Chapter 35

Alpha Jason's POV

Fear.

That is the only word that can describe how I feel at the moment. Luna Sarah is already tired from the internal injuries from Sapphire wearing her off. She looks weak, like she can no longer go on, and at the same time, moving on is her only choice, she has to help her daughter.

I look at Sapphire; I'm staring both at her and Alpha Sarah, but my gaze is on her. How pretty she looks, with the green flame overshadowing all the others and remaining dominant while she lays there silently.

Doctor Jace stands by Sarah's side, a worried look etched in his brows. It is not a good sign, but the fact that Alpha Black is not worried gives me some form of hope, some kind of inner peace, and assurance that everything will be okay in the end.

He places his hand on my thigh, and I jerk out of my thoughts.

“Alpha Jason, there are many more challenging things you will face, and this is just the least of them. She is Alpha Luna, next in line to lead my pack, the second greatest pack, and she has been doing so well all her life.” He glances at her, and I see a tear drop from his eyes. My heart sinks.

He turns back to me almost immediately, like nothing is going through his mind. His mood has lightened.

“Cheer up, young champ, they'll both be alright,” he pats my back for support.

There's a thump, and we look at them, only to find Luna Sarah on the floor. Sapphire's flame is still glowing, but it is blue now.

“Sarah!” Alpha Black lunges towards her and crouches down beside her, picking her head up and placing it gently on his legs.

Doctor Jace comes forward and examines her. We all looked intently and nervously, awaiting an answer that seemed to be taking forever to come.

“She will be fine.” I heaved a sigh of relief when he spoke those words. Alpha Black picked her up and placed her on another bed next to Sapphire. He looked around the room at all of us, muttered a silent and relieved thank you, and walked out of the room.

I simply stared deadpanned.

I walked out of the room a few seconds after he did not, with the intention of going after him though. I needed time to think about everything. A lot of things have been happening, and I haven't gotten time to reflect on them.

I was given a second chance at love and having a mate, but at what cost? This is an Alpha Luna who had given up on love, and then her am I? I was a hopeless Alpha male with no form of love or relationship to look up to. How am I supposed to love her with everything that happened in my past and everything that's happening currently?

“Mmmm,” I heard someone behind me. I turn to look, and I find Leo behind me, quietly arranging the dressing table even though there was nothing to arrange.

“What is going through the mind of the famous Alpha Jason?” He asks, finally coming to me.

He opens his arms for a hug, and I accept it, knowing that I need a real hug right now and someone to talk to.

“There are a lot of things on my mind.” I replied and let go of him. I pace around the room a few times and then clench my fist as more thoughts keep coming and making me bitter.

“She is an elemental.” Leo had a puzzled look on his face. Clearly expressing that he knew nothing of what I said.

“What in the name of the goddess is that?” He asked, almost laughing, but since he knew it was a serious matter, he controlled himself.

“She's an elemental. I am not even sure what it means.” I confessed and allowed the words to sink deep into me. I didn't know what it meant to be an elemental. I know that the moon goddess creates some people and blesses them with special abilities for special purposes in their lifetime, but this was my first time hearing of an elemental or seeing one.

I ran my hand through my hair and walked over to my bed to sit down. Leo follows me and sits next to me. Sitting on the edge of the bed, he leans out and faces me. I finally saw the sadness he was hiding.

“So what does this mean for Sapphire now?” He plays with his hands as he speaks, probably trying to calculate his words and make his good intentions known at the same time.

I felt extra pain. Seeing a childhood friend like this was not something one could easily take, and even though I was not best friends with him, at this moment, I felt like I understood what he was going through.

“I don't know. I will speak to Alpha Black, but right now he is also worried; we need to give him some time.” I turned to see him wipe a tear from his eyes.

“Have you seen her?” He asked. I knew it was obviously rhetorical because I had been with her all the while. Why then would he ask me that?

“She looks so helpless.” He spat out. That was when I saw his true emotion, anger. Rage had clouded his mind and his reasoning, and I couldn't blame him. I have only known Sapphire from a distance for two months, and I love her deeply already. As for him, he has known her all her life, and now seeing her like this breaks him to his weakest.

He stands up and wipes his eyes dry forcefully. Paces up and down a while and then turns to me. He is about to speak but pauses and kicks the foot of a stool instead and lets out a howl of surrender.

He is calmer as he looks at me now, locking eyes.

“The moon goddess chose you for her, so better do right by her.”
