CHAPTER 358

After the initial surprise, Arianna couldn’t help but smile and nod.

“I’d be honoured. Thank you.”

“Let’s head to my office,” Elizabeth replied, not sparing Harmony another glance. Without saying another word, she turned and made her way back into Starlight TV’s building.

Arianna, too, chose not to look back at Harmony. She quickly straightened her clothes and followed Elizabeth’s lead.

Harmony stood frozen, watching them walk away. Anger and frustration bubbled inside her as her vision blurred. Her face reddened, and her body shook with rage.

She wanted to be the anchor that Elizabeth trusted most. She had been the one expected to be treated with such respect, to be invited for tea first. But now, Arianna had stolen that opportunity from her.

Why?

Why does Arianna always take everything I want?

That woman!

Elizabeth’s office was located on the highest floor of Starlight TV, where she held the position of the company’s top anchor, second only to the general manager. Her workspace occupied one side of the top floor, while the general manager’s was on the opposite.

Naturally, she had her private elevator.

She led Arianna to the elevator and made her way up, heading directly to her office.

The large office space was eerily quiet, with only a few scattered employees and none at their desks. It was a surprising sight for Arianna, especially during working hours. She couldn’t help but wonder why the office was so empty.

As they entered the office, Elizabeth gestured to a chair. “Make yourself comfortable.”

Arianna nodded and made her way to the sofa, sitting down with a sense of ease. She glanced around the room, taking in the luxurious furnishings. A large bookcase lined one wall, filled with books of all kinds, each showing signs of having been well-read.

Her favourite anchor certainly had impeccable taste.

Arianna couldn’t help but feel a bit of that fangirl excitement bubbling up as she sat in front of her idol, though she had managed to calm herself earlier. Now, however, the nervousness crept back.

She took a quiet breath, steadying herself before it could show.

Elizabeth returned to the room with the necessary tea-making equipment and sat across from Arianna. With practised hands, she began preparing the tea, carefully boiling the water, steeping the leaves, and pouring the fragrant brew into the cups.

The aroma quickly filled the air.

Elizabeth placed a cup of tea in front of Arianna. “Give it a try.”

“Thank you.” Arianna took the cup in both hands, blowing gently on the hot liquid before taking a sip. The rich flavour instantly enveloped her senses, leaving a satisfying aftertaste.

“It’s wonderful—both in aroma and taste,” she praised earnestly.

Elizabeth took a sip of her tea, a small smile appearing on her lips. “I’m glad you like it.”

Arianna took another sip, then looked up at Elizabeth with a direct gaze.

“I have to ask… Why did you help me earlier, Ms. Goldman?”

Based on Elizabeth’s character, it seemed that standing up for justice would be her most natural response.

However, Elizabeth didn’t appear taken aback by Arianna’s question. She answered coolly,

“I wasn’t exactly helping you. I just… chose not to interfere.”

In their line of work, people in the media had to have a set of principles and a moral compass that guided them.

Harmony had resorted to manipulative tactics, twisting the public’s perception to serve her selfish agenda. She’d brought innocent people into her schemes, all while showing no regard for the law or morality.

People like her were utterly despicable.

At the end of the day, Harmony was little more than a rat hiding behind others. By using others to do her bidding, she managed to avoid any real consequences, untouchable in the eyes of the law. That left one question: why shouldn’t Arianna be allowed to deliver her form of justice?

“I know people think of me as stern and unyielding,” Elizabeth continued, her tone matter-of-fact,

“but I was far more ruthless than you might be right now, thirty years ago.” She spoke frankly, sharing a part of herself with Arianna that few others had seen.

Those words left Arianna stunned. She had never imagined that Elizabeth had once been a fiery, passionate young woman herself…

The woman Arianna admired was truly extraordinary.

Elizabeth refilled Arianna’s cup with tea and studied her closely.

“There was something else you planned to do when you came to Starlight TV today, wasn’t there? Apart from dealing with Harmony, of course.”

Her words came across more like a statement than a question!

Arianna wasn’t surprised by Elizabeth’s remark. Given Elizabeth’s impressive career, it was clear that her ability to judge both people and situations was sharp and reliable.

Arianna nodded, her expression resolute.

"Yes, I plan to resign."

She had joined Starlight TV with high hopes, but the reality had left her disappointed time and again. Nothing aligned with her values—whether it was her department head, her colleagues, or the way the station handled issues.

To Arianna, being an anchor was more than just a job—it was a dream. But if she stayed, she would either conform to the toxic environment or face the same challenges again in the future.

It seemed better to leave than to remain in a place that no longer supported her aspirations.
