Chapter 36
Sapphire's pov
“I'm okay, I'm not going to leave you,” I hear as I wake up. My body feels numb and I can't move my legs for the first two minutes of being awake. I just lay there and look around the place dumbly.
“Future Luna?” A nurse calls out to me. Now my eyes are opening better and I can see that I am in a hospital. At least I am not dead or seeing the cruel moon goddess again.
She runs out and the person whose voice I heard sits next to me on the bed. There are tears in his eyes and he is looking into mine. My heart freezes and melts at the same time. I don't know how he does that but he is doing it. Making me feel all kinds of ways. I am happy I get to see him again. Who was I leaving him for?
I smiled when his hand slowly brushed my hair to the side and stroked my chin gently. The familiarity of those big palms that I feel safe in, the warmth and homelike feeling it brings to me. I like it. Suddenly my wolf leaps and I'm distracted.
I looked towards the door and there he was, coming into the room– Jason. Leo stops stroking my cheeks when his eyes find what my eyes was staring at. He clenches his jaw and gets up to leave but I hold his hand back and blink slowly, signifying that I wanted him to be here.
They both exchanged knowing looks and Jason knelt next to my bed on the side across where Leo sat.
“How do you feel now?” He asks to avoid eye contact with me.
“I'm well.” I nod and turn to face him properly. It was then I saw my mother in the other bed, laying down visibly weakened and pale.
Strength surged through me as I screamed out, “mother!” I tried to get up but I couldn't. And in the heat of the moment, with all the tension building up in me, I began to cry.
Leo pulled me into his arms before Jason could get up to do it. I wept and sniffed in his familiar scent for comfort. He had a way of doing it, comforting me every single time. I could feel Jason's death stares and my wolf also alerted me of them but I didn't care. He could kill himself for all I cared.
I looked up at Leo, “why is my mother there?” He gnashed his teeth and turned his eyes away from me.
I sat up and turned his face back to me forcefully. “Answer me Leo, I command you.”
He kept still. Then shook his head to release the tension and started.
“She used her energy to save you.” I was confused. I squeezed my brows and pouted my lips to show my confusion.
“What?” I ask.
“You are something else. Something more blessed and pronounced prominent by the moon goddess. You are something called an elemental.”
The words rang in my head again. They made sense, it all made sense now. The power that the moon goddess had promised, this was it. The power I got for standing with Enya through her suffering.
I got up enthusiastically and ran to her. Both men followed after me. Reaching her bed, I sat by her side and let the tears drop. I was in a very confused state. I didn't know whether to be happy or sad about my new powers, I didn't know how to explain that I had seen the moon goddess and she had treated me cruelly. I didn't know how to talk about my feelings for Jason because I didn't even know what they were. I couldn't do anything so as I wept, it wasn't because of my mother. It was because I was overwhelmed.
“Pumpkin,” I heard dad's bass voice at the door. I turned and locked eyes with him. We both were in pain. We could read the emotion in both our eyes.
“Dad,” I called as I tried to stand up to give him a hug. Instead, I fell down. I tried to get up but I couldn't. The realization hit and it hit hard. Was this as a result of the lightning strokes?
“Dad!!” I yelled, “I can't use my legs,” I wept. He looked at me with pity as Jason picked me up. My wolf danced around when her mate touched her but that was because she could use her legs. I couldn't use mine so I could l care less about who was touching me at the moment. He placed me on the bed and went out.
When he walked out of the door, every other thought left my mind, and now I'm wondering about what was going on in his mind.
…………………………………………………
“Your mother comes from a generation of ‘special wolves’”. Dad was taking me around, trying to explain the history of how I got myself here and why mum was on the bed. I had told him what happened with the moon goddess and he was also as confused as I was. He said that my mother was the best one to answer my questions and I agreed with him.
He pushed my wheelchair towards the history section of the library. We came here to search for books that could help us learn more about elementals.
“They come once in many lifetimes and they're blessed with extra non wolf powers. They know how to control magic and use it to their benefit, making it possible for them to rule their fellow wolves.” I read a line outloud.
“I'll be at the next shelf checking for anything useful.”
I wheeled my chair to another shelf and then got dragged into a corner. I screamed but got gagged by the person's hand.
“Shuuu,” he said.
“I have something to tell you, something that could help.”
