them was filled with a kind of threatening heaviness. Bruce’s eyes turned even darker and Ema wondered for half a moment whether she overstepped the limit with him. His gaze was intimidating, however, she did not back down rather she gave him a firm look and stood her ground.

‘You would not dare,’ Bruce spewed the words out angrily, bringing out the deeper intonation of his voice.

"Wouldn't I?" Ema countered. ‘Just think about it, think about the Pack, Bruce, how they and all the other Packs would react if they discovered that their alpha had mated with a hybrid?’ Soon everything will collapse, all that was achieved through mediation and negotiations you contributed to, all the alliances – funerals. ’

Ema could also notice that there was fighting going on inside Bruce, in the muscular contraction of his jaw from behind the eyes. Knowing that he was weakening she went on.

”Bruce, I know that you have fallen in love with her but it is high time that you let her go She will not bother you or even me again because she will be gone. In exchange for her, I will keep your secret, if only you sign the contract that she gives you and destroy it. ”

To a good number of people, Bruce looked as if he had grown a new set of horns; for quite some time, he said nothing. In some cases, the atmosphere was tense enough so, at least, one could choke on this tension, especially at the times when individuals were focused on expressing their views; Finally, he could breathe out a very faint and disputed murmur. "And if I decline?"

Ema put her hand inside the pocket of the jacket; that is where she kept the old book. ‘Then I will ensure that from here to the coast, people shall know the real Amelia – the deceiver, the liar. ’ And I’ll stay and watch the happiness you’ve built with your labor disintegrate before your eyes. "

It was quite impossible to understate the threat that loomed large with chilling effect. Bruce was angered, feared and there was something that resembled despise mixed with fear and perhaps even respect reflecting in his eyes. After which he took some time to deliberate, taking a deep breath indicating that the decision he was about to make was final.

Last of all he was almost threatening when he said, “You are playing a dangerous game, Ema. ” “You do not know what you are getting into. ”

Ema fired back, “I know perfectly well what I am dealing with. ” “Are you ready to risk all you hold dear; your mate, pack, and position just to hold me a prisoner against my wish?”
