Chapter 43
Jason's pov
I stared at the figure, trying to recognise who it was but couldn't make out the person, he or she was hiding their identity.
“Who are you?” I asked. He cackled; at least I could tell it was a man now, and then I heard the sound of his cackle; that could also help. I called for the maid to take my cup away, but she didn't answer. The house was graveyard silent, and the only possible living creatures awake were me and the man in front of me.
“So are you willing to work with me, or do you need more proof that I know what I am talking about?” He asked me confidently. I needed to hear what he had that made him so bold, bold enough to speak to an Alpha and be so brave.
He started to laugh and paced from side to side. Then he came into the light that illuminated the kitchen, and I saw his face.
“You?”
He smirked, “Yes, me.”
“But… I didn't… I didn't expect you too... be.. how did you find out all of this?” I was shocked that he could do this to her.
“Well, let's just say... all is fair in love and war,” he answered.
“You have to be kidding me,” I said.
“Just tell me what I want to know, and you will be rewarded with whatever you want.” He offered. I furrowed my brows.
“Do you realize who you are talking to?” I asked just to be sure.
“Yes. You are Alpha Jason, and I know that very well.”
“And how dare you speak to me, Alpha Jason, with an offer? I am the greatest of all Alpha's, and you dare try to bribe me.” I roared.
“Calm down,” he said, “do you want to know why Alpha Black is so interested in her?”
“Because he is her father.” I knew he wasn't, but the lie was worth it. I needed him to spill more than I spilt; I needed him to say more than he was supposed to.
“We both know that you know the truth, and I'm definitely not buying into your story.” He said.
I remained silent till he spoke again.
“Well, whenever you're ready for business, you have my digits.”
I watched as he walked away, I ran my hand through my hair and leaned my elbow on my knee. I needed to leave this place. I went upstairs to pack; I was leaving immediately.
………………………………………………
“Welcome back, Alpha.” The servants greeted me as I made my way back into the packhouse. It looked so different. Two weeks away from this place had really done a lot to my memory of it. I kept seeing Sapphire's pack house in the back of my mind and kept envisioning her around me. I missed her. Just when I was so close to getting my mate, I screwed it all up by trying to help her, which she misunderstood as me trying to kill her.
“Arghh,” I growled and threw the clothes I was trying to fold into a corner. I sat on my bed and buried my head in between my legs. I didn't want to leave her there because she is so unsafe alone, and at the same time, they may not harm her, not yet, because they still need her. But if I stayed there, I'd have been hurt. There were too many negative forces that didn't want us to be together, and fighting them alone was just a stupid idea.
I got up and paced from side to side before I resumed my folding. I did that unconsciously; taking out the clothes one by one and slowly folding and arranging them had a way of soothing my troubled nerves. I folded till the last one and arranged them all in my closet just before taking a seat on my bed.
I am more relaxed now. The initial tension had released me, and lying there, in the peace of the day, there were no thoughts in my head, and I started drifting asleep until.
“Alpha, my man.” I was startled awake by the loud masculine voice that barged into my room. Although I was pissed that I was woken up from sleep, I was happy because I had missed this person. Only one person could barge into my room like that, my Beta, Ron.
“Oh, shitman, I didn't know you were sleeping.” He said and was about to retreat.
I sat up. “No, it's fine. I'm already awake. Have a seat.” I offered to adjust myself on my bed.
He sat on the blue cushion chair that was one of the many blue things in this room.
“When did you get back?” He asked. The atmosphere and mood were dull and cold and a bit tense.
I slumped back into my bed and sighed.
“Last night.”
He pouted his lips like thoughts were running through his mind.
“Oh, and why? I thought you were bringing her back. That was what you said on our last phone call.”
I rolled my eyes. When we spoke a few days ago, I told him that I wasn't going to leave her there and that I would bring her back till we had it all figured out, but here I was, without her.
“What's wrong?” He sensed that the energy in me was low and I hadn't spoken about her all morning.
I sat up and adjusted myself to face him. He looked intently as always, willing to listen to what I had to say and proffer a solution he thinks is best.
“Well, I don't even know where to begin. I showed her the truth about her parents not being her real parents, and then she panicked and got up, and then she couldn't move, but I wanted her. I trailed off and got up from my bed, then I banged my head against the wall and paced for a while before sitting. All the while, Ron was patiently watching me.
“I wanted her to walk to me, and so I took away her wheelchair, and when she tried to walk, she fell, and she blamed me, and... ugh.” I raised my head to see Ron’s mouth wide open and his face crowded with shock.
I furrowed my brows as a sign that his look confused me.
“Men you fucking tried to kill her!” He exclaimed.
Oh my, not you too.
