Chapter 42

Sapphire's pov

I stood staring at the book. I hated my parents so much at this moment. Did they really think that I didn't remember and I was foolish enough to buy their dream story? They were really hiding something from me and it was something big. I began to pace around, what was this about? How long have they been hiding it? It stressed me so much and my mind was unsettled.

I looked at the book, wondering if I should pick it up or not but then I decided to leave it there. I had lost my memory, that was their belief and it had to stay that way.

I walked back to the pack house in a thoughtful mood. How was I going to figure this out? I decided that I would resume work and with the help of colleagues, trace their secret. As it was, it had been a while since I did anything fun. I had become a boring weeping baby. The last two weeks had been so hard on me.

I closed the door of my room and locked it behind me. Hurrying to my bed, I picked up my phone from under my pillow and started dialing Sebastian's number.

He picked up almost immediately as always.

“Wagwan Sissy,” he called playfully and I chuckled. Being the only children, Sebastian and I grew close over the years. I was two years older than him so the age difference didn't really matter. And since he was the calm and rational thinking one, he did most of the advising.

“A whole lot.” I replied. We were never the duo to keep things away from each other. Each and every life decision was discussed amongst ourselves first. That's how much we loved each other. But now, as I was on the brinks of telling him the truth, I fidgeted and couldn't get myself to do so. These were no ordinary people we would be talking about, they were our parents. The one who trained us to fight, to lead, the people we always looked up to for everything and anything, and here we were, as the bad guys in the story.

“Start talking then,” he said enthusiastically and showing interest in what we had to say.

“Well… you know how we never lie to each other?” I asked, laying the ground for the conversation.

“Yeah” he answered.

“Well, I'll have to keep this till you come home. It's something we can't discuss over the phone.”

He was silent. Then he cleared his throat and continued.

“Okay then. I'll be home by the weekend so we can talk. I hope you're fine though?” He asked, concerned. I kept my voice from shaking.

“Yes I am. What's going on? How're you doing? What's your tour like?” I asked switching the topic immediately.

“Well, I'm fine. I'm doing well. The tour is going great actually and I'm having lots of fun meeting other future Alpha's…” He had so much to say and I listened as he went on talking about all the fun things he did and places he visited and also about the things he learnt.

A knock on my door startled me. I looked up and the person kept on knocking, like it was an emergency.

“Who's about to break your door?” Sebastian asked.

The knock was so loud that he could hear it from his end.

“I'll check it. Stay on the call and listen.”

“Stay safe, be careful.”

“Yeah.” Enya was alerted. She was on guard for shifting and would stop at nothing to protect me; she said that herself.

I walked slowly to the door, grabbing a sword from behind my door. I was suspecting a rogue attack on the pack but on opening the door, I saw the exact opposite of danger, my comfort place.

“Leo,” I let out the breath I was holding. I slapped him playfully on his back and led him inside. He didn't speak, rather he closed the door and locked it.

“Seb, it's Leo.” I yelled out and let myself fall on the bed and bounce.

“Hey Leo, are you on drugs or something? Why were you knocking like that?” He teased him.

“Yeah I'm definitely high on something, I got it from your dealer.” They both laughed. Boys had the weirdest jokes.

“What have you been up to?” He asked Leo.

“Just the usual pack politics and social tussle.” He said weakly, lacking the enthusiasm he earlier had.

“Oh, that's chill.” Leo answered walking to my drawer to pick up snacks.

“Uhhm, I think I'll leave you guys so you can talk properly. I'll text you later, we still have alot to talk about .” He said and hung up. I stared at the screen for a while before Leo's voice broke me from my thoughts.

“When is he coming home?” He asked.

“This weekend.” I faced him. He had a bag of chips in his hand now and was already munching it.

I looked at him, he was focused on the chips so he didn't look back at me. He must not be aware of the happenings of yesterday.

“What?” He asked when he caught me staring, “want some chips?” he asked.

I shook my head swiftly, “no, no, I'm good”.

“You sure?” He asked inquisitively.

I nodded even more, “yeah.”

He moved to meet me on the bed and gave me another bag of chips.

“You never reject chips, what's wrong?”

I smiled from ear to ear. It was a beautiful thing to feel loved by someone and understood. I looked at him, deep into his eyes and I couldn't lie to him.

“There's something I have to ask you.”

“Go on.” I was nervous, my hands shaking and my mouth too dry to utter the next words. The last two weeks had made me a shadow of my brave and bold self.

I got up for some water and after gulping it down my throat, turned to him.

“Where were you yesterday? Where you in the pack house?”

“Yes,” he answered emotionlessly. He seemed not to be bothered by anything at all and kept eating his chips.

“Am I an elemental?”

Now he was bothered, he was about to speak when someone opened the door and stormed into my room.

“What are you doing here?”
