CHAPTER 159

Xander seemed to sense Arianna’s gaze and looked up from his work.

Arianna was caught off guard, and before she could react, their eyes met. Xander’s lips curled into a slight smile.

In his deep voice, Xander commanded,

“Come here.”

“Is something wrong?” Arianna instinctively tensed.

“Come. Here,” Xander repeated, his tone firm and unyielding.

Arianna had no intention of provoking Xander unnecessarily—she wasn’t one to invite trouble.

After a brief hesitation, Arianna took a few steps toward the sofa. When she was just a step away, she stopped and asked, “What’s the matter?”

Xander gave her a sidelong glance, then tilted his head toward the space beside him and said, “Sit down.”

Arianna frowned, unsure of Xander’s intentions. She took a seat, maintaining a respectful distance.

“You can look all you want,” Xander said casually, “but it’s better if you keep quiet. Anything you say might affect me.”

Arianna was taken aback and confused by Xander’s words. It took her a moment to piece together what he meant.

She had been staring at him in confusion, but Xander seemed to think she was deliberately watching him. Was this his way of making her sit close just to give her a better view of him?

“You! I don’t want to look at you!” Arianna’s face flushed red, not from embarrassment, but from irritation.

Xander raised an eyebrow slightly. “This isn’t the first time you’ve done this.”
Was he referring to the times she had looked at him the previous night?

It was indeed a major misunderstanding…

“I…” Arianna started to explain, but struggled to find the right words. Her mouth moved as if to say something several times, but all she managed to utter was, “The point is, I don’t want to look at you!”

With that, she quickly stood up, hurried to the bed, and sat down. To avoid meeting Xander’s gaze, she turned away, facing the back of the bed.

The room was very quiet, and she thought she might have heard a soft chuckle from behind her… or maybe not.

Arianna gritted her teeth in frustration.

That narcissistic jerk really thought he was something special! Who would want to look at him? Did he really believe he was that attractive?

Then again, if she had fallen for him at first sight, it must mean he had some appeal...

She remembered how she used to gaze at him dreamily when they were in love before.

As Arianna reflected on the past, she felt a wave of unease. Her anger grew, and she directed it at herself for being so foolish. It was Xander’s good looks that had initially drawn her in, and without them, she never would have been interested, let alone fallen in love. Everything that followed would never have happened...

When the doctor arrived after ten o’clock, he was taken aback to find a distinguished man in the room.

The doctor was accustomed to seeing Arianna alone, so the presence of such a charismatic figure caught him off guard. He couldn’t help but take a second look at the man.

The man appeared strikingly familiar—wasn’t he Xander, the CEO of the King Group?

The doctor had known Arianna for a long time, but he hadn’t anticipated her connections being so influential. Not only had she secured the services of a renowned specialist, Saint John, for her brother, but she had also managed to have Xander in the ward as a caregiver. He was impressed by her connections and influence!

Given this, the doctor felt less concerned about Charlie’s condition.

After completing the routine check-up, the doctor addressed Arianna. “Ms. Johnson, there are a few more things I need to discuss with you. Please come to my office.”

“Alright,” Arianna replied.

She followed the doctor out of the ward.

Five minutes later, the ward door opened.

Xander expected Arianna to return, but instead, the nurse he had seen the night before walked in.

The nurse was momentarily taken aback upon seeing Xander and paused in her tracks. The memory of his stern expression from the previous night still unsettled her.

Xander’s dark eyes locked onto her, and he remained silent.

The nurse swallowed nervously and quickly explained, “Sir, I’m here to clean Charlie’s body.”

“Mm,” Xander responded briefly, then turned his attention back to the document he was reading.

Relieved, the nurse moved to enter the room, but Xander’s gaze shifted back to her.

“I’ll handle it,” he said.

“What?” The nurse thought she might have misunderstood.

Xander immediately stood up, expertly unbuttoned his cuffs, rolled up his sleeves, and moved towards the bathroom.

He returned with a basin of warm water, placed it on the bedside table, and began soaking and wringing out a towel. He then proceeded to gently wipe Charlie’s body.

The nurse stepped forward instinctively, saying, “Sir, it’s better if I handle this. Do you…really know how to…”

Before she could finish, she watched Xander’s skilled movements and precise control. His technique was at least on par with a professional nurse’s.

The nurse’s eyes widened in astonishment, and it took her a moment to regain her composure. She couldn’t help but ask, “Sir, how are you so skilled? Have you cared for someone before?”

Xander didn’t reply immediately, focusing intently on his task.

Just as the nurse thought he wouldn’t respond, Xander’s deep voice answered, “Yes, I have cared for someone before.”

Curious about who might have been attended to by such a distinguished person, the nurse asked,

“Who was it?”
