Chapter 23
After about 20 minutes of running full speed, I notice 2 rouges patrolling the border walking towards the direction I’m running in. Without stopping, I scale the closest tree and sit on a high branch to watch them.
Rogue 1: “When do you think they’ll kill that damn alpha?”
Rogue 2: “I don’t care as long as it’s painful. He’s killed too many of our members and forced us to follow his rules. I want to be right up in front when they execute him in 2 days.”
Rogue 1: why are they waiting so long anyway?
Rogue 2: They want to kill the Luna first, but that’s as much as I know.
Rogue 1: I hate it out here, it feels like eyes are watching me, how much longer til we get a radio check-in?
Rogue 2: “hahaha, 2 minutes, just bare it for 2 more minutes.”
Silently, I pull out my 2 karambits. I really love these knives. Once they completed their check-in I silently jump down behind them and slit their throats at the same time. They didn't even know what was happening. All my knives are dipped and soaked in a special combination of poisons, once it gets in the bloodstream it stops the blood from clotting, canceling out any kind of healing abilities. Even if someone manages to stop or control the bleeding, the other present poisons will do a number on the heart, lungs, and brain. I prefer to have as fast a kill as possible. I quickly drag their bodies behind the tree and make my way to our family pack house. Avoiding them is easy because their stench is a dead giveaway. I've never had many iissues with rogues and neither did my father, the only rogues we've ever had problems with were the ones that always tried to attack packs for personal gain. Some of them would attack she-wolves, they used to kidnap and hold them for days, raping and abusing them. Of course we stepped in, I was apart of dozens of those missions to rescue or retrieve some of their bodies. Even with all that they had done, we didn't kill them all. Instead we set up regulations for them to follow, gave them unclaimed land for them to roam freely without any issues but I see now that we were too merciful.
The one thing that I can't seem to wrap my head around though is how this betrayal succeeded. Where are my father's and my brother's betas, gammas, and deltas? Are they in on this too? How long was this being planned? And what is going on with the warriors and the rest of the pack? Most importantly, why didn't I feel that something was wrog sooner? Sticking close to the perimeter, I avoid and kill the patrolling rogues as I see fit. Now comes the riskier part, clearing the open field between the pack community and the woods. Our pack lands are designed so that it's easy to see anyone anything approaching from the perimeters. Thankfully, I know these lands more than anyone and discovered one blindspot from all our sensors or cameras. In order to stay invisible, you need speed and precision. Taking a deep breath and concentrating, I sprint as fast as physically possible, zigging and zagging across the field until I make it to the pack clinic for our warriors. I scale the five balconies up to the roof, where I scope out my next route. Looking at my watch I see that it's just 6:00 pm. From here, I have to make my way through another short open field, and then the training grounds, and make my way to the packhouse. The main civilian areas are on the far north east of the warrior clinic thankfully. I'll deal with this side first, once I get the warriors back under my command and reclaim our defenses then I'll handle the civilian side of things. As I'm about to make my way down from the roof, I hear some rogues burst through the front side of the clinic.
Rogue 3: "I swear I'm gonna gut that freaking doctor once this all over and we kill the alpha" he says holding his bandaged left arm, "he stitched me up with any numbing medicine for half the procedure!"
Rogue 4: "There's no way they'll let you kill the best doctor in the pack, so you're just gonna have to get over it."
Rogue 3: "I don't care, once the alpha dies I'm personally gonna kill that doc"
"Doc Jace is here, he definitely knows what's going on," I say to myself as I head over to the door to stairs and make my way down to find him.
Jason's POV
By 5:45 PM I was back home in my pack. I'm currently on my way to check on a small pack that I took over a year ago. I got news that there was a rogue attack yesterday. We lost a few warriors and pack members, so I'm on my way to assess the damage and get a report on how this happened. All rogues are supposed to be aware that this pack is under my protection. I sent Ron to go and check on Alpha Black without me, he's going to give me an update once he gets there and after he gets an idea of what's going on. As I pull up to the pack perimeter I check the time, 6:15 pm, there should be a 2 man patrol making their way to me now. One minute later the patrol arrives, “Alpha Jason you made it” one of them say. “How was today?” I ask. Sighing, alpha we lost one more pack member to injuries from the attack, and some of the women were taken”, Leon answers. “I will need a full briefing after your patrol” I say before continuing to drive down to the pack house. As I pull up to the pack house I see the damages caused by the rogues, there were still blood stains on the ground. I make my way to my office and I wait for my warriors to come and give me a report about what happened. After a 30 minute debriefing I find out that 3 girls were taken from this pack. I call my gamma back at home and make arrangements for him to lead a small group of warriors to get them back. Taking a look at the clock, I remember that Ron hasn't called me yet, so I text him asking for an update. 20 more minutes pass and I still don't have a response from him so I call him. No answer. What's going on?
