Chapter 52
Sapphire's POV
"Yes.. what did you say?" I asked, channeling my eyes to his.
"Seems like you trailed off at some point. "
" No I didn't. "
" Yes you did."
" I can recall your last statement."
"Alright, let's hear it, " he said, leaning closer to me, his shoulders quite close to my face.
"You're drunk and falling, there's no one to catch you this time, Sapphire," Enya said from within me.
" This time, I'm willing to fall, what's there to lose anyway, I've fallen a lot of times before," I replied her.
" It's my earnest wish that you fall into his arms," she replied.
" We were talking about..... yes, the qualities of a she wolf Alpha, " I recalled with the aid of Enya.
" Bravo to you then, Sapphire, surely you got help from the moon goddess to answer that question, for I saw nothingness in your eyes while talking about that. You were indeed lost in space."
" Well, it's certainly not bad getting help from the moon goddess, we can't do much without her anyway."
I raised the bottle of liquor up, peering through its transparent glass body. "Hmm, with the help of this gentle man, perhaps, gentle wolf, a Glenfiddich 18 year old Scotch is almost empty. Why, two drunk heirs are talking about the qualities of a female leader, how thoughtful of them." I spinned the bottle in a circular manner severally, stopping to look at Jason when I noticed he said nothing.
"What's going on in your head?" I asked him. He locked his eyes to my face, his hands now on his cheek and elbow on the table.
"You'll make a great Alpha."
"And what makes you think so?" I asked, pouring the content of the bottle in my cup. It got filled and I took turns filling that of Jason. Without looking up, "Perhaps you're fooled to believe that I have those qualities that you think are needed to pilot a pack, " I said, just as I filled his cup and dropped the bottle back on the table.
"You know, sometimes a good drink is just what you need to take the edge off, and Glenfiddich 18 is quite having that effect on you both," Enya chipped in.
" A good drink patches up a broken heart, or so they say," I replied, taking a gulp of the drink.
" Your intelligence, wit and determination has slowly earned the respect of top council members of the pack. Your unique ability of bringing people together, listening and understanding their different perspectives has also added to you being the best choice to take over your father. He should be very proud of you." Jason said, taking a long gulp of his drink.
"You must be highly intoxicated, I can see."
" I'm feeling a little tipsy but I'm clear on what I said to you. Your father made the right choice. "
" He's not my Father!!! "
" Oh yes he is. He might not be the owner of the seed that formed you but believe me he is your father. He raised you in love, care and affection. He trained you to be the great person that you are."
" Sure he did. Sometimes I just can't bring myself to believe that he isn't my true father. He loved me and cared for me like anyone would to his daughter," I paused, emptying the content of my glass cup on my mouth. "But what about wars? Can I really make tough decisions?"
" You're not just a she wolf, Sapphire, you're a born leader. You have the blood running through you. An alpha comes in all forms. Your compassion and merciful spirit as a she wolf would certainly help you to make decisions that would draw you closer to the heart of your people." He paused as he stretched his right arm.
The desire was getting stronger.
I tried my best to focus on him, "You really believe in me don't you?"
He nodded, "And your father believed in you too, that's why he looked away from all the pressures to deny you of the throne."
At that moment we heard a knock on the door. Though a bit drunk, we still tried to act in place.
Jason shared a surprised look with me, quickly touching the necklace hanging on his neck. Immediately I understood why he did that.
Vampires.
"I so much hate vampires," he said, his eyes getting red. His fangs were already finding their way out of his flesh.
"What would they want from us?" My voice was reduced to a whisper.
" To be killed, I guess." He said this as he stood up and moved over to the bed to pick up his shirt.
The knock on the door repeated twice.
"Be careful, Jason."
He scoffed, "Careful you say? A vampire would surely be killed at this moment." It would be as easy as he said it, as I knew it would eventually turn into a great tussle, for vampires are known to be strong creatures, and Jason was without any form of weapon.
"Oh no, he needs a sword at least," Enya said, worried for his safety.
"Jason," I called, just as he reached the door and tried to turn the doorknob. I felt Enya buckle up for a fight.
"Take it easy, Enya, it might just be a worker here," I cautioned, seeing that she was about to completely possess all my actions.
"Whatever the case may be, you need to defend yourself against any form of attack against you."
" I'll be fine, I feel no danger around here."
Jason slightly pushed the door open, his claws already fully out. I watched as he put out his head, his entire body was ready to fight
My eyeballs were at it's full dilation. My claws were already out. "Enya!!! stop this instant!!!" I screamed inwardly to my wolf.
"Like it or not, I'll not let anything come against you. "
At the peak of the whole excitement he finally pushed the door half open.
