Chapter 44
Jason's point of view
I bowed my head and roughly shook it, running my hand through my deep black hair and making it a complete mess. Why would Ron, my best friend and my beta, also believe that I tried to kill her? I mean if he believed that then practically anyone could and I wouldn't blame them for it. He knew me better than anyone else so if he believed this, then maybe I was capable of trying to kill my mate.
I looked at him with puppy eyes. He knew what he had said had gotten deep inside my head and not only bruised my ego but hurt my feelings too. I knew that I loved Sapphire and I would never try to hurt her. I only wanted her to walk because seeing her in a wheelchair pained me so much.
“C'mon man,” he got up and bounced into my bed, then he started to punch me lightly, something we used to do to each other as teenagers.
“I was only teasing you. I know how much you love Sapphire and how you're always talking about her and trying to please her and always on her case and all of that. I mean, the last few days were tough for the pack too but you left us for Sapphire.”
I looked back at him giving him a look then he punched me again.
“That doesn't mean the pack forgives you,” we both laughed.
“Thank you.” I took his hand and shook it.
“Anytime bruh.”
He got down from my bed and began to straighten his clothes. I only just noticed that he was dressed up. Not the casual kind of dressing but one that depicted that he was off to somewhere and for a guy like Ron who hadn't found his mate, there was only one place he was going to.
“Hold up, hold up.” I stopped him standing from my bed dramatically stretching my hand out in front of him.
He looked confused at first but got the point later on and started smiling and stroking his beards guiltily.
“And why are you all dressed up?” I asked him to playfully wipe the shoulder of his shirt even though there was no dirt.
“Because, unlike you Alpha, I can't spend my life sobbing over an accident.” He gave me a pity pat on the shoulder and pouted his lips in a sorrowful mock way.
“I'll definitely kill you.” I laughed and punched him lightly in his belly.
He laughed as he crouched down on his knees and put his hands up in surrender and then around his belly again to cater for his hurting belly.
“You forget that you're Alpha and not all of us can even take your play punch.” He reminded me. I laughed and he got up and layed on my bed, arms stretched wide and feet spread across the both ends of it. I laughed and let myself crash into the cushion although I felt really sleepy. I hadn't had a proper rest at night.
I turned to Ron and caught him staring at me with empathy.
“Eww man, what's wrong?” I asked.
“So what next? What are you going to do from here?” He asked back. I hadn't even thought about it. I mean I had but I had chosen to ignore the possibility that Sapphire may never return to me. I rubbed my forehead like doing that would bring some ideas to me.
“I don't know. I've just avoided it and till I figure things out, I'll like to keep avoiding it. It's a lot to be this hurt by your mate. So much that I can't even imagine what she must be going through while the thought of me trying to kill her resurfaces in her head. This is all a misunderstanding that she won't allow me to clear. And even if she does, there are so many evil forces behind her. They all want to use her and they already have the good relationship with her that I need to build. That's where my troubles lie. If only she could realize that they are the worst people for her to be around.”
He shook his head and came to me, crouching down next to me, he pats my shoulder and pulls me up.
“What's your deal??” I ask sluggishly.
“Get dressed, you have to party this pain away.”
I laughed.
“It's not that easy to forget you know. Especially since it was in a club I fell head over heels in love with her.” I said remembering that night.
“Urghhhh. Can't I hear the last of it? You love sick birds. Now get in the shower, have a bath and get ready cause you stink.” I laughed.
“I always knew you were a crazy dude.” I retorted making my way to the bathroom.
“Just go little princess!” He mocked me.
“Oh you didn't just call me a princess.” I sarcastically asked.
“Oh no I didn't your majesty, now can you shut up and shower?”
We both laughed and I closed the door and turned on the shower. Being friends with Ron was therapy on its own.
…………………………………………………
“They have really nice food here.” I commented. First off, Ron and I agreed to try out a new restaurant in town because it was still noon and the club only got active by 4. The restaurant was located in the city center, just in between the urban parts and the suburbs. A really good spot for business because their food was affordable and people could easily get there.
It was called Blob's Chicken spot. And yes, their chicken was really nice.
While we ate, Ron kept looking at all the women that passed. A few were werewolves but the majority were humans.
“You're acting like you need a mate right now,” I teased him.
“No,” he seemed serious, which was really rare for Ron.
“What's wrong?” I asked, trying to tune with his emotions. He seemed to be sensing something. Betas had that special ability, to sense different creatures intensely even if they're about a mile away.
“I sense a female vampire. And she's close, very close.”
