CHAPTER 341

When they arrived at Haven Medical Facility, Ronald wasted no time forcefully escorting Arianna into the building and having her admitted as a patient. He made specific arrangements to place her in a ward right next to the girl’s.

As Arianna discreetly listened in on conversations, she finally learned that the girl’s name was Renee Levy.

However, reaching Renee proved impossible. The bodyguard assigned to her kept a watchful eye, never leaving his post outside her door.

Time was slipping away, and before Arianna realized it, the afternoon was already upon her.

She sat by her window, staring at the tightly shut door to Renee’s ward. Frustration bubbled within her as she chewed her nails, wracking her brain for a solution.

Suddenly, her gaze landed on a specific item in her room, and inspiration struck. A sly smile curved her lips as a plan began to form.

Arianna hurried over to her backpack and pulled out a small, thumb-sized plastic tube she had brought along. Clutching it tightly in her hand, she stepped back into the hallway.

Moments later, a nurse arrived with a meal delivery cart and knocked on her door.

“Mrs. King, I’ve brought your lunch.”

“Thanks,” Arianna called back quickly.

“No need to come in. I’ll grab it myself.”

She opened the door and glanced at the cart. Each tray was clearly labelled with the corresponding room number, and every meal was carefully prepared to suit the dietary needs of the patients.

Her eyes landed on two trays labelled for room 502—Renee’s ward. One was a customized nutritional meal, undoubtedly meant for Renee, and the other was a standard meal likely intended for the bodyguard.

The nurse handed over Arianna’s lunch with a polite smile.

“Here you go, Mrs. King.”

“Thank you,” Arianna replied, her mind already racing with what she would do next.

Arianna reached out to take the tray, but just as she was about to grab it, she deliberately loosened her grip. The tray slipped from her hands and crashed to the floor, scattering food everywhere.

She gasped softly, covering her mouth with her hand, and immediately put on an apologetic expression.

“Oh no, I’m so sorry! I didn’t hold it properly.”

The nurse didn’t seem fazed by the incident. She had encountered plenty of patients who were either careless or intentionally difficult, and this seemed no different.

With a calm demeanour, she offered a polite smile and said,

“It’s alright, Mrs. King. Please don’t worry about it. Just head back to your room. I’ll bring you another tray shortly.”

Arianna knelt quickly, guilt etched on her face.

“No, please let me help clean this up. I feel terrible about it.”

The nurse shook her head firmly. Patients were always the priority, and she couldn’t allow Arianna to handle the mess herself.

“There’s no need for that, Mrs. King,” she said gently.

“I’ll call for the janitor to take care of it. You can go back and wait for your meal.”

Arianna hesitated for a moment before reluctantly nodding, stepping back with a sheepish expression. But in her mind, her plan was falling into place.

“No, I insist. I’m a bit of a clean freak, and if I don’t clean it up right now, it’s going to bother me all day,” Arianna said firmly, already crouching down to gather the mess.

“Why don’t you go ahead and deliver the rest of the lunches? I’ll manage here.”

The nurse hesitated, visibly torn.

“Mrs. King, you really shouldn’t trouble yourself with this. You’re a patient, and if my supervisor finds out you were cleaning, I’ll be in serious trouble.”

Arianna paused, looking up with a conflicted expression before sighing as if conceding.

“Alright, I wouldn’t want to get you into trouble.” She stood up slowly, dusting off her hands.

“But you’d better hurry before anyone else notices this mess.”

The nurse gave her a grateful smile and quickly knelt to clean the scattered food.

“Thank you, Mrs. King. I’ll handle this.”

While the nurse busied herself with the mess, Arianna took a subtle glance around to ensure the hallway was still empty. Her hand dipped into her pocket, retrieving the tiny plastic tube. With precise movements, she uncapped it and carefully let a few drops of the clear liquid fall into the bodyguard’s meal tray.

The nurse worked quickly, and within moments, the floor was spotless again. She stood up, brushing off her knees.

“All set, Mrs. King. I’ll bring you a fresh tray shortly.”

“Thank you,” Arianna said warmly, her face a mask of sincerity. Inside, she felt a surge of satisfaction as the first step of her plan unfolded.

Arianna pulled her hand back just a fraction of a second before the nurse and acted completely nonchalant, as though nothing had occurred.

The nurse gave her a polite smile and said,

“Mrs. King, I’ll deliver the other meals to the other wards first and then come back with a replacement meal for you. Please bear with me for just a moment.”

“Alright,” Arianna replied, her tone friendly and understanding.

“Take your time.”

As soon as the nurse made her way toward room 502 to deliver another meal, Arianna allowed a small smirk to dance across her lips.

She had come well-prepared. Everything in her bag was carefully chosen and of the highest quality, but there were two particular items that stood out.

The first was a tiny, needle-sized anesthetic—small but potent. It was an invaluable tool in moments of desperation, but it was rare and precious, and she’d brought only a few from what little supply she had left.

The second item was far more insidious: a powerful laxative, commonly known as "the runs." Just a single drop would be enough to induce intense gastroenteritis in anyone, no matter how strong or healthy. Its effects were swift, and within half an hour, even the most resilient individuals would be incapacitated.

The nurse returned with Arianna’s replacement meal not long after. Arianna took it without hesitation and began eating, her attention flickering toward the clock as she watched time tick by.
