Chapter 29

Sapphire's POV

As I leave the pack dungeon to go after Seth, I can't help but wonder who that man was. How did he know that I'm the Minx? I want him to be ok but I'm hoping that he forgets who I am. "Someone was bound to recognize you at some point, so it's not really that big of a deal," Enya says suddenly, "more importantly, It's been about 20 or 30 mins since Seth ran off, how far do you think he got?" she asks. "With his wounds, I'd say somewhere close to the middle of first quarter of the forrest," I answer. It wasn't hard to track him, the destabilizer I soak my knives in gives off a distinct scent when mixed with blood. As I follow his scent, I take down 2 rogues that were hiding along the path. After about 15 minutes, I finally catch sight of him. Smirking to myself, I say gotcha. "Now that wasn't very nice, how could you leave me back there and escape by yourself?" I say as I grab Seth by the back of the neck and push him into the ground. He ends up passing out and I ended up carrying him the rest of the way. "Next time don't use so much force," Enya says as I lean Seth's body on the backside of the main building. Looking at my watch, I see that it's now 11pm. I put back on my face mask and tuck my hair back into it. Checking my vest, I'm only missing 2 of my push knives, they must have been left lodged into two rogues back at the pack. I'll be sure to get them back sometime in the morning. Taking a quick look around the area, I see rogues around and throughout the other buildings. It's weird that there aren't many going in and out of this building, "looks like he was telling the truth about dad being in the main building," I say to Enya. "Are we taking the front? or going through the window?" she asks. "Window," I answer, "But what should we do about Seth? What if he wakes up and gets away? He's strong enough to hold out for a while, plus since they have their own destabilizer it means they also have the antidote". "Tie him to the tree," Enya sugests.

After tying Seth to a tree a few feet away from the building, I push open a window and head towards the basement. As I make my way down the hallway to the stairs a big rogue comes charging towards me. Given his size, I had to wear him down a little. We have a little hand to hand combat and I'm caught off guard at the fact that he's holding his own so well. "He's not a regular rogue," I say to Enya, "he has combat experience" she answers back. He lands a kick, but I block it with my forearms. "Che, I guess it's time to get serious," I say as I reach for my karambits and rush him again. Five mintes later, I'm finally in the basement, I walk down this long hallway and stop in front of some double doors. Looking in through the glass, I see where they have my dad chained up to a wall, but I don't think it's really that easy. I wait another two minutes but I don't see or hea anyone in the room with him. I notice that there's a loft with an office above him. That must be where they're hiding, I think to myself. I slowly open the door and step into the shadows. Moving along the walls, I make my way over to dad. Suddenly, the office door above us slams open,

Beta Rogue: "gather everyone to the front now!"
Subordinate: "Yes sir!"
Beta Rogue: "that damned alpha was supposed to be on the other side of the forrest! How'd he even find out about here?"
Subordinate: "The blood creek alpha killed everyone we sent to delay him and made it to Red Pheonix and now he's here,"
Beta Rogue: Are they all dead?
Subordinate: We've been trying to reach Seth but there's no response. We think he's dead.

The Beta rogue sucks his teeth as they go through the door. As I'm about to remove dad's chains I hear someone else coming down the steps, so I hide again in the shadows, this time up on the bottom of the loft. As they made their way down the stairs and stood in front of dad I almost gave myself away. Levius. "He's supposed to be dead, we killed him" Enya says, "he was very dead when we brought that kid back to Red Creek" I add. He stands in front of dad with his hands in his pockets. "Alpha Blackkk," he taunts and slaps the sides of dad's face, "It looks like you didn't have anything to do with my brother's death after all, but I'm sure that you know something about it", he says before taking out his cellphone. As he goes through his phone he keeps talking, “Alpha Black, I only needed a name and location” he says with a sigh, “my brother was killed by black claw. I’ve been investigating for the past 4 years and the only clue lies between your pack and Blood Creek. Alpha Jason is a hard man to get a hold of, but everyone knows that you’re one of the only two alphas he respects and values. Of course he’d come to rescue you, so when the king of rogues himself came to me about this mission I gladly accepted”. Sigh, “Alpha Black, please don’t insult me anymore, I know you’re awake, you should at least open your eyes…thank you. Now, alpha is Black Claw from your pack? Do you know who she is?”

I hear dad cough and answer, “your investigation would’ve told you that no one knows who Black Claw is, no one’s seen her face". Slightly lifting his head, "Levik, If I answered yes or no to your questions it would be a lie," he says weakly. Putting his phone in his pocket with a sigh, "that's true, well since I'm a man of my word, just as I said earlier, if you answered my questions I would leave you be for now". Levik turns to leave but stops again, "Oh I have one more question for you, where is your daughter? My men haven't seen her for years". With a weak chuckle, "your men are either incompetent or liars, Sapphire visits home often. If they haven't seen her in years, then they haven’t been thoroughly scoping out my pack".

Suddenly, there's an explosion from outside.
I'M MATED TO THE STRONGEST ALPHA MALE
