“ It's fine Landon “.

By the next morning,what happened in the hospital room was all over online and on the News. People were no longer bitching about me being married to her or the other way around.

Everyone they interviewed had something good to say about her. It was all done. After three weeks I finally left the hospital. The first thing I did was have Shawn call off all the plans he had in motion regarding Garrett. James let me know Renee kept Calling him but he never answered. After her mother's body was exhumed the examiner found very small traces of strychnine and that was enough for them.

Alexis was bound to a wheelchair for the rest of her life and I didn't really care. Their trial would be coming up soon. I didn't want to go neither did Avery but they summoned her so we had no choice. We were sitting outside in the garden when I saw Landon walking towards us with her cousin.

“ Boss , she was searched. She wouldn't leave. She's been standing outside for five hours. She said she needed to speak to Mrs Woods ”.

I looked at Avery , she didn't look annoyed or anything, just Normal.

“ What do you want,Resa?”.

“ I'm sorry . I'm sorry for everything I did and Said to you. They made up some compelling stories and pictures. I'm not making excuses for my behaviour but I wanted to apologise. Mom had realised what she had done was Wrong and she's aware that she'll be spending time in Jail and it's her fault.”.

“ Mr Woods, I'm sorry for everything I said to you and the way I spoke about Avery”. She turned and looked at Landon. “ I'm sorry for hitting you. It was the way I was raised and it was always drilled into my head that, If you had enough money you're powerful enough to do anything and I thought I was always right, only now do I see that not only wasn't I right but I was wrong in Every Way and I need to reevaluate myself as a person “.

“ I have no family left except uncle Garrett. I know your husband is trying to teach us a lesson by messing with the family business. can please give that back to me. Our company. I will Stay out of your life Avery, I won't bother you and you'll never see me again. Please “.

She looked at her cousin. “ You know I used to admire you because you were smart and always put together then you Started to be mean to me and I had no idea why”.

“ It's your Choice princess”. She looked at me.

“ Just let me be Resa. I never wanted this. You'll get your father's company ,try and do better “.

“ I will, Thank you Avery, Thank you Mr Woods”.

After she left I looked at her. “ Love are you sure?”.

She smiled and leaned into me.
“ There was a time when Resa was kind , loving and caring towards me. I was thirteen. Renee and Alexis always threatened me not to say a word. Aunt Janice didn't know Resa used to visit me. Whenever she came she brought me presents and stuff then it just stopped and the next time I saw her she was downright mean. A few minutes ago I saw the Resa that I used to know,that smart, kind and caring Resa”.

“ Okay if you're sure. But I'll still have someone keeping an eye on them”.

Avery

“ Okay love”.

I was almost three months pregnant. My morning sickness had lessened. I had exams and there was no way to avoid it. I had to go to classes. So Monday morning I was driven to college by Landon and Teo. Four other security cars were with us. Landon would wait outside for me.

When we drove onto campus everyone just stopped and stared at me. I didn't say anything, I headed into the exam Hall, with Landon beside me. Dean Winston was waiting for me by the door.

“ Morning Avery, How are you?”.

“ I'm okay Mr Winston”.

“ Okay. I made a few calls and pulled a few strings. You won't take your exams with everyone else. Your husband made a very Big contribution towards the college so the higher ups don't want to offend him. You'll take your exams in a different room alone. Every Exam will be a different examiner and in a different room, your security detail will be able to go in with you “.

“ Thank you Mr Winston,but it wasn't necessary”.

“ I know but Mr Woods confided in me about something and he said you were liable to throw up and I didn't want anyone speculating “.

“ Okay,Thank you”.

“ It's fine Dear. Come on let me take you there”.

We headed over to the other side of the building and I went into the music room. An older woman was there with a stack of papers.

“ Mrs Woods,my name is Mrs Margaret Paige. I'll be your examiner for this Subject. Please let's have a seat and begin “.

“ Good morning Mrs Paige . Thank you “.

I sat down on the one desk that was placed in the middle of the room and she handed me the paper. Landon was sitting behind me by the wall.

That's the way my life went for the past two weeks.Today was Friday and It was my last exam. I was finished and going over my notes, when suddenly I heard it and saw the wood above where my head was splintering .I was grabbed and pulled down to the ground. I looked at Landon and he was shielding me.

The examiner Mr Walters looked terrified.

“ Stay down sir. Backup will be here soon Mrs Woods”.

I heard running, the door opened and Teo and the others rushed in. They started closing the blinds in the window. I got up and went to Mr Walters. He looked shaken. I handed him my papers.

“ I am extremely sorry for this Mr Walters. There hasn't been an incident all week. I'm truly sorry “.

He took my paper from me and stood up.

“ It's not your fault Dear girl. You checked on me first and you apologise when it's not your fault. Be careful and take care of yourself. Let your security detail take care of you. Best of luck Mrs Woods “.

“ Thank you Mr Walters”. After he left I looked at Landon. “ Did you get hurt? “.

“ No, thankfully I moved in time or Boss would probably put a bullet in mine . Come on, we gotta get you out of here. The Dean is clearing the hallway for us. Stay in the middle with me”.

“ Okay”.

I was in a meeting when Teo called and said someone took a shot at her. I wanted to leave but he assured me , That Landon said she was unhurt and so was he and the examiner. I told them to get her home and find out who. When I got back to my office I called her.

“ I'm okay, we're okay. Just a bit shocked. I'm already home”.

“ Okay, that's good.. you're not leaving the house for a while. Classes are done right?”.

“ Yes “.

“ I'm sorry princess. We'll figure it out, I promise”.

“ Okay. You're lucky I love you or if I didn't I would have already ran for the hills screaming “.

” Well thank God you love me. I'll see you soon baby girl”.

“ Okay “.

I ended the call and sat there. I made a few calls. The first call said Garrett Anderson was just keeping his head down and going about his day to day activities, running his business and then home. He hasn't made any Suspicious calls. All his calls are about his business.

My second call said Resa McLean was busy running her late father's business. She spends most of the time at the company. She has made any Suspicious calls or there hasn't been anything to raise their suspicion.

I ended the call and sat there. Who the fuck was taking shots at my wife. I sat up instantly and called Landon.

“ Boss, She's okay”.

“ I know. Clarissa Peralt. I'm suspecting her. Find out for me”.

“ I'm on it Boss “.

I ended the call just as Shawn walked in with a young man.

“ Mr Woods, this is Dan Miller and Accountant “. The only time Shawn Addresses me as Mr Woods is when it's something extremely important.

“ What can I do for you Mr Miller?”.

“ Sir the Attenborough project commenced this week and I work with the team closely. Ms Peralt was here earlier today. Everyone in the company knows Avery is Mrs Woods. I was heading to lunch and as I was about to turn the corner, I heard someone that sounded like Ms Peralt giving someone orders to ummm”.

“ Umm what?”.

“ Well in Ms Peralt’s words ‘ Take the shot. That little bitch disrespected me. Kill her then I'll become Mrs Woods”.
He began tugging at the neck of his shirt. I picked up my phone and texted him.

“ Have a seat Mr Miller “.

“ Yes Mr Woods”.

Within twenty minutes My assistant walked James in. “ Someone took a shot at her while she was taking her exam”.

“ Shit. Is she okay?”.

“ Yes , thankfully Landon moves fast. This is Mr Miller. Mr Miller please repeat what you said to me and the VP for officer James “.
