Chapter 27
Seth's POV
"Splat!"
In the dark I hear the wet gurggles as the warm blood splashes me from across the table. The other rogues are in a panic trying to figure out what's going on. "They're strong" my wolf Mikal admits, "we have to be careful, we have to hold them off until tomorrow. How did they even get on pack lands without us knowing?". "I don't know" I say as I look around in the darkness. That's when I saw it, the blood orange eyes. Eyes filled with rage, and they were looking right at me, causing my heart to stop for a moment. "By the bookshelf!" I yell to the others. It didn't make a difference though because the sounds of their blood hitting the floor filled the room. There were 8 of us here, but within the span of 2 minutes I was the only one left. I attack them head on and we exchange punch for punch. How we managed not to trip over the dead bodies that lay around I really don't know. All I know is that this would be a fight to the death. I start to shift knowing that they would attack me next, but before I could fully shift I feel a wet hand grab me by throat as they push a blade through my right shoulder, pinning me to the wall behind me. "Stand down", I hear them say. I open my eyes and those eyes are right in front of me now, "who are you?" I squeeze out as they apply more pressure to my throat. They repeat their order and this time I feel the full force of their alpha command forcing me to submit to them. "Damn!" I say to myself in frustration. I don't know which alpha this is, I thought we had tabs on everyone. Not being able to withstand the power of their command I bare my neck in submission. I can't feel Mikal which means the knife's been dipped in wolfbane, I have no choice but to submit right now.
They step away from me, a few seconds later I see a square screen in the wall light up and they punch in a code. The light comes on immediately and then a sound plays over the loud speakers, a growl, it gave me goosebumps. As I look around the office, I see the bodies of those seven rogues. There's blood splattered everywhere, they stand a chance, I'm guessing it's only been about 20 mins, that's all it took, 20 mins to kill 7 strong rogues, and force me into submission. "I guess I should count myself lucky that I'm just pinned to a wall" I say out lout. Turning to look at me, the mysterious alpha says, "lucky? If you ask me, I think they're the lucky ones in this situation". As they stare at me, I once again feel their murderous intent. I hold my head down again to avoid their glare. "Let's make this quick, I'm not really here for you, where's the alpha?" they ask as they go to sit behind the desk. "He's not here," I answer. "Well no shit sherlock, I didn't ask if he was here did I?" they say removing one of their gloves. As they take off the glove I noticed that they had freshly done nails, "you're a woman?" I ask confused. Looking over at me, "Yes" she answers, "and an assasin, and an alpha".
"Who are you? I've never heard of a female assasin that's an alpha, I say trying to go over all the female alphas in the region, it didn't help that she had on a ski mask. "Where's the alpha?" she asks again. Sighing, "you didn't need to come here, he's gonna be dead tomorrow, we did your job for you", I say hoping she'd see that we could be on the same side. "Did my job for me? how'd you do my job if he's still alive?" she asks, "he's barely alive, once we kill his mate it won't take much to end his life" I cut her off. She starts chuckling and shaking her head and says, "It would have been best to kill his mate first, that would have left him weak enough to kill with a single stab. But, I really don't care about your plan, I'm here for him and I intend to find him. If you coorperate I can let you go". With a smirk I answer, "I'm not stupid enough to believe you". She shrugs her shoulders and says, "It's not like you'll be any kind of threat to me, you're weak, wounded, and have no access to your wolf right now, there's nothing you could actually do to hurt me".
She's right, I'm in no condition to put up a fight, holding my head down I ask, "You won't kill me?". Closing her eyes and nodding her head, "I won't kill you" she assures me, "I really don't need you to find him, but I prefer getting my jobs done quickly, so I don't mind sparing a life here or there if it benefits me". I can't tell if I can trust her or not but if there's a chance for me to get out of this alive I'll take it. Sigh, "He's in the far west unclaimed lands in an abandoned building, guarded by dozens of beta rogues" I tell her. "Come on, tell me something I don't already know," she says with her head back. "He'll be moved again to the buildings around it, they're all connected by tunnels. If anyone attempts to come after or find him they'll move him". "When she hears this she stops swinging in the chair, "okay, that will work". Then she walks over to me and pulls the bowie knife out of my shoulder. She grabs me by the collar, "oh, you're coming with me, I really don't like being lied to so I hope you're telling the truth". "Would you at least let me bandage my shoulder?" I ask. "You'll be alright, I didn't hit any arteries so it won't kill you," she says without even looking at me. Once she opens the office door all the other remaining rogues that were on pack grounds were waiting for us a few feet from the door. This is my chance I think to myself and run towards them. They charge towards her, but again the yelling and growls are slowly replaced by wet gurggles and the sound of blood splashing the walls. I run until I make it to the perimeter and keep going. Thinking I'm far enough I stop to catch my breath, then I feel a wet hand grab my neck from behind and push me into the dirt, "Now that wasn't very nice, how could you leave me back there and escape by yourself?" is the last thing I hear before the darkness swallows me.
