CHAPTER 35
Seeing that Arianna had lost a lot of weight, Grandma King hurriedly said,
“Ari, I’ll get Aunt Julia to prepare some delicious food to help you regain your strength!”
“Grandma King, there’s no need…”
But before Arianna could finish her sentence, Grandma King was already walking away, muttering to herself about the menu for dinner.
Arianna watched her grandmother leave energetically and couldn't help but laugh. Despite being in her seventies, Grandma King had the vitality of someone much younger.
At eight o’clock in the evening, Arianna made her way downstairs to find that Aunt Julia had prepared a table full of dishes, all made from top-notch, nutritious ingredients.
The food looked incredibly appetizing and smelled divine, filling the air with a mouth-watering aroma.
After being sick for a few days and only being able to eat liquid meals, Arianna was already bored of her bland diet. However, now that she was standing in front of the spread of delicacies, she unconsciously gulped.
It seemed that she would be having a great meal that night.
Suddenly, she heard footsteps approaching. She turned her head and met a pair of dark eyes.
Arianna was stunned.
Xander was home?
Since Grandma King had beaten him, Arianna had not seen Xander again. She had even thought he wouldn't return.
Perhaps Grandma King had forced him to come back. After all, she still had yet to give up and had been nagging Arianna, urging her to reconsider.
Every time Arianna saw Xander, trouble seemed to follow. Hence, she frowned and took a step back, creating distance between them.
Otherwise, Xander would think she was manipulating Grandma King to pull a trick on him again.
Xander noticed every move she made, and his eyes instantly darkened. Even the temperature around them seemed to drop.
This woman! Was she in a hurry to make a clean break with him?
Arianna watched as his expression turned gloomy, and she blinked her eyes, puzzled.
She had already voluntarily moved away from him, yet he was still unsatisfied?
Oh. That was right… She had forgotten how much Xander despised her. In his eyes, her existence was probably a mistake… Hence, whatever she did would also be wrong.
Arianna used to care deeply for him. Each look in his eyes and each word he said, she would ponder upon them for a long time.
She would even say things he liked to hear, wear clothes that he preferred seeing her in… Everything she did was for him!
Now, whether he was angry or not had nothing to do with her!
“Arianna, the meal is ready.” Aunt Julie walked over, breaking the strange tension between them.
“Grandma King wants you two to join her.”
Xander cast a cold glance at Arianna, then walked toward the dining hall in big strides.
Arianna then flashed a small smile at Aunt Julie, following Xander.
Grandma King was sitting at the main seat. Then, Xander pulled the chair on her left side, and he sat.
Nonetheless, Arianna also knowingly avoided the seat beside Xander and chose to sit on the other side.
As she pulled out her chair and sat down, Arianna noticed Xander's handsome face became even unfriendlier. The look in his eyes felt like daggers piercing through her.
Arianna was aware that Xander did not want to see her, and he was even more unwilling to have a meal with her. However, Arianna felt the same for him too!
Seeing his grumpy face, all the delicious food instantly became unappetizing!
Nevertheless, she still had to respect Grandma King. After all, Grandma King not only saved her, but she also took care of her for the past few days.
Grandma King peeped at the aloof Xander on her left, and then she glanced at the quiet Arianna. She couldn't help but secretly sigh.
They used to be such a loving couple, and everyone was envious of their love, yet they had nothing to talk about now.
Grandma King did not know what happened between them that made them this way, but she did not want to look into it. After all, people must live in the moment.
Soon, she cleared her throat and said,
“Xander, Arianna, before we start our dinner, I’d like to let you know something!”
