CHAPTER 39
Piper and her best friend, Sheena Williams, emerged from the soothing hot spring bath, towels wrapped snugly around their bodies. They made their way to the dessert area, savoring the fragrant tea while chatting leisurely.
This spa was a favorite haunt of wealthy socialites, and the ladies seated around them were all members of the upper echelon.
In the past, whenever these women saw Piper, they would shower her with compliments and flattery. Her close relationship with Xander had everyone speculating that she was destined to enter the King family and become Madam King.
However, ever since the incident at the jewelry shop, where Xander publicly left Piper, the story had quickly spread through their social circle. Now, the looks directed at her were no longer admiring but filled with amusement and scorn.
A few of the socialites didn’t even bother to hide their disdain. One of them remarked loudly,
"Isn't that Piper? I heard Xander’s no longer interested in her. I really thought she was on her way to becoming Mrs Xander King."
The comment hung in the air, drawing smirks and murmurs from the surrounding tables. Piper felt the sting of their mockery, each word like a sharp barb piercing her composure.
The next socialite replied,
“She’s always been so arrogant just because she had Xander by her side. She really thinks she’s above everyone.”
Of course, Piper had never been provoked this way, and she immediately stood up, rushing toward the two socialites. She roared,
“Why don’t you say it to my face! Trust me, I’ll tear you apart!”
The socialite snorted.
“Piper, do you think we’re still afraid of you now that you don’t have Xander?”
Piper was furious.
“Xander and I are still together. You’re all just jealous!”
At her declaration, the crowd burst into laughter. The laughter rippled through the room, amplifying the humiliation Piper felt.
Seeing everyone laughing at her, Piper’s eyes turned bloodshot. Her fists clenched, and without hesitation, she lunged toward the socialites, ready to teach them a lesson.
However, Sheena hurried over and grabbed her arm, stopping her.
“Piper, don’t!” Sheena urged, her voice filled with concern.
“They’re not worth it. Let’s just go.”
Piper struggled against her friend’s grip, her rage bubbling over. Sheena tightened her hold, pulling Piper back with all her strength.
“Think about it, Piper. They want to see you lose control. Don’t give them the satisfaction.”
Despite her fury, Sheena’s words slowly sank in. Piper took a deep breath, forcing herself to calm down. The socialites continued to smirk, clearly enjoying the spectacle.
“We’ll see who’s laughing last,” Piper muttered under her breath, glaring at the women who had dared to mock her.
Then, with Sheena by her side, she walked away from the scene, her back straight and her head held high, determined not to let them see how much their words had hurt her.
“Piper, forget it. There are too many of them, and we won’t win.”
Piper did not lay a finger on the two socialites. Instead, she turned around and ruthlessly slapped Sheena, cursing,
“You useless piece of trash!”
A red mark quickly appeared on Sheena’s porcelain cheek. Sheena covered her face, not saying another word.
Piper didn’t spare her another glance and stormed toward the changing room. She flung open the wardrobe and grabbed her phone, dialing Xander’s number.
She wanted those who ridiculed her to know that she and Xander were still on good terms. She wanted Xander to pick her up personally and show them all.
Piper wanted to embarrass them!
However, no one picked up her calls. Piper was so angry that she tossed her phone to the ground.
Since Arianna returned, nothing had gone well for Piper. Moreover, Xander had not been picking up her calls for the past few days. If this went on, that woman would surely seduce Xander away from her!
“What a shameless sl*t!”
Sheena, who followed Piper, noticed what happened. She adjusted her emotions and approached Piper, saying softly,
“Piper, I have a plan to make Xander return to your side.”
Piper looked at her.
Sheena showed a crafty smile. “And it will also be the downfall of Arianna, the woman you despise!”
