CHAPTER 355
Arianna closed GossipNet and opened WhatsApp. She noticed a red dot in her contacts, signaling a new message and a friend request.
It was from Renee: \[Hey, Arianna. It’s Renee.\]
Renee had contacted her family the day before to arrange for her pickup.
Arianna quickly approved the request.
Renee followed up with a second message: \[Thank you for saving me, Arianna. Thank you for bringing justice to my life.\]
Arianna smiled softly as she typed her reply: \[I accept your thanks. You have a fresh start ahead of you. Take care of yourself.\]
\[I will. Both you and fate gave me a second chance, and I’ll make sure to honor it.\]
Arianna felt a sense of peace, knowing that Renee, still so young, had a bright future to look forward to.
Then Renee sent another message: \[Arianna, I get so envious when I see how loving you and Xander are. I hope you both will always be happy, have many children, and grow old together!\]
Arianna felt a warmth spread through her at the well wishes.
\[Thank you for your kind words. By the way, do you and Professor Cornwell have any plans for the future?\]
Renee’s response took longer than usual, leaving Arianna feeling a slight knot of worry. Just as she was about to type another message, Renee’s reply appeared on her screen.
\[Hey Arianna, things have changed, even though we haven't. We can’t go back to how things were before. There are too many things, like our families, and I can’t expect him to fully separate from his. And honestly, I can’t forget the pain I’ve endured. Things will never be the same for us.\]
\[When the professor exposed his family's wrongdoings to me, it felt like a form of closure, a final goodbye. That was the last thing he could do for me.\]
\[Maybe this is for the best, for both of us.\]
Arianna’s heart sank as she read the message, but she couldn’t help but understand. Some loves weren’t meant to last, and timing was everything.
Renee was given a second chance at life, but love, for her, was no longer a part of that future. Arianna couldn’t help but think of her own life with Xander. She was lucky, truly fortunate, to have been given another chance with him.
She typed back: \[Whatever you decide, I’m here for you. I support you, always.\]
\[Thank you, Arianna. I’m going to focus on my studies again. I’ll work hard to make a meaningful contribution to society, just like you do.\]
..................
Once the chicken soup had finished cooking, Arianna packed it into a container and headed to the hospital.
When she arrived, she was relieved to find that Ronald seemed to be in much better spirits than the day before. She raised the bed slightly, set up a small tray, and carefully poured the soup into a bowl.
With a gentle smile, she asked, “Would you like me to feed you, Ronald?”
Ronald hesitated, his cheeks tinged with embarrassment. “Isn’t that a bit much?”
“You’ve done so much for me already,” Arianna replied.
“Let me do this for you, at least.”
Ronald gave her a playful, sheepish grin.
“I suppose I have no choice then.”
The real reason he accepted, of course, was that his hands still weren’t strong enough to manage on his own, and he didn’t want to risk spilling the soup Arianna had made with such care.
Arianna slowly fed him, holding the spoon gently, when suddenly, the phone on the bedside table rang.
Ronald glanced at it and said, “Arianna, could you grab my phone for me?”
“Of course,” she said, setting the bowl aside, picking up the phone, and handing it to him.
As Ronald lowered his head to read the message, Arianna’s gaze flickered to his phone, and a thought suddenly struck her. She asked,
“Ronald, did you lose your phone a while back?”
Ronald looked up, surprised, and after replying to the message, he said,
“How did you know? I did lose it, but… how?”
Arianna didn’t answer immediately, pushing further,
“Was it on the day of the emergency meeting?”
Ronald’s eyes widened in shock. “Wait, you knew that too? How is that possible?” he asked, clearly taken aback.
Arianna didn’t explain right away, but her suspicions were confirmed. It had indeed been that day when Ronald realized his phone was missing.
Her deduction was correct. The way she had been able to overhear details of the meeting wasn’t by chance. The person responsible was becoming clearer.
Arianna had suspected Harmony’s involvement, but she hadn’t anticipated just how ruthless Harmony could be. By getting someone else to do the dirty work, Harmony could remain uninvolved—if the plan succeeded, she would reap the rewards, and if it failed, her hands would stay clean.
Things rarely came easily—or without consequences.
Arianna's hands tightened into fists, her expression darkening as a cold fury filled her eyes. She turned to Ronald and spoke with determination,
“There’s something I need to take care of. I’ll be back soon.”
Without waiting for a response, she turned and walked briskly toward the door.
Ronald watched her leave, stunned by her sudden departure. He called out after her,
“Where are you going in such a hurry, Mrs King?”
Without turning back, Arianna answered, her voice firm,
“To get my revenge.”
