CHAPTER 107
Xander's thin lips parted slightly as he spoke coldly, with a hint of provocation and mockery. “Are you afraid of sleeping with me, Arianna?”
Arianna’s footsteps halted all of a sudden.
She knew that it was clearly his way of using reverse psychology, but those words sounded particularly…harsh.
“Forget about it then, if you’re afraid,” Xander continued in a leisurely manner.
“Don’t forget to close the door on your way out.”
Arianna clenched her hands into fists as her arms hung by her body, and a fire began burning in the depths of her eyes.
He really had intimate knowledge of how to push her buttons.
Arianna raised her leg, but instead of going out, she pivoted on her toes and walked back. Heading straight to the bed, she raised her chin and asked, “Why would I be afraid!”
It wasn't as if she had never slept there before. The bed was huge, so there was no big deal!
Arianna did as Xander had done before and switched off all the lights in the bedroom with a snap. The room immediately plunged into darkness. She pulled the blanket and lay down at once.
In the darkness, Xander’s gaze slowly landed on her petite figure on the bed, his lips curling into a slight grin.
About a minute later, Arianna heard Xander taking off his jacket, followed by his footsteps approaching the bed and the sound of the blanket being lifted.
She then felt the mattress sink on the other side, signaling that he had laid down.
Although her statements had been quite stubborn earlier, she actually felt nervous and somewhat regretful now that Xander was on the bed.
If Xander really intended to do anything funny, she would definitely lose out given the significant difference in their strength.
Arianna turned her back to him but remained vigilant. On the off-chance that Xander tried something, she would be ready to fight back immediately.
Amazingly, Xander really did seem to purely want to sleep. He lay there quietly, saying nothing else and making no additional movements.
Arianna found it to be a little strange.
Xander had deliberately provoked her just to have her accompany him in bed and make it easier for her to take care of him?
Although she could bear with it for some time, curiosity eventually got the better of her. She turned around at the slowest of speeds and did so very carefully.
She opened her eyes slightly and glanced at Xander, who was sleeping on the other end.
He was lying there properly and nothing seemed to be amiss. His breathing was stable too, and he really did seem to be sleeping.
Arianna let out a sigh of relief and relaxed her guard as well. Her day had been very exhausting from the start, and as soon as her body unwound, she was overwhelmed with fatigue. Her eyelids grew heavy, and she soon slipped into a deep sleep.
After some time, her breathing became more steady, and Xander—who had been asleep initially—opened his eyes.
He moved gently and silently as he shifted his body towards Arianna. Despite the darkness enveloping the room, his gaze found her face effortlessly.
In the dimness, he could discern her eyebrows, delicate nose, soft lips, and graceful chin.
Every feature of hers was flawless, perfectly aligned. She was so beautiful.
He had encountered many captivating women in his life, yet for some inexplicable reason, Arianna was the only one who held him spellbound. Despite everything she had done, he couldn't seem to let her go.
Xander extended his arm slowly, drawing Arianna into an embrace. Instead of resisting, she nestled comfortably against him, instinctively finding a snug position. Her hands and legs rested against him, reciprocating the embrace with a gentle hug, a faint smile of contentment playing on her lips.
Their bodies melded seamlessly together, reminiscent of the countless embraces they had shared in the past.
Xander gazed at the woman sleeping peacefully in his arms. As he held her, he felt a profound sense of completeness, as if the void that had grown over the past two years was gradually being filled.
Arianna's cooking skills were questionable, her attempt at coffee was overwhelmingly sweet, and she sometimes playfully elbowed him when helping him up, clearly teasing him. Despite her mischievous intentions, she often found ways to challenge him and evoke his emotions...
Xander could easily list all the things about her that annoyed him, but none of that mattered when compared to the warmth of her unknowing embrace.
She had woven herself into his heart like a spell. Despite his efforts to push her away, she effortlessly found her way back.
He closed his eyes, a bittersweet smile tugging at his lips.
'Looks like you've fallen for her all over again, Xander.'
