Chapter 54

Jason's POV

"Why did Vampires and Werewolves become strong enemies?" I asked, watching her slowly as she turned her attention to me.

"Oh, don't insinuate that, it all depends on the vampire, and the werewolf at the moment, not all vampires and werewolves are strong enemies" Sapphire replied before she could even listen to the long history of vampires and Werewolves in our continent.

"Oh, don't say that Sapphire, if two members of both creatures see themselves on the way and become friends, believe me, one would end up upsetting the other in just a matter of time, " the elderly she-wolf objected, dilating her pupils slightly to emphasize on her statement.

"Hmm, never thought to wonder why Father removed all vampires out of office, makes sense now, makes more sense, " Sapphire replied, tipping her cup with her hand.

" Well, there may be more reasons for that, but it boils down to the fact that agreements between Vampires and Werewolves do not last long." The she-wolf said.

I moved across the room sitting on the stool a few meters away from the stunning piano at the corner of the room. I knew it would be a long story so I need to relax.

"You would love to take your seat, ma'am, you would be sharing a very long story, driving back to our ancestors, back to the time when werewolves and their inner wolves were separate entities and the wolves were visible to everyone."

" I'll be your guest," she replied, moving to take a seat with Sapphire at the beer table before she continued speaking.

"You see, centuries ago, vampires and Werewolves were together in brotherhood and lived in harmony. Between themselves, they shared knowledge, inner powers.... "

"Inner powers? " Sapphire asked, obviously surprised.

" Yes, strong inner powers, that which you cannot find in this time and age again." She was already standing in front of the piano, running her hands over it. It was crafted with very fine and shining brown wood. I noticed how the legs were carved with perfection. The surface of the piano was designed and adorned with delicate inlays of gold, forming a beautiful floral pattern. This is something I would definitely purchase for the pack house, I made a quick mental note to check for some before paying attention to the old lady.

"They shared everything, even once in a certain pack they mated. Unbelievable right?"

" Yes, very unbelievable, mostly because the story is coming from you. How can we verify the authenticity of your story? " Sapphire asked. She turned to her with an amused face and I noticed that she was still on her drink. I've never seen a she wolf drink that much. I grew funnily scared that she would knock out her inner wolf with alcohol. Her business, not mine. Not mine at all.

"Sapphire, you all should know that I'm not a storyteller.... "

" Definitely, for your ability to easily persuade us is zero, but we love to hear," Sapphire said, making us all laugh lightly.

"Well, let me get back on with my story then, and believe it or not, it's history without proof but with evidence," she said, her fingers dancing across the keys. "Vampires and werewolves even fought side by side against common enemies. Indeed they were allies, strong allies." she paused, then continued speaking. It was a Steinway's pack, one of the finest pack grounds in the whole continent and beyond. Steinway's pack was known to love and adore people of different kinds, as they believed that it was the only gift given to them jointly by their respective creators; all other gifts according to them were not free, even life itself.

"But it all changed with the rise of the powerful vampire Lord, Mazuk." She paused again, " I briefly looked at the direction of the beer table and I saw Sapphire paying full attention as she held the wine bottle.

She was enjoying this.

The she-wolf continued again and I turned to her. "Mazuk, as you all have heard from classical myth, was charismatic, cunning, and ruthless. His influence ran across different vampire packs, dominating all powerful packs of his kind. The major desire that controlled him was that of dominating all supernatural creatures, including werewolves."

" Right, but that wasn't the legendary famous tale of Mazuk. He was known to be charismatic and cunning quite alright, but his major drive and desire was to unite vampires and werewolves. Legend has it that the rivalry was even before his reign," I said, interrupting the she wolf.

" Yes, as much as they painted Mazuk to look perfect, the vampire, Mazuk started the strong divide between werewolves and vampires. Mazuk had a lot of people at his side that even after he died they tried to change the story."

"Well, let's hear his story, he might be right after all, who knows?" Sapphire added.

" I'm right, I'm very sure of it. If you had been a vampire at the door when I opened it, there would surely have been a fight between us, you know." I paused, looking at the both of them expecting a response, the she-wolf nodded before she continued.

"On a fateful night, Mazuk's army, well instructed and brainwashed by his charismatic nature, attacked a werewolf pack, slaughtering many innocent lives. The werewolves, surprised at the move by their most trusted ally, were caught unawares, and slaughtered in their numbers. Kael, the alpha of the attacked werewolf pack at that time, fought bravely with his men, defending the young ones, the omegas and the vulnerable members of the pack." She ran her fingers slowly across the keyboard again, turning the sound into a mournful sound.

"Kael and Lyra, the greatest pair of Alpha and Luna in werewolf history," the elderly wolf added. I turned to her and noticed that she was staring into space.

"The werewolf pack fought bravely, but they were greatly outnumbered by the vampires, making it a very fatal war against them. Mazuk didn't stop there. After the war was won by his army, he ordered them to capture Kael and Lyra, taking them along with him to his pack." The music fades, leaving only silence.

" That's a sad tale, a really sad one. Sad especially to the werewolf community, sad enough to ignite such a level of hatred for Vampires." Sapphire concluded.
