Chapter 66

Jake

I watched as she left with Irene, Sherry and Cassy. Cassy happily followed her. I had the strangest feeling of being watched. When I looked up, Leila was standing by the window looking at Avery and the others walking away. When she saw me, she smiled and moved away.  I headed into my office and called Teo in. 

“You’re going to go to the hospital. Garret Andreson, my wife’s father. Get him from the hospital and take him over to Avery’s House. I’ll call Landon to let him know that Andrea and Cassy will be staying there also”,

“Okay Boss”. He said and left. 

I was going over some documents when I heard a knock on the door. “Come in”. The door opened and Renauta came in. “Can we talk”? She asked. 

“Sure” I said, nodding at the chair. She took a seat in the chair and looked at me.

“I never expected you to become who you are. I don’t say this to sound rude or anything, but your wife, I mean, isn’t she a bit too young for you? You’re thirty years old and she’s eighteen. People will talk”, she said. 

“So? People can talk all they want; she’s not going anywhere. She’s not just my wife, but she’s my other half, the mother to my child and only her. Biologically, you may be my mother, but you lost all rights when you left me at that orphanage. Don’t ever talk about my wife”, I said, looking at her.

“That is fair. Umm, Lelia, said you have breakfast with your employees”?

“My employees are my family. Landon has been working for me since I started my business. Irene worked for my wife’s mother before and after my wife was born. Sherry and Esther have worked for my wife for as long as she can remember”, I said, looking at her, making sure she understood.

“Okay then, I’ll let you get back to your work. Oh, I saw your wife go over to the house next door”, she said.

“That is her house”, I said, opening my laptop.

“Okay”, she said, she opened the door and left. I called Landon and told him that the house was being prepared for Andrea and Cassy to take her there. After a bit of threatening, he agreed. I was still in the office when she came in hours later with Amelia in her hands. She sat down on the couch.

“I left Sherry over at the house with them. Garret is settled, so are Andrea and Cassy. Babe, can we make a gate in the fence? It’ll be easier for everyone”, she said, looking at me.

“Of course we can love”, I said, sitting beside her. I took Amelia from her and looked at her. She was asleep. Come on, why don’t you go grab a shower first, I’ll keep her, then we’ll have dinner”, I said, kissing her.

“Okay and Jake”

“Yes princess”?

“Thank you for being with me”, she said, smiling.

“Always baby girl”, I said, stealing a kiss.

Avery

After my shower, I took care of Amelia. We were having dinner; throughout dinner I could see Renauta and Lelia looking at me. Irene and Esther were with us. I felt Irene touch me; I looked at her and smiled. I saw James walking in, he was still in his uniform. I felt Irene touch me again. I looked at her, and she motioned towards Leila and Renauta. I saw the panicked look on their faces, but they hid it as fast as it had appeared. 

“Hello snugs”, he said, smiling. Jake grabbed my hand.

“Do you like getting her angry”, he said, looking at James. He just smiled and walked past me to Amelia. He bent down and looked at her. 

“Hello little princess. Your mommy is a bully, she likes to throw things”, he said.

“I’ll let her go, and then you can fend for yourself”, Jake said, shaking his head.

“What do you want, James”? I turned and looked at him.

“I’m not here to talk to you. I’m here to talk to your husband and to see this little cutie pie”, he said. Of course. “Can I Avery”? He asked quietly. 

“Go ahead”, Jake said. James just smiled. He picked Amelia up and sat down with her. He started talking to her in some gibberish. I just shook my head. After dinner, he and jake left, and he took Amelia with him. 

“Who is he”? Renauta Asked

“James Winston, a police officer and a family friend”, I said, helping Irene clear the table. 

“You allow him to hold Amelia”, Leila asked.

“Yes. Irene, Sherry, Esther, Landon, Shawn, James and Andrea are the only people allowed to touch my daughter”, I said.

“But mom is Amelia’s grandmother. Shouldn’t she be able to hold her granddaughter”? Lelia asked 

“Haha. If I don't let my own father hold her, why should I let your mother? Just because she’s Jake’s mother. Sorry but no, my house my rules”. I said, picking the dishes up.

“This is my brother’s house. Does Nathan even know how you speak to us”?, Leila said, and I had enough. 

I slammed the plate down, breaking it. “Jake. His name is Jake. Not Nathan, but Jake. Do you think I give a shit what you named him? You’re the goddamn woman that fucking abandoned him” I all but yelled at her. 

“What happened”? I heard him say, as he made his way to me. The minute he got closer, he handed Amelia to Irene and grabbed my hand. 

“Love you're bleeding”, he said, grabbing a napkin and wrapping it around my hand.

He looked at them.” What did you say to my wife”? He asked, and I knew that tone.

“Mom was just asking her about holding your daughter, and she went off on us”, Lelia said with a hurt tone and, in that second, I realized what they aimed to do. I pulled my hand away from jake and looked at him.

“I don’t want them here”, I said. 

“Princess”, he said quietly. 

“I said I don’t want them here Jake, put them at a hotel”, I said, making it clear.

“Avery, no” he said. I turned and looked at him. I saw the smirk Leila tried to hide. I took Amelia from Irene and walked out. Irene was right behind me and so was Jake.

“Love, where are you going”? 

“Anywhere BUT FUCKING HERE”, I yelled at him.

“Avery cut it out”, he said. I opened the door to the tank he bought, and the keys were inside. I handed Amelia to Irene. “Get in Irene”, I said. She didn’t ask, she got in with Amelia.

“Avery”, he said, and I know he was trying not to get mad at me. 

“Try stopping me, and you’ll regret it”, I said, getting into the tank and starting it. 

Jake 

Fuck this was a mess. I couldn’t tell her, and I could let them leave either. I watched as she drove out through the gates. I called Landon and told him what had happened. He said he would go find her. James basically told me that Lelia wasn’t her real name and she and Renauta weren’t related. So that leaves the question of how they knew so much about me and why did the DNA result came back positive. The result was real so how. 

I headed back inside and looked at them. “I’m sorry Nathan, I didn’t mean to upset your wife. I just wanted to hold my granddaughter. I screwed up with you and just want to make it right”, Renauta said.

“Nathan? No Nathan was the child you abandoned. My name is Jake and will be for the rest of my life. When my wife returns you will both apologize to her, or you’ll find yourself out of here and I will never see either of your faces again, is that understood”? I said, looking at them.

“Yes, we’ll apologize to her, we’re sorry”, Renauta said quietly. I left them there and headed back to my office. I called Landon but he didn’t answer. Three hours later, my phone vibrated, and I saw the message from Landon coming in.

“Sorry Boss, I can’t answer because she said she would kick my ass if I told you where she was. I am with her. They are safe, both of them, on the beach property. I have security details with me. They’ll be safe. She doesn’t want to return. Irene will call you and explain what happened because the Mrs. is still angry”.

I replied okay, five minutes later my phone rang. I answered and listened as Irene told me what was said. I told her to take care of them and ended the call. Fuck this, I don’t care who they were, they weren’t about to fuck with my wife. I headed back out to the living room, but they weren’t there. I was heading to the kitchen when I heard them. I stood listening to them, and the more I heard, the angrier I became.
