Chapter 37
Sapphire's pov
“I have something that could help,” he said and I stopped shouting. His blue eyes looked tired and sleepy, it was obvious he hadn't gotten much rest yet.
“What do you have? Let me see it.” I said firmly, trying my best not to show any emotion even though I felt sorry that he has to be here with me at this point. Jason walked to my back, my eyes following his steps and reading meaning into them. They were slow, steady, and tired. He held my chair and started wheeling me to a section of the library that I hadn't been to all my years of training to be the next Alpha.
“Where are we going?” I asked curiosity getting the better part of me.
“Wait and see,” he said assuredly.
He kept going till we got to a part tagged “dark histories”. I was shocked. I'd lived in this packed house all the days of my life and I never knew there was a place like this here. I wonder if my parents knew.
I turned my neck for a better view. Being in this wheelchair stopped me from getting the look around that I wanted. The place was dark and dusty, obviously a few thousand years old. The shelves were made of mahogany wood and the books were old and large books. We reached a hard iron gate that was locked. Jason went forward and tried opening it but it was locked.
“Damn!” He said and ran his hand through his hair. That made my wolf purr. He looked sexy when he did that. I felt a lustful fire start in me but I swayed my mind to the thought of my mother on the hospital bed and I shook Jason off.
“So what are we going to do?” I asked watching him pace.
He turned to me and stopped. Then he clenched his fists and punched the air. He looked round for a brief minute, as if that would magically open the door but then he growled and started shifting.
“Jason!” I yelled trying to stop him from doing that. What was he thinking shifting in a library? I tried to wheel my chair away from him as fast as I could but my attempt was futile. I was so scared, he was angry and from the records of his life, his anger wasn't good, not one bit.
I wheeled till I got into a corner behind a big strong shelf and safe from his eyes before I stopped to peep at what was happening but he had already shifted back and the locks of the gate were on the floor.
“Come out you scare baby,” he teased, a little smirk appearing on his face.
I felt stupid and embarrassed. ‘why did you do that?’ I asked myself slapping my forehead with my palm. I wheeled out looking down all the whole for the fear of our eyes meeting and me feeling embarrassed.
“Why did you do that?” Enya teased. She was laughing.
“Shut up!”
“Seems like someone's sassy,” she remarked. If I could smack her at this point, I definitely will.
I felt his warm hands on my chin, lifting my head to look at him in his crouched position. My heartbeat increased at a very fast pace. My wolf was happy, her mate was so close to her and showing some sort of intimacy that she never wanted to end, but as for me, I didn't want this.
Almost like he read my mind, he let go of my chin and got up straight.
“I only shifted so I could break the lock since we didn't find anything around. You don't need to be scared around me, rather, I'll love it if you could trust me, not with your heart but with your soul.”
I shivered and I noticed he saw because he smiled for a brief moment before going to his serious face.
“You may want to calm your wolf down for a while, we mean serious business,” he said and proceeded to wheel me into the library.
It was dark in there. Cold and damp as well. It looked like a haunted house in movies, with the cobwebs and roaches running round the entire place.
We moved further then he stopped at a desk just before the row of libraries. It looked like what was supposed to be the librarian's table. He picked up a large book and dusted it. It had a lot of dust and it made me sneeze.
“Bless you,” he said without looking back at me. His voice sounded like the most magical thing ever as it echoed because of the hollowness of this place.
How was the library hollow? I turned to make sure that there were in fact books and they were. The books were so much with so many shelves and glancing back at the welcome sign, it was stated that they have over three thousand books. How then was this place hollow? My palms were beginning to sweat.
I wheeled my chair closer to him as he ran his hands through the index of it as if he was looking for something. I stayed still, trying to stop the fear from getting to me but it wasn't working. Especially with the knowledge that I was defenseless if anything happened, I couldn't use my legs and so I was useless.
“What is wrong? I sense a tension in you.” Here I was trying to hide something from my mate like we weren't connected, another dumb thing.
“Did you hear that?” I asked, wanting him to listen for the sound of the echoes.
“Hear what?” It didn't echo this time.
“It echoed, didn't you hear it?” I asked again.
“You're overthinking it. Come, I saw something in here.” He brought the book down and placed it on my legs.
The chapter was titled Elementals. I felt my heart sink.
He looked at me, horridly.
“Whatever you read here, is just what they think, let nothing change the course of your life.” I saw the fright in his eyes and his hands were cold and shaky as he squeezed mine.
“Are you ready?”
I froze, “Yes, yes I am.”
