Chapter 51

Sapphire's POV

I was between love and hurt, trapped between forgiveness and anger.

"Let's fix things between us, I'm sure we will do well this time," Jason whispered.

At that moment, his embrace was both comforting and agonizing. In my moment of hurt I still felt like staying in his arms forever.

"So, let's start on a new note," I said, turning to him.

"Finally," Enya exclaimed, bubbling with joy.

I looked into his eyes as he picked my hands to his mouth, kissing it and caressing it.

"Thank you, Sapphira, thank you for giving me a place in your heart again. " He kissed my hands again, just as I smiled, my eyes locked at his.

" I must ask you for one thing, Sapphire."

Oh, great, we just reunited and he's asking for a favor.

"And what would that be?" I asked trying not to sound disappointed by the fact he was already asking for favors.

"Please, release your heart, don't let it close shut to love and hope for a better life and experience. Don't let your past traumatize you. "

" Of course I would, and it would work perfectly well if those I love and cherish stop breaking my heart, " I replied, freeing myself from him and walking towards the sleek, black marble-topped bar, stocked with premium liquor.

"Sapphire, let's start anew, as an alpha you should learn to start things anew."

I ignored his comment as I reached out to help myself with a drink. The collection had everything from top shelf whiskey to vodka. I reached out for a Glenfiddich 18 year old Scotch whiskey.

"You know, Jason, maybe you should have your heart broken, then maybe you'll learn how to keep mine together." I said. I was already back to my former self, getting back to the sarcastic jokes I shared with Jason.

"Well, if you wish to do that," he paused, walking up to me, "then we would do it simultaneously. I break yours and you'll break mine. How would that be?" He was already in front of me, resting his elbow on the table.

"Please let me drink, I've cried enough." I poured myself a generous shot, feeling the weight of the crystal glass in my hand.

"If you must drink, then we'll drink together," he said as he reached out to a glass cup, wiping the interior with his hand.

"Oh, I was drunk yesterday, to be drunk again today?" The flavors of caramel, apple, and the hint of spice danced around me.

"A shot, please?"

"Of course you'll get it, but you surely must sit down or you'll trip. This drink would surely break your....arm." I paused, realizing that my sarcastic words were choked by my hurt.

I poured wine on my cup and did the same to Jason's cup.

Taking a gulp of the drink and dropping it on the table quickly, "So tell me, Jason, why would an Alpha appoint a she wolf as his heir?"

Taking a bench and sitting on it close to mine, " well, I believe he has a good reason, you know, watching you grow and become the great she-wolf that you've become must have made him choose you as his heir," he said, his hands resting on his chin as he took his gulp.

He was still bare chested and I couldn't help to notice his muscles rippling in the sunlight coming from the window.

"And what would you mean by that? And how did you think that I was referring to myself and my dad?"

" You are the only female Alpha in this continent, you know, and surely I could only think of you when you talk about....you,"

" Whatever that means," I said, pointing the glass cup at him.

" You're getting drunk Sapphire," Enya said.

"Well of course I am, and I always would be,"

"Oh gosh," Enya replied just before she went back inside.

"What were you saying? Yes, my Father chose me for a reason, and what would thet be?" I asked.

He took the liquor bottle and poured himself a drink of it. " Qualities, Sapphire, qualities that can't be found in a male wolf."

I topped my cup with the liquor, looking into his eyes, "what qualities? compassion? empathy? the ability to move on after a heartbreak? or pain." I paused, noticing again that my heart was still interfering with my thought process. I took a gulp of the drink again, and the more I did so the more I got dizzy. I really felt good, the pinch of pain in my heart clearing up in every gulp. "Those are the visible weaknesses of a leader,"

" No, my love, your father saw your strength, strategic thinking, and most importantly, he saw courage, the courage to lead male wolves," he paused, taking another gulp of his drink. "He also saw beauty," he added after dropping the cup.

I smiled at the last comment, but my smile quickly waned, as I looked at his build again, noticing how he flexed it now and then, having the suspicion that he flexed them intentionally or not. I just couldn't tell, but I loved how they moved and resonated with his speech. He must have been talking for a long time but I trailed off, admiring his muscles. It drove me crazy, his biceps curling up, his pecs flexing and his shoulders broadening. The liquor was already getting into my head, but his presence and his physique was stronger. The effect of the drink was making my defenses weaker again, for in ordinary time I would have resisted the urge to be with him. I felt my heart racing, my cheeks flushing and my senses getting to heights. It all seemed like the whole world had narrowed to us two. The combination of the strong liquor, his stronger presence, the entire atmosphere and his raw masculinity got my head swooning and spinning.

"Sapphire, Sapphire," I heard him call, wiping his hands in front of my face, bringing me back to reality away from my desire for his body.
I'M MATED TO THE STRONGEST ALPHA MALE
